CLIPPERS FLY PAST THE EAGLES

COLUMBIANA, OH- After a slow start, the Columbiana Clippers erupted in the second quarter en route to a 41-8 victory over the United Golden Eagles Friday night here at Firestone Park. Senior signal-caller, Jakob Cross, had a prolific first half throwing four touchdown passes and running for one.

The Clippers’ first score came on a 25-yard catch and run from Hunter Zentner. Cross would then find Chase Franken down the left sideline for 72 yards. An onslaught of scoring would see Cross hit Xathon Cross in the back of the end zone and Justin Rydarowicz in the short corner
before scampering 53 yards for a rushing touchdown to close out the scoring in the first half giving the Clips a 34-0 lead at intermission.

Columbiana would tack on one more in the second half as Tony Kocanjer romped 70 yards to paydirt. The lone United score was one for the ages. Tyler Lippiatt turned the corner from his own one-yard line, broke a couple of tackles and cut back before streaking down the middle of the field for a 99-yard jaunt to the end zone.

Cross amassed over 200 yards passing and 100 yards rushing in the first half, prompting Coach Spaite to give his QB the rest of the night off. Franken had 97 yards receiving for Columbiana. The Clippers (3-3) host Brookfield on Homecoming night next Friday. YSNLive.com will bring
