Over her three seasons as the varsity setter for the Rams, she has proven to be an indispensable part of their success, orchestrating their offense with unparalleled skill.

Aulet’s journey as a setter began three years ago, and her growth in the position has been nothing short of remarkable. She possesses an innate understanding of the technical aspects of setting, earning her the reputation as one of the area’s best. Coaches and players alike have marveled at the seamless and swift operation of Mineral Ridge’s offense, and it’s no secret that Aulet’s hands are behind this remarkable efficiency.

This season, Aulet has taken her game to new heights, and the key to her success? Speed. The pace at which she now runs the offense has caught the attention of everyone. Her ability to execute quick, precise sets has brought a new dimension to the Rams’ attack, leaving opponents scrambling to keep up.

Aulet’s exceptional performance hasn’t gone unnoticed, as she earned the title of YSN Setter of the Year last season. This year, she reached a significant milestone by recording her 2,000th career assist, and she shows no signs of slowing down. The race is on to chase down her older sister, Danielle, and the program record of 2,272 assists. While the Aulet sisters share a close bond, they’re equally competitive, and Samantha is determined to hold the ultimate bragging rights.

AULET SELECTED 2022 SETTER OF THE YEAR

EAST PALESTINE OH- Setting in volleyball is equivalent to a quarterback in football, or a point guard in basketball. No one touches the ball more than any of these positions. Their job is to put every one of their teammates in a position to succeed. It takes someone special to be an elite setter. The YSN family is riddled with exceptional players who take that role on their shoulders. Whether they’re part of 6-2 offense splitting with another setter, or run a 5-1 and bare all the responsibility, having a good athlete in that position is crucial.  We are proud to announce that we have selected Mineral Ridge’s Samantha Aulet as the 2022 setter of the year!

Aulet is just a junior but she has already eclipsed 1,000 career assists. Even more impressive is the fact that she’s only been the starting varsity setter for two of her three seasons with the team. She had a good role model her freshman season though in her sister Danielle who finished with more than  2,000 assists in her career. Looking at Aulet’s numbers this year, in just 68 sets played she has set up 642 assists. That’s an average of 9.4 assists per set.  One of her biggest strengths that really separates her is her consistency. In the 1607 sets she’s sent in the air, she has only made 11 ball handling errors all season.  She contributes in other aspects of the game too, as all setters who run a 5-1 should. She has 234 digs so far which ranks 3rd on the team.  She gets aggressive at the net as well with 59 kills out of the front row.

Aulet and her Rams are still alive and well in the district tournament. They will match up with fellow state ranked Kirtland on Wednesday in Grand Valley at 7:30. Congratulations again to Samantha Aulet the 2022 YSN Setter of the Year!

SETTING UP SUCCESS

MINERAL RIDGE OH- As we venture in to the 2022 season of volleyball, Mineral Ridge might just have the best setter in the area. Samantha Aulet has already made a statement setting up 41 assists in the Rams win over Western Reserve. So far, that’s the highest assist total that has been reported to YSN.  It shouldn’t be a surprise to volleyball fans that Mineral Ridge has an elite setter named Aulet. Just two seasons ago, the Rams won a district championship being led by setter Danielle Aulet.  Her younger sister Samantha has never thought twice about stepping into her shoes. She had her freshman season to Lear as much as possible from her sister, and now it’s her turn to shine. Could Samantha lead the Rams to another district championship? That is yet to be seen, but one thing is for sure, however far the Rams go their offense will run smoothly with Aulet calling the shots.

Last season Aulet finished with 691 assists. In 1758 total sets, she only made 44 ball handling errors. If you do the math, that means 97% of her sets are clean.  She also chipped in 271 digs to help out her defense while she was in the back row.

Aulet took the time to talk to YSN’s Anthony Hartwig, and Ty Bartell earlier this week to share about her season. She talks to the guys about how much she learned from Danielle, how much club volleyball has helped her grow, and much more. Check in on the Rams in the latest Mineral Ridge Volleyball Player Profile only on YSN.

RAMS BLAST THROUGH SPRINGFIELD

MINERAL RIDGE OH- Mineral Ridge remained unbeaten in the MVAC on Thursday night with a straight sweep of Springfield (25-15 25-13 25-18).

Set one started off back and forth as the teams were tied 7-7. Then the Rams put the pressure on Springfield and took swift control of the set. Once they had control they never looked back. They’d dominate set one 25-15.

The second set was a roller coaster for both teams. The Rams scored the first three points of the set to lead 3-0. Springfield then rallied to score 9 points in a row. Trailing 9-3, the Rams then finished the set on a 22-4 run to run away with it 25-13.

Set three was the most competitive of the three as the Tigers were getting into the system much more consistently, and then getting strong swings over. However the Rams slowly built their lead and still won with a comfortable score of 25-18.

Morgan Sigley led the way for the Rams offense with 11 kills. Hannah Loeb added 6. Jersey Tucker and Sam Aulet both led the Rams defense with 14 digs a piece. Danielle Aulet lived up to the hype as she controlled the offense for 23 assists.

Madison Lesnak led the Tigers in kills with 7. Carlee Bacon has a good defensive night collecting a match-high 21 digs. Mackenzie Kliem finished with 10 assists.

Mineral Ridge improves to 9-1 and they will host Jackson Milton on Tuesday. Springfield drops to 4-6 and will travel to Lowellville on Tuesday.
