STORM REMAIN STRONG AND WIN TOURNAMENT CROWN

CANFIELD OH- After their big 10-0 win over the top seed in the bracket, it seemed like nothing was going to slow down Steel Valley Storm in the championship. Against a familiar opponent Ohio Blast 06 who they had already played twice this season, the Storm tumbled to a 11-3 championship clinching win.

Christina Montgomery led the offense this time around going a perfect 3-3 with 3 RBI.  Maddie Wymer wasn’t retired on the day going 2-2 with 3 runs scored, and 2 RBI.  Raegan Cool knocked in a pair going 1-2.  Sophia Rivera was perfect at the plate for the second straight game going 2-2 again.

Gretchen Bartels pitched the Storm to victory.  She gave up 2 earned runs on 5 hits and managed to strike out 5.

STORM KNOCK OFF TOP SEEDED MONSTERS

CANFIELD OH- After an offensive onslaught brought the Steel Valley Storm a opening round victory, the bats stayed hot as they rolled to a 10-0 win over the one seed in the 16U bracket Ohio Monsters.

Gretchen Bartels gathered multiple hits and went 2-3 with a run scored and 2 RBI to lead the team.  Maddie Wymer also knocked in 2 RBI going 1-2 with a walk. Ava Freeborough finished 1-4 with 2 RBI as well.  Raegan Cool finished with multiple hits going 2-3. Sophia Rivera was never retired on the day going 2-2 with a walk, and a RBI.  She also walked.

Sophia LaCivita hurled a shutout pitching 5 innings for the Storm.  She gave up 5 hits, and struck out 2.

STORM START BRACKET PLAY WITH A BANG

CANFIELD OH- After a tough 1-2 pool play day against tough competition, Steel Valley Storm started bracket play strong with a 15-1 victory of Explosive Fastpitch Lawson 16U.

The most productive bat in the Storm’s explosive lineup was Olivia LaCivita who went 1-2 with 3 RBI.  Lilly Ditz knocked in a pair of RBI on a 1-2 day.  Ava Freeborough, Maddie Wymer, Christina Montgomery, and Gretchen Bartels all collected 1 RBI on the day.

Ditz got the start in the circle. In the 2 innings of work before the run rule victory, she gave up 1 run on 2 hits.

The win put the Storm in the semifinals against the top seeded Ohio Monsters.

STORM FEELS SUNDAY MORNING BLUES

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- Steel Valley Storm drew an 8:00 am start time on bracket Sunday in the Ohio Blast Father’s Day Classic.  They could never get the bats in full gear, and fell 4-2 in their first round matchup with the Lady Landsharks.

Gabby Goddard had a perfect day at the plate and came up huge with a 2-2 day and a RBI with a run scored. Gretchen Bartels was also perfect at the plate going 2-2.  Olivia LaCivita went 1-2 with a RBI.

Leah Habeger kept the team in the game the whole time. She gave up 2 earned runs on 7 hits in 5 innings pitched.  Her defense backed her up well, as she only struck out 1 hitter.

STORM BOLTS TOWARDS BRACKET PLAY

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- Steel Valley Storm came ready to play early Saturday morning. In their only game of the day, and their last of pool play the Storm thundered to a 9-1 win over Fire Fastpitch.

Christina Montgomery was the biggest bat in the lineup. She went 3-3 with a grand slam, and 4 RBI.  Gretchen Bartels also went 3-3 on the day and she gathered a pair of RBI.  Leah Habeger played a great game, and went 1-3 at the plate with a RBI.  Gabby Goddard went 1-2 with a RBI.

Bartels also brought the gas in the circle. She completely shut down Fire Fastpitch’s offense. She threw all 5 innings and gave up 0 earned runs on 2 hits. She struck out 6 hitters on her way to the win.

