JFK HAS ARRIVED- EYES STATE SEMI

WARREN, OH- All week leading up to the Warren JFK/Lucas Regional Final game for Division 7, the “experts” doubted the Eagles and what they’ve shown to this point in the offseason.  Could Kennedy hold up to the strategy and unique style of Lucas?  Are they powerful/flashy enough on offense to slip past the front line of the Cubs?

Maybe all along, the so-called experts should have given credit where credit was due?  JFK has powered through a gauntlet of a regular season, and overcome injuries, and other adversities on their way to staking claim to a spot at the table in the state semi-finals next Friday by defeating Lucas 21-0 Friday night.

JFK (8-2) hit the jets early as they were able to stay strong defensively throughout the game and had key stop after key stop.  Michael Mauro seemed to shoot through the gaps all night to limit the Cubs quarterback Andrew Smollen to 86 yards passing on 24 attempts.  The defensive line crashed the Lucas backfield like a tsunami throughout the game, giving up a few splash plays (longest was 11 yards), but none that resulted in points.  Eddie Kiernan was pivotal in keeping contain off the edge, and continued to battle despite a broken right hand.

Offensively, the RPO Machine and Kennedy Swiss-Army Knife, Cam Hollobaugh continued to keep the Cubs defense on skates.  Hollobaugh rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries while delivering a perfect spiral into the endzone from 32 yards out to connect with Sejjan Couto.

Not to be undersold, Kennedy special teams was outstanding on coverage, as well as flipping the field on punts.  Nick Fordely was able to give the Blue Storm breathing room all evening with his big leg, and continually pinning Lucas on their side of the field.

Warren JFK will now face Newark next Friday in a location to be determined later.  YSN will have you covered with updates, as well as the stream of the game (video if permitted) throughout the week and up to gameday.
