LATE BURST HELPS CANFIELD SWEEP SPARTANS

CANFIELD OH- The first five innings of the AAC game Tuesday night between Canfield and Boardman was back and forth. However, in the bottom of the 6th with two outs Canfield pushed ahead with 4 runs to secure a 7-3 win and the season sweep.

The Cardinals scored first in the 2nd when Elizabeth Ferraro doubled scoring her sister Sarah.

Boardman took a 2-1 lead in the third when Maddie Lester hit a sac fly to tie it, and then Jenna Olexa singled to score Kat Ohoro.

Canfield would not go away though, with two outs in the next half inning Bridget Kelly tied it back up with a RBI single scoring Ferraro.  The Cardinals then would load the bases with no outs in the 5th. They would score 1 run on a RBI fielder’s choice from Kelly.

An error in the next half inning scored Olexa as she went from first to third on a bunt, and then came home on an overthrow.

In the bottom of the sixth, Elizabeth Ferraro hit a lead off double off the wall. Then Lester recorded back to back strike outs looking to escape the jam. Sarah Ferraro hit a ball hard up the middle that Olexa dove and stopped to keep in the infield, and save a run for the time being. The Cardinals would not be denied though as with Gianna Pannunzio at the plate, a wild pitch gave Canfield the 4-3 lead and then she singled to score 1 more. After her hit, Madison Angelo launched a two run home run to put Canfield up 7-0. Malena Toth came on to get the final six outs of the game to secure the Cardinals win.

Isabella Kennedy got the start in the circle for Canfield. She went 5.0 IP gave up 5 H and 2 ER. She struck out 2 and walked 0.

Lester took the loss for Boardman. Her final line look like this 6.0 IP 12 H 6 ER 7 K 0 BB.

Sarah Ferraro went 4-4 with 3 runs scored. Angelo went 1-3 with 2 RBI. Elizabeth Ferraro went 2-3 with 2 runs scored. Pannunzio went 2-4 with a RBI and run scored.
