AUSTINTOWN’S FIGHT IN REGIONALS CONTINUES

WHITESTOWN IN-  Austintown has been in the elimination bracket all week in the regional tournament after falling in their first game on Sunday.  That hasn’t phased this team one bit as they have won 4 straight elimination games coming in to Thursday’s semifinal matchup. Their fight to a championship will continue as they bested Indiana 4-1 to set up a rematch with Iowa.

Austintown  got on the board in the first inning after Bella Baumgart tripled, scoring one run. An error extended the Austintown lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning.

Mila Hamley led things off in the circle for Austintown. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and one run over six innings, striking out eight and walking two. Hamley has gathered 18 strikeouts in less than 24 hours in 12 innings pitched.

Annabel Mikesell drove the middle of the lineup, leading Austintown with two runs batted in. The third baseman went 2-for-2 on the day, and has 6 RBI in the last 3 games.  Austintown also got hits from Hamley, Zara Burt, and Tori Greathouse.

Austintown has advanced to the Central Region Championship where they’ll matchup with Iowa. The winner will go to the Little League World Series in Greensville North Carolina.  The championship will be Friday at 3:00 on ESPN+.
