FALCONS DOMINATE TO KEEP FIRST PLACE

STRUTHERS OH- There was a lot on the line on Wednesday night in Cene Park. The first place spot in Class B 18U baseball was up for grabs as the Astro Falcons came in trailing Creekside Fitness by a half game. The Falcons took total control of first place in a dominating 10-0 victory.

Anthony Miller led the Falcons offense going 2-3 with 4 RBI.  Eric Sungren knocked in a pair of runs on a 1-3 day. He also scored a run. Ben Slanker had multiple hits going 2-3 with 2 runs scored.  Clay Wiesen put together a solid day going 2-3 with 3 runs scored.

Jordan Kolenda kept Creekside’s offense in check pitching the complete game and giving up 0 runs on 3 hits.  He struck out 10 hitters.

Braden Ziegler and Tyler Kamerer both went 1-2 for the Creekside offense.  Collin Marinpetro reached every time he came to the plate going 1-1 with a walk.

Zach Luciano took the loss on the mound for Creekside.  Only 1 run he gave up was earned on 7 hits.

ATHLETIX SURGE AHEAD


STRUTHERS OH- A late 6th inning surge was the key for Athletix as they came away with the win Monday night over Ballistic. In 18U Class B action, Athletix walked away with a 7-2 victory.

Nathan Vidmar, Clay Mitchell, and Isaiah Torres all led Athletix at the plate. Vidmar went 3-4 on the day with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Mitchell went 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Torres finished 2-2 with an RBI and 2 walks. Athletix finished with 7 runs on 11 hits, along with 6 RBIs and 8 walks as a team.

Jack Leipheimer got the win on the hill for Athletix. He went 6 IP, allowing 2 earned runs on 7 hits. He finished with 4 strikeouts on the day.

Both Tyler Cunningham and Will Morrow led Ballistic at the plate. Cunningham went 2-2 on the day with an RBI. Morrow went 2-3 with a run scored and a stolen base. Ballistic finished with 2 runs on 7 hits, and an RBI as a team.

Morrow took the loss for Ballistic. He went 3 IP, giving up 3 earned runs on 6 hits. He struck out 4 on the day.

CREEKSIDE WINS ANOTHER CLOSE ONE


STRUTHERS OH- Creekside looked to move to 9 straight wins on Monday with a win over the Avalanche, and they did just that in a tight game. In 18U Class B action, Creekside fought to a 2-1 victory.

Tyler Kamerer and Colin Marinpetro both came up big at the plate for Creekside. Kamerer went 3-4 with 2 runs scored. Marinpetro went 4-4 with an RBI. Creekside scored 2 runs on 9 hits, and 1 RBI as a team.

Mark Bunch got the win on the hill for Creekside. He went 7 IP with 1 earned run on 4 hits. He finished with 7 strikeouts on the day.

Both Lucas Cummings and Kenny Lavrich led the Avalanche at the plate. Cummings went 2-2 on the day. Lavrich went 1-3 with a run scored and an RBI on a Home Run. The Avalanche  scored 1 run on 4 hits, along with 1 RBI as a team.

Jaret Boyer took the loss for the Avalanche. He went 7 IP, surrendering 1 earned run on 9 hits. He finished with 6 strikeouts on the day.

ASTRO FALCONS COMPLETE COMEBACK IN REVENGE VICTORY OVER KNIGHTLINE

STRUTHERS, OH- A day after Knightline handed the Astro Falcons their first loss of the season, the Falcons mounted a 4 run comeback to beat Knightline. JFK graduate Gavin Shrum had a clutch 2 RBI single in the third inning to get Knightline on the board first. Anthony Massucci then plated Shrum with an RBI ground out to extend the lead to 3-0. The Falcons would take advantage of a throwing error from right field to respond with a run in the bottom half of the third. Later in the fourth inning, catcher Aaron Posey and right fielder Eric Sundgren scored to tie the ballgame up at 3. In the bottom half of the sixth inning, Posey reached on a walk and then stole second and third base to put the go-ahead runner at third base. Zach Herb stepped up to the plate and drove in Posey with a single into left field. Herb would then finish the ballgame on the mound, securing the comeback victory of 4-3.

The Astro Falcons improve to 11-1 on the season, while Knightline drops to 5-8. Herb picks up his second win of the season after combining for 3 shutout innings out of the bullpen, while striking out 2 batters and not allowing one free pass. Knightline reliever Ronnie Harper gets a tough luck loss going 2.1 innings, while striking out 5 batters.

FOURTH INNING EXPLOSION LIFTS DURA EDGE PAST WHITING

STRUTHERS, OH- Dura Edge and Whiting met in an 18U Youngstown Class B match-up on Monday night. Both teams struggled defensively, which ignited Dura Edge to victory by a final of 9-4.

Dura Edge got the ball rolling in the first on back to back RBI singles by Camden Sergi and Tom Schubert. Whiting would counter with 2 runs in the 3rd inning to tie the ballgame on an RBI single by Brennan Porter. Dura Edge exploded offensively in the fourth inning, with 6 runs on 5 hits in the frame, taking a 9-3 lead. Whiting scored 1 run in the fifth on an RBI double by Porter, but that was not enough, as Dura Edge kept the lead to win it 9-4.

