BULLDOGS SPLIT SATURDAY DOUBLE HEADER

GAME 1 vs University:

Four hits from Mary Brant helped lead the way for Poland over University 23-2 on Saturday. Brant singled in the third, tripled in the third, singled in the fourth, and homered in the fifth.

Poland got on the board in the first inning. Abby Farber grounded out, scoring one run.

In the bottom of the first inning, University tied things up at one.

The Bulldogs pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning. In the second Connie Cougras singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, Jackie Grisdale singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, and Cameryn Lattanzio hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.

Poland put up ten runs in the third inning. Leanne Williams, Grisdale, Lattanzio, Farber, Brant, and Katie McDonald each had RBIs in the frame.

McDonald got the win for the Bulldogs. The righthander went three innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out six and walking zero. Lattanzio threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Lattanzio recorded the last six outs to earn the save.

Poland launched one home run on the day. Brant had a four bagger in the fifth inning.

Poland had 24 hits in the game. Brant, Cougras, McDonald, Lattanzio, Emily Denney, Grisdale, Williams, and Farber each racked up multiple hits. McDonald, Cougras, and Brant each managed four hits to lead.

GAME 2 vs Steubenville:

Poland dropped the second game of the day to Steubenville 9-5 on Saturday.

Steubenville opened up an early lead in the first inning when an error scored one run.

Poland knotted the game up at two in the top of the second inning. Mary Brant hit a solo homer.

After Poland scored one run in the top of the sixth, Steubenville answered with one of their own. The Bulldogs scored when Abby Farber hit a solo homer. Steubenville then answered when Mary Marshall singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Steubenville took the lead for good with five runs in the third inning. In the third Marshall singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs, Lakyn Blackburn singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs, and an error scored one run.

Jules King was the winning pitcher for Steubenville. King went seven innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and striking out 13.

Katie McDonald took the loss for Poland. The righty allowed 11 hits and nine runs over six innings, striking out two and walking zero.

The Bulldogs hit two home runs on the day. Farber had a long ball in the sixth inning. Brant had a four bagger in the second inning.

Poland saw the ball well today, racking up seven hits in the game. Jackie Grisdale and Emily Denney all managed multiple hits. Denney and Grisdale each managed two hits to lead.

Steubenville tallied 11 hits in the game. King, Amaria Swearengen, and Marshall all had multiple hits. King went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead in hits.
