RIGHT ON CUE

Sometimes it’s tough being the coach’s kid.   There’s a certain expectation that you must carry every practice, every down, every game.  However, for Crestview’s Gabe Cusick, he’s made a football career for himself under the radar.  In fact, there were times growing up he didn’t necessarily even want to play football.  However, there came a day where Gabe saw the benefits that his friends had by being part of something bigger than themselves, and what it meant to be Rebel.  What a great opportunity it was to play with his teammates, and for his father.

This year, Gabe is the Captain of the Rebel defense, and is the leading tackler through 6 weeks!  The Rebs (and dad) needed somebody to come in and make an impact in a hurry, and luckily for Crestview-they didn’t have to look far!

CRESTVIEW LOOKS TO BUILD FOR THE FUTURE

The Crestview Local School District is turning its attention to the future home of all Rebels!

A few weeks ago YSN Founder, DJ Yokley, had a chance to sit down with Crestview Local Superintendent Matthew Manley to discuss the upcoming levy- and help everyone better understand the new levy on the ballot in November.

Up for a vote is an opportunity for assistance from the State of Ohio to secure sound facilities and save taxpayers millions in current and future dollars.  The district can build a new facility for less than the cost of needed repairs of the current building.  In fact, the state will pay 88% off the sale price, and this new home would be more cost-effective than the repairs to the current facility.

Even though it’s not sports related, it certainly affects the student-athletes day-to-day, and we wanted to make sure the vision was crystal-clear.

CRESTVIEW FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH PAUL CUSICK (EP 4)

When you build a program built on physicality, it’s inevitable you’re going to get every team’s best shot.  That’s exactly the predicament that Crestview finds themselves in here in 2018.  Coach Q and the boys are feeling inspired after a big game against Warren JFK.

Nothing beats a bit of home cooking to keep things going!  They say revenge is a dish best served cold, and the Rebs have some entrees on ice for Cleveland Shaw.

Will Shaw be able to fire out straight off the bus? Will the Rebels keep cooking up 60-burgers on opposing defenses?

DANTE’S INFERNO

A week after falling short to cross-town rival, South Range, the Crestview Rebels sparked back to life scoring over 60 points on perennial powerhouse Warren JFK.

Amidst the action on the front lines was a beast of a boy named Dante Pelino.  The Crestview Senior is built like an American Action Hero you’d see in the movies, and for the Rebels, he’s just the real-life action hero they’re looking for to ignite the rest of their season in hopes of a post-season push.

CRESTVIEW FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH PAUL CUSICK (EPISODE 3)

When you build a program built on physicality, it’s inevitable you’re going to get every team’s best shot.  That’s exactly the predicament that Crestview finds themselves in here in 2018.  Coach Q and the boys are looking to bounce back after a tough loss to South Range on the road last week.

Nothing beats a bit of home cooking to get back on track!  It might not be Thanksgiving yet, but the Rebs have some bird on the menu this week in the form of the JFK Eagles.

Will attrition be a problem for the black and gold?  JFK had a huge second half against the Rebs last year, can the home team return the favor this time?

HUFFING BY THE OPPOSITION

The word huff is believed to have originated in the late 1500’s. It imitates the sound of blowing (sounds like puff) and is believed to be related to the word. Huff can mean to expel (release) air quickly, much like someone does when they are angry.

So, it’s no surprise the aptly named, Dylan Huff is having no problem in his career blowing by defenses with his speed, agility, and hands to boot.  Giving Defensive Coordinators fits across Ohio (and West Virginia.)

No matter what Dylan does, he does it well.  He’s humble, thoughtful, calculated, and talented beyond measure.  A multi-sport star for the Rebs now into his Senior year, Huff takes a few minutes with our Dimitri Gregory to reflect on what has been, and what’s to come.

CRESTVIEW FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH PAUL CUSICK (EP 2)

With a physical matchup with the Struthers Wildcats in their rearview, Coach Q and the Rebels must turn their attention to their local rival- The South Range Raiders!

The Rebs are looking for revenge after being handed losses on two occasions last season, including the loss that ended their 2017 campaign.

Is revenge in store?  Will the physicality of the previous two games play a part in this week’s outcome?

Find out all that and more in Episode 2 of Crestview Coach’s Corner with Paul Cusick PROUDLY presented by NDC Heating and Cooling!

CRESTVIEW’S PERRY IS SCARY (GOOD)

The age-old question always comes into play when you’re discussing team sports against individual sports: Can a student-athlete do both?  Can they do them both WELL?

Usually, the answer is a resounding no, however, when you’re discussing Crestview’s Dominic Perry-it’s quite the opposite.

Perry not only is an Ohio State Champion in his own regard but doubles as a 4-year starter for Coach Cusick on the Rebel Football Team.  Not only that, but Dom is leaned on, and considered to be the heartbeat of the team amongst his teammates.

Our Dimitri Gregory caught up with Dom before this week’s Struthers game for our First Episode of Crestview Player Profile: CRESTVIEW’S PERRY IS SCARY (GOOD)