ONE RUN IS ALL WHITING NEEDS FOR VICTORY

STRUTHERS OH- It’s not very often you come across a true pitcher’s duel in baseball anymore. With so much focus on offense, a 1-0 has become an anomaly. For Whiting, and Prospects 18U teams it apparently needed to happen. Both teams were electric on the mound, but Whitibg came out on top 1-0.

Brady Shannon got the game winning RBI going 1-3 on the day.  He knocked in Cooper Vance who went 1-2 with a walk. Anthony Malagise led Whiting in hits going 2-2.

It was the pitcher’s who shined the brightest in this battle. Shannon got the win for Whiting. He went 2 innings and gave up 0 runs on 0 hits.  Marc Conti took the bulk of the work throwing 4 innings and giving up 0 runs on 3 hits. He struck out a pair.

Although Prospects only managed 4 hits, they did draw 6 walks. Robert Gumino went 1-2 with a walk on the day.  A.J Stallsmith had identical numbers going 1-2 with a walk.  Olindo Pezzone went 1-3 on the day.

Nick Church took the loss as he tossed all 6 innings and gave up 1 run on 5 hits.  He struck out 6 hitters, and used 92 pitches to get through the game. That’s an average of just over 15 pitches per inning.

 

AVALANCHE KEEP BALLISTIC ON ICE

STRITHERS OH- Both team’s pitching was on point on Sunday between Avalanche and Ballistic Baseball. Avalanche just made enough plays to open up a 3-1 win on the day.

Logan Ayres came up big for Avalanche. He went 1-4 on the day with 2 RBI.  Jaret Boyer also hit in a RBI going 1-3 with a run scored.  Kenny Lavrich had a solid day going 1-2 with a walk.

Lucas Cummings pitched a gem on the hill and got the win. He went 7 innings and only gave up 1 run on 4 hits. He struck out a pair.

Luke Leonard knocked in the only run of the day for Ballistic while going 1-3 at the plate.  Boyd Kurtz went 1-2 with a walk and a run scored.  Brady Harman, and Tyler Mack both put in 1-3 days to finish out their offense.

Dawson Morrow pitched well despite taking the loss for Ballistic. He went 5 innings and gave up 3 runs on 6 hits.  He also struck out 3 batters.

KNIGHTLINE WALK OFF COMPLETES THE UPSET

STRUTHERS OH- Knightline went toe to toe with the top of the 18U division of Class B Baseball as they walked off Astro Falcons to secure a 11-10 victory.

Anthony Massucci made the most out of a 1-3 day for Knightline knocking in 3 RBI.  He also scored a run.  Ty Eberhardt had a perfect day at the plate going 2-2 with a walk, 2 runs scored, and a pair of RBI.  Chance Lazcko also had a great day going 2-2 at the plate with a run scored and a RBI. Mikey Sciortino went 1-3 with a walk and a run scored.

The Astro Falcons had plenty of offense to go around despite the loss.  Zach Herb went 2-3 on the day with a pair of RBI.  Tino Campoli also knocked in a pair of RBI with 2 walks and a run scored.  Anthony Miller gathered a pair of RBI as well going 1-4 with a run scored.

KNIGHTLINE EARNS VICTORY IN PITCHER’S DUEL

STRUTHERS OH- Everything was magnified on Saturday in a matchup between Knightline and Whiting Roll-Offs in the 18U division.  Neither offense had much breathing room, but it was Knightline who came out on top 3-1 thanks to a two run 3rd inning.

Chance Lazcko got a big hit for Knightline going 1-2 on the day with a RBI. Anthony Massucci mirrored those numbers on a 1-2 day and a RBI.  Alex Grzyb collected multiple hits going 2-3 with a run scored.  Gavin Shrum added a RBI to the cause.

Grzyb took the win, and the complete game on the hill. He pitched well, giving up just 1 run on 5 hits and striking out 10.

Sal Mineo had the lone RBI for Whiting. He went 1-3 on the day.  Cooper Vance put together multiple hits on a 2-3 showing.  Shane Roper went 1-1 and scored the only run of the day for Whiting.

Isaac Librich took the loss despite pitching quite well on the mound. He went 4 innings and gave up 3 runs on 5 hits. He struck out 4 batters.

FALCONS CONTINUE THEIR DOMINANCE

STRUTHERS OH- The Astro Falcons 18U team continues to be a puzzle that Class B teams can’t solve. Their latest conquest was a 14-0 smashing of Avalanche.

Devon Zirwas was the biggest bat in the lineup Friday. He went 3-4 with 2 runs scored, and 3 RBI.  Zach Herb went 1-2 with a walk, a run scored, and a pair of RBI.  AJ Havrilla was electric as always going 2-3 with 2 runs scored, and a RBI.  Tino Campoli had a perfect day at the office going 2-2 with a walk, and a run scored.

Jordan Kolenda took the complete game win for the Falcons.  He gave up 0 runs on 3 hits in the 5 innings of work he put in.  He struck out 8.

James Zugai got a hit in his only official at bat going 1-1 on the day for Avalanche. DJ Donatelli went 1-2, and Michael Earman rounded out the offense going 1-2 as well.
