HOWLAND WINS AN INSTANT CLASSIC FOR SPOT IN DISTRICTS

HOWLAND, OHIO- The Howland Tigers took the lead late and defeated the Alliance Aviators 15-11 on Thursday in the sectional finals.

The game was tied at nine with Howland Tigers batting in the bottom of the fifth when Brooke Tatar doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring three runs.

The Tigers tallied 17 hits in the game. Massucci, Kayla Campbell, Lopez, who hit the other home run of the day in the fifth inning, Spangler, and Sydney VanNess each racked up multiple hits for the Tigers as Massucci led things at the plate with five hits in five at bats as she singled in the first, homered in the third, singled in the fourth, singled in the fifth, and singled in the sixth.

The Aviators totaled 11 hits as Reese, Tashia Hendershot, and Hendershot each collected multiple hits for the Aviators. Reese led things off in the circle for the Aviators. The pitcher allowed 16 hits and 15 runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking zero.

Megan Hippely threw one and one-third innings in relief. Tatar started the game for the Tigers. The hurler went two innings, allowing six runs on four hits and striking out three.

The Tigers will now take on Mogadore Field in a chance to get to the District Championship.
