LABRAE DEFENSE LOOMS LARGE

By Matt Maher

LEAVITTSBURG, OH – It was business as usual for LaBrae Tuesday night when they hosted Windham. The Vikings would show dominant play on offense and some great defense against the Bombers that would help lead them to a 52-32 victory.

For Windham the first quarter was a feeling out for how the game would go and as a result of their more passive start they would only put up 6 points. All 6 came from 3 different sources: Briah Daniel, Brielle Jones and Lorena De Oliveria. While The Bombers didn’t score a whole lot, they did find a groove on the defensive side of the ball in the final 2 minutes which helped them keep LaBrae from scoring on an astronomical scale. Speaking of LaBrae they found 14 points with 9 of them coming from the great Ella Kuszmaul who hit three 2’s as well as the games first 3.

LaBrae continued their hot hands with 16 more points in the 2nd quarter. Scoring was spread across 6 different players including Marissa Levensky who found her first 2, Mia Sloan who scored a beautiful 3 and Ella Kuszmaul who found 5 more points with a 2 and a 3. Windham found 10 points and were led by Daniel who erupted for 6 points and really got her fantastic night started in this frame.

Windham would continue to see Daniel score another 8 points and continue to amaze everyone in the gym and at home. The other 2 points would come from Mariah Woods who had spent all night intercepting passes and pushing the ball down the floor and while the majority of her shots were too hard she did show improvement as the game went on. LaBrae scored 12 more points on their way to 52 with another even quarter of scoring among the team. Levensky scored 4 more points doubling her first half production while Kuszmaul only added 2 more points.

Windham continued their defensive showing but still had trouble cashing in on chances and with their struggles they only managed to score 6 points with all of them coming from Daniel who hit a 2 and then went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. Briah Daniel would go on to finish the night with 22 points which led all players in scoring. LaBrae would only score 10 points with 6 of them coming from Levensky who really found herself in the final frame. The other 4 would come from Eva Prejsnar and Kuszmaul who each scored 2 points.

It was another great night for the Vikings who improved to 8-1 with this latest victory. Ella Kuszmaul finished with 18 points and Marissa Levensky with 12. For Windham they were led far and away by Briah Daniel with her 22 points and no Bomber came close with the second highest scorer being Mariah Woods who had 4 points. Despite the great defense we saw from Windham the Vikings were too much to contain and as a result they moved to 4-3. Windham will be back in action where they travel to Maplewood to take on the rockets at 5:30Pm on January 4th and LaBrae will stay at home when they host Campbell Memorial on January 4th at 7:00PM.
