HAHLEN BREAKS STRIKE OUT RECORD

HANOVERTON, OHIO – Never trailing in a game is a good way to show your ability to play fundamentally sound baseball from start to finish. An all around strong performance by United earned them a 7-0 shutout victory over Wellsville on Thursday.

Nevin Hahlen was the star of the show for United with an untouchable performance on the mound. Hahlen’s line of work was two hits allowed and zero runs over five and  two-thirds innings, with an incredible 17 strikeouts off Wellsville hitters. That number was enough to secure the program strike out record for a game.

The United offense got down to business early on with a Parker Newburn ground out that plated one run. The crooked numbers came late in the game for United to put the game out of reach with three runs in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth inning. Louden Stryffeler singled and Ryan Keir reached on an error.

The leading hitter for United at the plate was Newburn who swung a nice bat going three-for-four. To add to the clean and fundamentally sound performance for United, the team did not commit any errors in the field.

United will next prepare for a matchup with Ursuline on Friday night at 5:00 p.m. for a chance to get a winning streak started.
