BOARDMAN CONTINUES SUCCESS IN FLORIDA

Boardman beat St. Ursula Academy Varsity Arrows 4-1 on Thursday to continue play in Florida. An error put St. Ursula Academy Varsity Arrows on the board in the top of the first. Tori Strines scored after tagging up, which helped Boardman tie the game at one in the bottom of the first. A ground out by Strines gave them the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the second. They added one run in the third. Ellie Wymer singled, making the score 3-1.

Strines earned the win for the Spartans. They allowed three hits and one run (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out four and walking three.

Laci Jurus, Strines, Mikayla Rivera, and Wymer each drove in one run for Boardman. Rivera went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the way in hits. Boardman had a strong eye at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game. Maddie Wymer and Leah Habeger led the team with two walks each.

GAME 2

Boardman easily dispatched St. Ursula Academy on Thursday, 8-2 in game 2 of a double header in Florida. A walk by Maddie Wymer put Boardman on the board in the top of the first. They added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Mikayla Rivera was struck by a pitch, Wymer walked, and Addie Kowacich walked, each scoring one run.

Kowacich earned the win for Boardman. The starting pitcher allowed five hits and two runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out three and walking five.

Boardman accumulated 10 hits in the game. Kaitie Pellin, Tori Strines, Alex Ward, Kowacich, and Rivera each collected two hits. Ward and Kowacich were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for the offense. Wymer led Boardman with four walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up nine walks for the game. The Spartans stole four bases in the game. They also  turned one double play in the game.
