POTTERS MARCH AWAY FROM MINERVA

MINERVA OH- The East Liverpool Potters entered the 2022 campaign with a ton of question marks. Friday night the young Potters hopefully answered some of those questions en route to a dominant 44-7 win over Minerva. First year head coach Don Phillips brought his over 30 years of coaching experience to East Liverpool in hopes of getting a young Potters squad headed in the right direction.  Early in the 1st quarter it appeared that the stage may have been too bright for the Potters as a muffed snap to the punter led to a Minerva 5 yard touchdown giving the Lions an early 7-0 lead.

The Potters would quickly answer, marching 60 yds before Sophomore QB Gavin Wright scampered untouched 4 yards to pay dirt, followed by a 2 point conversion giving the blue and white an 8-7 lead.  The East Liverpool defense took control from that point. Minerva, held without a first half first down, muffed their own punt in the endzone leading to safety increasing the East Liverpool lead 10-7.  Gavin Wright on the ensuing possession would strike through the air finding a wide open Michael Harty for a 26 yard touchdown pass, the 2 point conversion made it 16-7 at the half.

The second half was pure domination by the Potters as Gavin Wright struck quickly on a 63 yard touchdown finding Stephen Dorsey increasing the lead 22-7.  Wright would finish the game 4/5 121yds 2TDs. Running Back Trent Davis and the Potters offensive line took control from that point. Davis would put his team on his back carrying the rock 20 times for 128 yards, adding a one yard touchdown in the 4th quarter making it 28-7. MInerva would botch the ensuing kickoff giving the Potters another opportunity.

The next possession would see Jaymin Hainey take it 34 yards to the endzone making it 36-7. Michael Harty would cap the night for the Potters, scooping up a blocked punt and taking it to the house for his second touchdown . East Liverpool would finish the night out gaining Minerva in total yards 366-36, while limiting the Lions to just 2 first downs.  The Potters look to continue their winning ways next Friday at Indian Creek.
