SALEM BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH VINCE NITTOLI (EP 2)

In the Salem High School Weightroom, there’s a countdown on the whiteboard that reads “_________ days until we beat the team in green.”  For the Salem Lady Quakers, it had been over 3,000 days since the last time it happened on the basketball court.   Three thousand, two hundred and sixty-nine days later, on their home floor, Salem prevailed.  Not only to break the streak but to set themselves up atop the EBC standings and in solid position for the first ever Eastern Buckeye Conference crown.

We had a chance to catch up with Coach Nittoli after the game and discuss the chess match that was/is West Branch vs. Salem.  As well as the players that allowed the streak to be broken after nearly 10 years.

All that and more on Episode 2 of Salem Basketball Coach’s Corner with Vince Nittoli.

SALEM BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH VINCE NITTOLI (EP 1)

The Lady Quakers are alive!  Half-way through the campaign, the Salem Ladies Basketball Team is catching their stride in a timely fashion.  Led by a great staff of coaches, and a wave of premiere talent on the court, and Vince Nittoli is tasked with putting it all together.

So far-So good.

Nittoli has led his Lady Quakers to an 11-4 record out of the gate, and are contending in one of the toughest conferences in the area.  The Eastern Buckeye Conference.

We caught up for a long overdue, and much-needed conversation with Coach Vince after a win over Carrollton for our first episode of SALEM BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH VINCE NITTOLI.

SALEM’S ANDRE THE GIANT

Salem has had a very big advantage this season long on the football field:  Special Teams.

Led by Senior Placekicker and soccer player, Andre Tonkinson, the Quaker special teamers have given that third dimension to make them very dangerous.  With Tonkinson coming on late in the season after overcoming injury, the transition has been very smooth sailing.

While not giant in stature, the void Tonkinson fills for each of his teams is enormous.

YSN’s Jarrod Niederhiser sets down with the Salem multi-sport athlete to discuss goals, nerves, and what it’s like to play multiple sports in a single season.  Our Salem Player Profile this week is: ANDRE THE GIANT
