SPARTANS STAY PERFECT AT HOME

Conneaut, OH- Hoping to continue their forward momentum, the Conneaut Spartans showcased their prowess on the court, securing a commanding victory against the Northwestern Wildcats. The final scoreboard told the tale of a well-fought battle, with the Spartans emerging victorious with a final score of 70-55.

Quarter Breakdown

The game kicked off with a competitive first quarter, with Conneaut putting up 11 points against Northwestern’s 14. The intensity only escalated from there, with the Spartans taking control and outscoring their opponents in each subsequent quarter. The second quarter saw 16 points for Conneaut compared to Northwestern’s 13. The trend continued in the third quarter, where Conneaut put up an impressive 21 points to Northwestern’s 14. The final quarter solidified the Spartans’ dominance, closing out the game with 22 points to Northwestern’s 14.

Player Standouts

Chance Loomis led the charge for the Spartans, contributing a whopping 24 points to the team’s total. Jordan Kulko showcased his skills with 15 points, while JR Hutchinson added 11. Other notable contributors included Davonte Harris and Noah Hamm, each chipping in 8 points, and Aiden Goudge and Cole Stump rounding out the scoring.

On the Northwestern side, Jack Miller led their scoring efforts with an impressive 16 points. Jake Raelman also made a significant impact, contributing 15 points to the Wildcats’ total.

Looking Ahead

With this win, the Conneaut Spartans maintain an undefeated record at 2-0. Their next challenge awaits them at home against the St. John Heralds on December 9, 2023. The Heralds, coming off a heartbreaking 62-61 loss against the Windham Bombers, will be eager to bounce back. The Spartans will need to bring their A-game to secure another victory.

As for the Northwestern Wildcats, they find themselves at 0-2 and will face the General McLane Lancers in their upcoming game. The Lancers, despite a recent 72-65 loss to the Girard Yellow Jackets, will be formidable opponents. The Wildcats will look to turn their season around and secure their first win.

IRISH ARE BACK IN THE REGIONAL FINALS

RAVENNA OH- One year ago, Ursuline matched their way to a regional championship game and fell just short, now a season later they have another opportunity to punch a ticket to Akron. They got there with a 6-2 win over West Salem Northwestern.

Ursuline pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning. In the inning Bednar doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run and Fedor homered on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.

Paige Ogden led the the Irish to victory on the rubber. The righthander surrendered two runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out ten and walking one.

Olivia Amstutz took the loss for Northwestern. The pitcher lasted seven innings, allowing 11 hits and six runs while striking out three.

Ursuline hit two home runs on the day. Mia Opalick had a homer in the seventh inning. Fedor put one out in the second inning.

The Irish tallied 11 hits. Katie Koulianos, Opalick, Fedor, and Madelyn Miklandric all collected multiple hits. Miklandric, Fedor, Opalick, and Koulianos each collected two hits to lead.

Daylie Rickard went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Northwestern in hits. Northwestern didn’t commit a single error in the field. Avery Garver had six chances in the field, the most on the team.

Ursuline advances to their second straight regional championship. This time around they’ll be matched up with Tuslaw. First pitch from Ravenna is set for 4:00.
