BRAVES CHOP DOWN HEARTLAND CHRISTIAN

KINSMAN OH- The Badger Braves improved to 4-2 after a 73-69 victory over Heartland Christian in Friday night‘s action.

Heartland held a 43-32 lead at the midway mark but Badger out-scored the Lions 25-10 in the 3rd period.

The Braves were led by Jack Lender with 26 points and Bradley Hamilton added 15 markers.

The 6-2 Lions were again paced by Jonathan Bertovich with 28 points. and Sam Osborn adding 11 points.

Heartland will visit Leetonia next Tuesday evening.

BADGER BOYS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH JOSH UPSHIRE

KINSMAN OH- We are honored to welcome Badger into the YSN family! It’s an exciting time over there with their boys basketball program. With a ton of height in the front court, and skill in the back court the Braves will be a tough cookie to crack. Badger will open the season Tuesday November 30th at home against East Palestine.

Head coach Josh Upshire was kind enough to take the time to join Anthony Hartwig and Ty Bartell to talk about his program and preview the season. They talk about the culture coach Upshire is trying to build, the Badger community support, and so much more. Episode 1 of Coach’s Corner with Josh Upshire is live!

TIGERS FALL VICTIM TO A HEARTBREAKER

STRUTHERS OH- The Springfield Tigers took on Berkshire Badger on Monday night for the district semifinal at Bob Cene Park. The ballgame was scoreless through 7, but only one inning of free baseball decided the game.

The ballgame was a pitching dual between Youngstown State University baseball commit Mitchell Seymour and JT Bergmeier. Both starters went 7 innings, with Bergmeier giving up just 2 hits and 0 runs, while Seymour gave up just 3 hits while striking out 14 batters.

The ballgame went into extra innings but would end in the 8th frame. Berkshire Badger took advantage of 3 walks in the inning, as Blake Jenkins hit a walk-off sacrifice fly to win it 1-0.

The Tigers season comes to a close, while Berkshire Badger will take on Mooney for the district title on Wednesday at Bob Cene Park.

BLUE JAYS BREEZE THROUGH BADGER

NORTH JACKSON OH- Jackson Milton hosted the Badger Braves on Wednesday night in the first round of the OHSAA girls playoff bracket.

The Blue Jays got off to a great start in the first quarter holding Badger to just 4 points in the first quarter. Jackson Milton had a 22 point lead at the half as they led 32-10.

Badger came out and outscored Jackson Milton for the first time in the third quarter 12-9, but still trailed by more than 15 heading into the final 8 minutes. The Blue Jays held on to the big lead and ended up winning the first game of the tournament 56-31.

The Blue Jays advance to round 2, as they will host Windham on Saturday at 1 PM. Check out YSN for the live broadcast.

IRISH BREAK AWAY FROM BADGER

YOUNGSTOWN OH- Ursuline got back to work Monday night with a dominant win over Badger 72-44. The Irish hadn’t played in over 10 days.

Alayna Smith led the Irish with 19 points. Senior Anisah Moorman was right behind her with 18 points. Cara McNally was also in double figures with 13.

Ursuline will travel to Kennedy Catholic on Wednesday to try and stay in the win column.

RESERVE BRINGS BADGER DOWN

BERLIN CENTER OH- Western Reserve would not be denied Wednesday night as they battled their way to a four set victory over Badger (25-22 25-14 21-25 25-13).

Dani Vuletich had a great night finishing with 21 kills to lead the Blue Devils offense. Gianna Paris was key to the Reserve attack as she set up 30 assists. Paris also played good defense collecting 9 digs. Alyvia Hughes put in a double double with 11 kills, and 10 digs. Lisa Eichert also finished with a double double totaling 11 kills, and 15 digs.

Western Reserve will advance to the district championship where they’ll travel to Wellsville. That match is scheduled for Saturday at 1:00.
