CLIPPERS CAP OFF PERFECT WEEK

COLUMBIANA OH-

Columbiana (9-0) went a perfect 5 of 5 for the week with an 11-5 victory over the Potters of East Liverpool.  Alex Eusebio picked up his second win of the season after he went 4.2 innings and striking out three.  Eusebio left with a six run lead and Riley McElwain was able to close the door striking out five in 2.1 innings of no hit ball.

The Clippers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead but the Potters responded with three in the bottom of the first to give East Liverpool the one run lead.  It was the first time all season the Clippers have trailed.  The lead, however, was short lived as Columbiana scored six in the top of the second to take a commanding five run lead.  The inning was sparked by Bayden Pipoly.  Brady Kridler walked with one out and was sacrificed to second by Trevor Dearing.  Pipoly came up and lined a single to center driving home Kridler and tying the game.  Some heads up baserunning would eventually bring Pipoly home with the go ahead run on a wild pitch.  Columbiana would tack on four more all with two outs giving them an 8-3 lead.

For the day, a number of Clippers had impacts.  Defensively, Pipoly helped stop a rally with a diving catch in center that resulted in a double play  Colin Keleman was strong behind the plate throwing a runner out at third to end a rally and being a wall behind the plate.  Offensively, McElwain had two hits and two RBI and Devin Daugherty doubled and tripled while driving in two runs.  Zachary Pleska hit three run homerun in the top of the fifth that put the game out of reach for the winners.  Alex Eusebio doubled, while Seth Spooner reached based five times with four walks and a single.

The Clippers will welcome Wellsville to Firestone Park on Monday to continue EOAC play.  First pitch is scheduled for 5 PM.
