TURVEY ON TOP

Being a multi-sport athlete is a tradition at Crestview High School.  The Rebels walk through the halls with pride knowing that they are multi-talented, multi-faceted, and ultimately will have multiple chances to succeed in school, and in life.

For one Crestview Senior this year, the goals are higher, the stage is set, and he’s ready for his shining moment.

Devin Turvey is a southpaw with a north facing outlook.  In fact, off the field, it’s difficult to find this young man not smiling ear to ear.  On the field, you’ll be lucky to match the intensity that 6 brings to the table.  Cool, calm, and calculated on the gridiron as well as the diamond.  Turvey is a winner, and he wants the ball.

We caught up with Devin prior to Week 11-and the Rebels matchup with Gilmour Academy, and we discussed life on and off the field in this week’s Crestview Player Profile: TURVEY ON TOP

THE RIGHT FITZ

At 5’11-140 pounds, Senior Safety and Receiver James Fitzgerald is doing more this year than ever before.  The best part about the contributions is he’s doing it all over Crestview, and not just on the football field.

Fitzgerald is made up of so many things that make him a headache for opposing coaches:

He’s tireless- trying to wear him down during a game won’t work.  The young man plays a sport every season, and still somehow finds time to do his favorite hobbies such as hunting and play XBox.

He’s talented- he covers more ground defensively than the grass on the field.  If the game plan is going past #2 in black and gold- sorry about your luck!

He’s chippy- mostly known as the team’s enforcer on every playing surface- Fitzgerald’s Thor-like locks provide the natural attitude to play from whistle to whistle.

and most of all-

He wants to win- He’s very much one of the leaders on this Crestview team and understands his role is to rally teams with his play and with his motives.

We caught up with James prior to the Week 11 matchup with Gilmour to discuss his success on and off the football field.  Our Crestview Player Profile is: THE RIGHT FITZ

CENTRAL PROTECTION

On every football team there’s one player that is responsible for making the play begin, and often dictates the middle and the ending as well.  It may not be who you’re thinking of, either.

Not a receiver.

Not a tailback.

Not even a quarterback.

How about the Center?  Bingo.

For Crestview, their Senior Center, Josh Simmons has been through the battles and wars for the Rebs, and while the faces and positions around him may change, big 63 is the constant for the Rebels.  He’s the leader, and Captain that his teammates lean on, and helps hold Crestview as one of the best programs in the state.

We caught up with Simmons prior to Crestview’s Week 11 matchup with Glenmour Academy.  He’s the spotlighted Rebel in this edition of Crestview Player Profile: CENTRAL PROTECTION

CRESTVIEW COACH’S CORNER WITH PAUL CUSICK (EP 10)

It’s back to Week 11 for Coach Q and the ‘View!  The Rebs attacked their schedule and are back to make a big-time run in the 2018 OHSAA Tourney.  First up is Gilmour Academy who is 10-0 and are looking to continue their winning ways.

What does Coach Cusick see on tape that the boys need to do to walk away winners?  What keeps the momentum rolling offensively?

We find out all that and more on this week’s Crestview Coach’s Corner with Paul Cusick!

RAISING THE BARR

It’s been a year where Rebel fans have seen much success.  Most of it, if not all is pointed at how these young men of individuals became a team over a ten week period.  Life isn’t always about having the spotlight on you, sometimes it’s about what you do when nobody’s watching that creates the champion.

This situation is one that Crestview Senior Stephen Barr was faced with this year.  The maturity that was shown from all sides is commendable by itself, but the team used moments similar to this all year as rallying points.  One common goal for everybody in that locker room: WIN.  One week at a time.  One opponent at a time.  WIN.

We had a chance to catch up with the Senior Slasher for the Rebs, and Barr discusses how his mindset has changed over his tenure, as well as what he’s looking to do after his days at Crestview are behind him.

Our Rebel Player Profile is: RAISING THE BARR.

ALL IN THE FAMILY

Some call him goofy, some call him unique, most call him Andrew, but everybody calls him talented on the football field.  For Crestview Senior Tailback, Andrew Yanssens, he’s overcome injuries to become one of-if not the best tailback in Rebel History.

As the Rebels head into week 11, we caught up with the wild one that wears the number 26 in the Crestview backfield.  Andrew talks about his plans off the field as he preps to graduate.  A family man at the heart of it all, Yanssens is proud of his last name and all that comes with it.

CRESTVIEW COACH’S CORNER WITH PAUL CUSICK (EP 9)

What a week in The ‘View!  Taking down a D2 opponent one week, and falling to a very tough Indian Creek team the next.

We caught up with Coach after the big victory, and prior to the Linsly game to see what the game plan is, as well as talk about the season up to this point!
