By Chris Sigler

SALINEVILLE OH- Southern Local entered the 2023 season with expectations running high as 7 seniors returned from a 19 win campaign.  The Indians have picked right up from where they left off, reeling off 3 straight wins to start the season. Cotton Valley traveled to the Wigwam Monday looking to play spoiler but Southern paid no mind to those plans as the Indians swept the Rockets 25-18, 25-20, 20 to raise their record to 4-0.

Hannah Reynolds would come to play as the Senior totaled 16 points, 3 aces, and 10 kills. Head Coach Bob Shansky took notice of his seniors performance ” Hannah is one of those players who plays with a lot of energy, sometimes it needs to be a little harnessed, tonight we definitely fed off of it.” Ashley Shroades contributed 14 kills, while teammate Aleah Bach tallied 9 points and 6 kills. Esther Forbes and Gigi Rodgers each added 8 kills respectively for the victors. The Indians coach knows how important their experience is to their success

“I’ve had these Seniors since they were in the 7th grade, as things get tight as that 3rd set did I have confidence in their abilities to get through it.” Southern (4-0, 2-0) looks to keep their coach’s confidence high as they look for their 5th straight win Tuesday at Valley Christian.
