SOUTHEAST CANT HANDLE THE EAGLES ATTACK

LIBERTY, OH- It was an all-around team win for Warren JFK in the regular season finale as they hosted Southeast Friday night. Both sides of the ball were on fire for the Eagles. Quick points, a deadly run game, and great defense propelled JFK to a shutout victory over the Pirates, 50-0.

It was all Eagles from start to finish, JFK’s offensive line carried the run game and allowed Thomas Easton and Antonio Smith to run wild. Easton opened the game up with a 47-yard rushing touchdown which opened the floodgates as JFK put up 28 points in the second quarter alone. They would not stop there as Smith unloaded with 3 of the touchdowns in the second quarter coming from him. The running back duo combined for 167 rushing yards, and scored 5 of the 7 touchdowns for the Eagles.

Easton finished with a perfect stat line of 65 yards and 2 TDs on 2 carries. Smith finished with 102 yards and 3 TDs. In total, JFK put up 358 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground and had 31 yards in the air. Caleb Hadley and Chris Campana each added a TD for the Eagles.

Looking forward into the playoffs for JFK, they are expected to match up with Fairport Harding in the first round. YSN will have the game available along with many others with the Playoff Power Pass on October 28th.

THE ICE QUEEN FEARS NONE

WARREN, OH- If you really think about the background of Warren JFK Sophomore standout Izzy Mauro, the story of what she’s done- and her projected path isn’t that hard to believe.

Mauro is the younger sister of Michael Mauro, and while she’s incredibly proud of that- is starting to blaze her own trail.

Izzy, much like her brother, leaves no mercy on the court- as she’s ranked at the top of the state for the number of blocks she’s put up in 2022.  Mauro’s youthful leadership has helped JFK find their way out of some sticky situations this year- and along with her teammates- have found their identity heading into the postseason.

While all of that is well and good, she’s also hands-on when it comes to getting her hands dirty in the garage, as she received an early birthday present to fix up and cruise around town.

JFK PROVES HOW GOOD THEY ARE

LIBERTY, OH- Warren JFK came into week 7 looking to keep their great season going with a win over a really strong Rootstown team. The Eagles knew it would be a tough matchup as the Rovers came in with an outstanding run game. The JFK defense played a huge role in the game as they came away with 4 turnovers. JFK went into halftime up 14-0 and looked for a way to keep the Rovers in check, but get their offense going. Thomas Easton and Caleb Hadley led the Eagles in the second half on offense, racking up more points as the defense forced Rootstown to pass more and that was what gave JFK the pathway to a shutout victory over Rootstown, 33-0

VANHORN HELPS JFK GET ON THE MAP

WARREN OH- Warren JFK gets a lot of attention during the fall sports season. Although most of that attention usually falls to their football team that is state championship caliber.  However, no matter the sport, success brings eyes upon you. For the Eagles golf program they have found a bunch of success in 2022. One of the big reasons for that is their leader Bryce Vanhorn.  Vanhorn is statistically one of the best golfers in Trumbull county. One thing is for sure, he didn’t wake up and grab a club and all of sudden swing with precision.  Bryce works harder than just about anyone at his craft. With golf, that is so important. You’ll never be great if you don’t take it upon yourself to get better on your own. Bryce has never been shy to work hard. Now this season, he is being rewarded for his hard work with huge results.

Bryce took the time to come on to YSN’s Running Point and talk to Anthony Hartwig and DJ Yokley to talk about his season.  They also talk about what makes JFK such a special place, what his favorite thing about the sport of golf is, and much more. THE BROTHERS VALENT

WARREN, OH- It’s not out of the ordinary to see twin siblings that are different in size, ability, interests, tastes, and even looks.  However, it’s unique to see a pair of brothers who have so many differences, yet share common bonds that will connect them for the rest of their lives, regardless of which way they go.

Meet Patrick and Thomas Valent.

Patrick is a large human being listed at 6’5, 300 pounds of mountain-moving muscle that can only be stopped by the chirp of a whistle.

Thomas is a passion-driven, pass-receiving tight-end listed at 5’11, 185 pounds that has the work ethic of a giant.

While these two gentlemen don’t match in size- it’s their hearts that are really impressive.  The Valent Boys may seem like rough and tumble young men on Friday Nights, but it’s the other days of the week that make them shine.  Patrick is known for being a fun-loving friend and member of his family that will do anything for anyone at any time.  While when discussing Thomas, his heart and generosity has no limit.  Thomas hosts “Hometown Hero” Podcast and interviews people from around the area and beyond who make a difference in the lives of others- much like he does on a daily basis.

In knowing this, it’s easy to root for these two young men in all they do in life, not just on the field of play.

YSN’s DJ Yokley had the honor of sitting down with “The Brothers Valent” for this Player Profile of Warren JFK Football.

EAGLES LATE GAME GAMBLE REWARDED

GARRETTSVILLE OH-  Like everyone expected, Warren JFK and Garfield found themselves in a back and forth affair. But no one could have guessed the dramatic way it would end. With just over 1 minute remaining in the game, and JFK trailing 21-14, Caleb Hadley capped off an impressive drive with a three yard touchdown pass to Ambrose Hoso. This set the score at 21-20, and set the stage for an extremely dramatic ending. Rather than going for the tie, JFK elected to go for the lead with a two point conversion.  Hadley hit Thomas Valent on a jump pass to complete the conversion, and give the Eagles a 22-21 win.

Antonio Smith was a big reason why the Eagles won. He gained 134 years on 16 rushes and scored once. Hoso caught a pair of touchdowns through the air.

Keegan Sell was a force for the G-Men on the ground. He ran for 153 yards and two touchdowns.  Carter Bates also ran for 80 yards and he found pay dirt once.

The Eagles will welcome in Sandusky Perkins to Warren in Week 4. Garfield starts play inside the MVAC with a road trip to LaBrae.
