BACK TO THE PARTY

Last season Izzy Lamparty had to miss nearly all of the 2018 volleyball season with an injury. It was not easy for the athletic sophomore to not be out on the court competing. One year later and healthy again Izzy comes into her junior year with anticipation to be a vital member of the team. Her coaches admitted that the year off set her back as far as volleyball IQ, but as far as athleticism goes, Lamparty never missed a step. Now well into her first full season starting varsity Izzy has proven to be a quick study. It didn’t take long for her to learn the fine details of the Raiders scheme. She has quickly become one of the Raiders top offensive threats, and is a force to be reckoned with in the front row.

YSN’s Anthony Hartwig got a chance to chat with Izzy this week. They discuss dealing with her injury last season, what it’s like being coached by a record holding former Raider, and much more. Are you ready for the party? Check out the latest Raider Volleyball Player Profile Back To the Party.

ICE IN THE VEINS, FROST IN THE NAME

Poland Volleyball has a sizable senior class. With eight girls in the class of 2020, it can get easy to be lost in the shuffle. This is not the case with Emily Frost. As a setter she is involved with every offensive play on the court. The only player that always touches the ball, the setter is like a quarterback on the court. Emily Frost treasures being in this position being able to lead the offense on the floor. She has respect for her role on the floor and what that means for her team. To her, it is important to keep everyone up in times of struggle. Volleyball is all about momentum, and her energy and leadership on the court is an immediate boost to her team’s morale. Frost is arguably the most cerebral player on the court, as most setters are. She has to make split second decisions on where to set the ball based on where the defense is aligned. A master of her craft Frost is working hard to help her team reach their goals.

Anthony Hartwig caught up with Emily this week to talk about being the setter, future goals, and much more. Bundle up Poland fans this one is about to get frosty. Listen to the latest Bulldog Volleyball Player Profile, Ice in Her Veins, Frost in Her Name.

OAK GLEN SNAPS MOONEY WINNING STREAK

A bittersweet moment for the Cardinals in their final home game of the season, as head coach Tony Gorvet made it clear that this would be his last home game as the Mooney volleyball coach. Ten years, a district championship, and well over 130 wins, the team surprised coach with a plaque to commemorate his wonderful career.

The Cardinals played host to the powerhouse Oak Glen Golden Bears, who not only are undefeated on the season, but have only been defeated in two total sets for the season. With each set, Mooney would trade blows with Oak Glen. Magen Petty and Katie Hough combined for 9 kills, Hough specifically brought the crowd and bench to their feet in a spectacular dig in the second set that saved a point for Mooney. Mariah Farragher also contributed 5 kills, two of them coming on back to back plays.

But Oak Glen is undefeated for a reason. Superb serving by Hannah Rogers, who had 4 aces, and pinpoint spikes from Skye Stokes proved to be too much for the Cardinals. The Cardinals fought back late in the third when they trailed 22-7 with 5 straight points, but the Golden Bears would get back on track, and finish off Mooney in 3 sets, snapping Mooney’s home winning streak. The season is not over though! As we wind down volleyball season, the ladies have four more games to play, all of them on the road. And with their talent, and the support of the Mooney family, these girls are confident that a long tournament run is in their future.