The Storm finish pool play at 2-1 and will be the 6 seed for Bracket Play Sunday. They’ll open their quest for a championship Sunday at 8:00am vs the 11th seeded Lady Landsharks

TORNADOES SWEEP UP STORM

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- In their second game of the morning for Steel Valley Storm, they came across the Ohio Tornadoes. After falling behind early 5-2, the Storm’s comeback efforts fell short in a 6-4 loss.

Leah Habeger led the offense with 2 RBI on a 1-2 outing.  Lilly Ditz grabbed multiple hits for the Storm going 2-2.  Christina Montgomery scored 2 runs for the Storm going 1-2 on the day.  Maddie Wymer walked and scored a run.

Ditz pitched the complete game for the Storm. After a tough first inning she battled back and gave the team a chance at the come back. She gave 5 earned runs on 5 hits. She struck out a batter.

LATE RALLY KNOCKS STORM OUT IN SEMIFINALS

WILLOUGHBY OH- In their third game of the day, Steel Valley Storm found themselves up against an impressive Lookouts Elite team. After a scoreless two innings, the Storm took the lead in the top of the 3rd, only to see Lookouts Elite score 5 in the bottom half to pull ahead. The Storm fell short 5-2.

Raegan Cool was a positive note for the offense of the Storm. She went 2-2 on the day with a home run.  Gretchen Bartels kept swinging the hot bat gathering another RBI on a 1-2 day.  Christina Montgomery also went 1-2 with a run scored.

Sophia LaCivita battled through the tough Lookouts lineup. She went all 3 innings of the timed game, and gave up 4 earned runs on 5 hits. She struck out 5.

STORM GETS REVENGE ON LOOKOUTS SELECT

WILLOUGHBY OH- Steel Valley Storm opened up bracket play with a 6-6 tie against the Lookouts Select team. They got a chance to see them again in bracket play, and made the most if the opportunity with a 10-2 blading.

Gretchen Bartels continued her big Sunday with a 1-3 outing knocking in 2 RBI.  Gabby Goddardvwas perfect at the plate going 2-2 with a run scored, and a walk.  Christina Montgomery was also perfect at the plate going 2-2 with a walk, a RBI, and a run scored. Leah Habeger went 1-2 with a walk, and a RBI.

Habeger also got her second win of the day in the circle. This time she went the distance throwing all 4 innings of the timed game. She gave up 2 runs on 6 hits and struck out 5.

MONTGOMERY BLASTS WALK OFF GRAND SLAM TO OPEN BRACKET PLAY

WILLOUGHBY OH- The Steel Valley Storm got all they could handle in Game 1 of bracket play Sunday against Cranberry Chaos 06. They were trailing 5-3 when the clock expired signaling that the teams would have one more inning. The Storm tied the game with a two spot to force extras. Then in the bottom of the extra frame, Christina Montgomery launched a walk off grand slam to seal the 9-5 win.

That was Montgomery’s first hit of the day as she went 1-3 with a run scored and 4 RBI. Raegan Cool did well at the bottom of the order knocking in 2 RBI on a 1-2 day.  Leah Habeger gathered multiple hits going 2-3 with a run scored. Sophia Rivera, and Gretchen Bartels both went 1-3 with a RBI.

Habeger got the win in the circle as she threw the final 3 innings of the game.  She didn’t give up a single hit, and struck out 3.

WYMER WALKS IT OFF FOR STORM

WILLOUGHBY OH- Steel Valley Storm kept the momentum high in their second game on Saturday, and their final game of pool play.  Maddie Wymer hit a walk off base hit to end the game in run rule fashion against Cheetah Fastpitch 15-2:

Wymer finished the day 1-1 with 2 HBP, and 3 RBI. She also scored 2 runs.  Wymer was voted the game MVP by Cheetahs Fastpitch. Gretchen Bartels was perfect at the plate going 2-2 with 4 RBI.  Ava Freeborough put together a good day going 1-2 with a walk, a run scored, and a RBI.  Christina Montgomery went 1-2 with 3 runs scored, and 2 RBI.

Bartels got the start in the circle, and pitched well. She went all 3 innings the game lasted and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits. She was able to strike out 5.
