CLIPPERS OPEN SEASON WITH VICTORY

COLUMBIANA, OH- After a day of schedule rearranging, the Clippers (1-0) opened the season with an 11-1 five-inning victory over Warren Harding (0-1) at Firestone Park.  Columbiana was originally scheduled to play at Rootstown to open the season but the Rovers were unable to get their field ready, and get to Columbiana so the Clippers and Raiders matched up to open the season.

Riley McElwain (1-0) got the start for the Clippers and was dominant on the mound.  McElwain pitched the five-inning complete game striking out 14.  He gave up 3 hits and 1 ER on the day.

The Clippers pounded out 13 hits with Zachary Pleska leading the way offensively.  Pleksa was 3-4 including a home run, triple, and four RBI’s.  Seth Spooner was 4-4 with 2 RBI’s.  Alex Eusebio had two hits including a double and Bayden Pipoly also added two knocks and scored three runs.

Next up the Clippers will face off against the Howland Tigers on Thursday afternoon at Firestone Park.  The first pitch is scheduled for 5 PM.
