CARDINALS FLY TO FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

CANFIELD, OH- In a combined effort on the bump, Canfield was able to strong-arm Strongsville in a 3-1 victory to start their season.

Canfield Cardinals pitchers allowed just three hits to Strongsville Mustangs Varsity, and the Cardinal offense opened up scoring in the first inning. AJ Havrilla hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring one run.

Connor Miller was the winning pitcher for Canfield Cardinals. Miller surrendered one run on three hits over three innings of relief, striking out four and walking one. Ryan Petro and Jake Grdic entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief, while Nate Shaw started the game for Canfield Cardinals. The righthander allowed zero hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out three and walking one

Beard was on the mound for Strongsville Mustangs Varsity. The hurler surrendered one run on five hits over three innings, striking out three and walking zero. #16 threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Petro led Canfield Cardinals with two hits in three at-bats.  Ben Slanker delivered a two-RBI double in the fourth inning to put Canfield over the top.  Shaw, Landon Beidelschies, and Josh Juliano went one for three, while Ethan Prout and Michael Patellis added a base-knock as well in the victory.

The Cardinals (1-0) now look to head toward Toledo to compete in a PBR Tournament on Friday and Saturday against some of the best teams around the Buckeye State.
