RED DEVILS FLARE THEIR WAY TO FIRST WIN

Campbell defeated East 9-3 on Thursday thanks in part to five runs in the sixth inning. It was Campbell’s first win of the season. In the sixth, Ramani Adams singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Carla Ortiz Ramirez doubled, scoring three runs.

The Red Devils got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Angeliz Diaz hit into a fielder’s choice, Charlasha Smallwood grounded out, and Cyra Cross tripled, each scoring one run.

Campbell took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. An error scored one run, to give them the upper hand, 4-3.

Adams earned the win for the Red Devils. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and three runs (two earned) over seven innings, striking out nine and walking seven.

Cross made the most of her chances at the plate. The number nine hitter led the team with two hits in three at bats. Ortiz Ramirez led with two runs batted in. The third baseman went 1-for-2 on the day. Adams paced the team with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game.
