RANGE ROLLS ON THE ROAD
HUNTING VALLEY, OH- Some critics made comments this week that University School could be the biggest test that South Range would face in the regular season. The Raiders have only been back to school for just over a week, but already they’re passing big tests with flying colors after a 42-14 victory Friday evening.
With an intriguing 5pm start in the Prepper’s house, South Range embraced opportunities throughout the game even when penalties would extend drives for University throughout the contest.
Regardless, Shane Lindstrom was feeling it in the first quarter, the senior splashback started the scoring with a 65-yard touchdown from Billy Skripac to put South Range up 7-0. On the next possession, Lindstrom cooked around a corner from 37 yards out on an end-around to put South Range up two scores. Then just moments later, Skripac put a dime on the hands of the senior receiver for a 21-0 lead right out of the gates.
University would put the ball in the hands of Ryan Pattison for a 3-yard plunge after the Preppers would bully their way downfield to chip away at the lead, 21-7. Junior QB, Jackson Boland would then drive the Preppers downfield and connect on a crossing route with Brian Kellon for a 37-yard strike to make it 21-14.
Then, the Raiders punched a ticket for the “E-Train” Blake Ewert after the half, as the featured back took over. Ewert would go in on touchdowns from 26, 34, and 36 yards for the Raiders to put the Preppers to rest in Week 2.
Ewert would finish the game with 187 yards rushing on 17 carries with 3 TD’s. Lindstrom would lead the Raider receiving room with 5 catches for 101 yards and 2 house calls through the air, and an additional on the ground. Billy Skripac would go 8 of 11 through the air for 129 yards and two scores while rushing for 18 yards as well.
Defensively, Luke Starkey led the way with 6.5 tackles and an interception. JD Crouse tallied 5.5 stops including 3.5 tackles for loss. Brady Crummbacher and Ayden Leon also got in on the pick party, with interceptions of their own.
Also worth noting, late in the game- Shane Lindstrom had one of the most acrobatic plays you’ll ever see in high school football, perhaps ever. Lindstrom caught a pass off the right side, advanced the ball, and front-flipped over a defender only to land on his feet and further advance the ball. Ultimately, the play would draw a penalty for “hurdling” a defender, to which is illegal according to the OHSAA.
It’s still worth watching over and over.
South Range (2-0) will travel once again, this time to Canton next week to take on Canton Central Catholic.
