BAIRD BROTHERS BASKETBALL BIG DOGS OF THE YEAR ANNOUNCED

EAST PALESTINE, OH- The votes have been cast, and nearly 200,000 tallies have been sorted.  The Your Sports Network Executive Team has weighed in, and today things become official with the crowning of the Baird Brothers Basketball Big Dogs of the Year.

For the girls, it’s a second straight title for Beaver Local’s Jenna Riccardo.  The 2018-2019 winner took a big junior year and shattered the glass ceiling becoming the only player in recent memory to collect over 1000 points AND 1000 rebounds in a career!  Riccardo will take her outstanding career to West Liberty to play for the Lady Hilltopper’s this fall.

For the guys, Boardman’s Derrick Anderson led the Spartans to an unbelievable season, while joining the 1000 point club in front of the home fans.  Anderson also made headlines averaging 22.7 points per game while raking in 4 assists and 5 rebounds per contest.  The all-around all-star is still looking at his options to continue his career and education at the next level.

Congratulations to this year’s winners on yet another accolade, and championing local sports on and off the court.  You’ve represented yourselves, your family, your school, community, and teams exceptionally well throughout your careers.

BEAVERS CAGE EAST PALESTINE ON SENIOR NIGHT

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH- The Beavers defeated the Bulldogs by 40 on Saturday night to honor the 5 seniors (Luke Chetock, Josh Hilditch, Tate Joseph, Jaden Kiddey, and Logan Reed) the right way.

The first half was competitive, as the teams exchanged leads early in the game. The Beavers were able to create a little separation to end the first quarter and hold on to that going into halftime. After the break, the Beavers came out firing, getting transition bucket after transition bucket to open the fourth quarter with a 30 point lead. Coach Nick Miller then took the seniors off the floor one by one as the fans gave them a standing ovation. The Beavers won by the final score of 91-51. They improve to 12-8 heading into OVAC play.

Luke Chetock drained 5 three’s as he finished with 28. Logan Reed had a night as well, scoring 21 on the night, as Josh Hilditch chipped in 10 of his own.

Jonathan Bertovich came into the game averaging 26 a game and did not disappoint, scoring 32 on the night.  Payton Elliott contributed to the Bulldogs scoring summary with 8.

The Beavers will play an away OVAC game this upcoming Tuesday, while East Palestine will face Lowellville.

BEAVER LOCAL COMEBACK FALLS SHORT AGAINST CADETS

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH- The Beavers comeback bid against the Cadets fell short on Tuesday night as they suffered a 46-36 loss to Linsly in an exciting game.

The first half had the same sequence multiple times, as the Cadets would jump out to an early lead and stretch it multiple times, but Beaver Local would not go away, making mini runs to stay in the contest. Luke Chetock made a couple of crucial buckets to end the first half, as the score was 20-14 in favor of Linsly after 16 minutes of action. The third quarter was all Linsly, as they forced a few turnovers and got fast-break buckets to go up big to start the 4th quarter. The Beavers stormed back though, rattling off 10 straight points to cut the deficit from 16 to 6 halfway through the final quarter. The Cadets finished the game from that point on, as Caleb Murray delivered a couple of daggers to seal the deal and hand Beaver Local the home loss. The Beavers fall to 9-7 with tonight’s result.

BEAVERS TAME TIGERS AT HOME

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH- The Beavers picked up a nice home victory over the Wellsville Tigers by the final score of 59-54 in a back and forth affair.

Beaver Local jumped out to an early 10 point lead, but a late bucket by Darrion Suggs and a three pointer from Luke Green cut the deficit to 5 to end the first. Wellsville found a groove after that, taking the lead for the majority of the second quarter, as Justin Wright and Troy Carter found a couple buckets each in the post to find a 26-23 lead at the half.

The Beavers came out of the locker room swinging and took the lead right back and stretched it to 8 entering the 4th. Wellsville went on a couple of runs and pulled to within one possession multiple times in the final quarter, but couldn’t finish the job as the Beavers took home the dub. They improve to 9-6 on the campaign.

Luke Chetock and Nathan Barber each had 16 points to lead Beaver Local. Logan Reed would chip in 9 points.

Darien Suggs led the Tigers with 18 points while Luke Green finished with 14.

SENIOR NIGHT STUNNER; BL RUNS PAST FERRY

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH- It was a perfect opportunity for the Beaver Local Senior Girls on the Basketball Team to send a lasting memory to their OVAC Rivals, Martins Ferry, on their way out.  Senior Night has the tendency to create distractions for the home team each season, but the Lady Beavers used their night as a marker of the last four years with a 50-44 victory on Monday.

Senior, and Baird Brothers Big Dog of the Valley winner- Jenna Riccardo cashed in for 26 points and 12 boards while handing out 6 assists in the victory.  Madison Cline also enjoyed her Senior Night with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  Danica Taylor had 6 caroms on the night as well, while Brooke Briggs had 3 tallies.

Beaver Local (8-7) will now turn their attention to Oak Glen on Thursday on the road to try and keep the momentum flowing.

POTTERS DEFEAT BEAVERS TO TAKE SEASON SWEEP

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH- The Potters defeated the Beavers 64-59 on Tuesday in a classic rivalry game. The stands were packed, with not a single seat empty, and the expectations for the game were high.

Interesting events transpired to start the contest. The Beavers students were given noisemakers that they used on Potters offensive trips. On the third trip down the floor, the referees stopped the game to have the PA announcer ask the students to stop with the noisemakers, at which point, the whole Beavers side of the stands began clapping loudly to disrupt the Potters. The Beavers took advantage, having a 19-15 lead after 1. The second quarter had less clapping, but just as much action-packed basketball, as Beaver Local had the lead 31-30 heading into the half.

The third quarter was a heavyweight bout, as the team traded blow after blow. The Potters came out of it with a 4 point lead. Tre’shawn Jackson hit a couple of uncontested 3s to start the 4th and give the Potters nearly all the momentum. They took it and ran off with the 5 point victory. The Beavers drop to 7-6, while the Potters improve to 7-2.

For East Liverpool, Tresean Jackson had 26 tallies while Brennan O’Hara spotted 20 for the Potters.

The Beavers were led by the trio of Luke Chetok with 15, Josh Hilditch with 13, and Logan Reed with 11 points.

The next broadcast on YSN Beaver Local is this Thursday night when the Lady Beavers host Indian Creek at 7:00.

FROM DOWNTOWN; BEAVER LOCAL RUNS PERIMETER TO BEAT EDISON

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH- The Beavers used the three-point shot en route to their 79-67 home victory over the Edison Wildcats. This was another tale of 2 halves.

To start the game, both teams went on run after run as Edison held the lead after one. Then, the teams traded baskets on each end as the Beavers took a 1 point lead into the locker room. After that, things started to click for the home team. The Beavers outscored Edison by 10 in the 3rd quarter and didn’t look back. Deep threes in the 4th from Josh Hilditch, Logan Reed, and Skylar Pappas helped put the game out of reach for the Wildcats and the Beavers collected their 4th win of the season.

On the stat sheet, Nathan Barber came close to a double-double (7 rebounds). In the past 2 games, Barber fell 2 boards shy of the feat and came into the night looking to finally accomplish his goal. He was on pace for it, as he had 5 boards and 9 points after the first half.

Barber will look to try it again as the Beavers (4-2)  return to action Friday at Wellsville and will return to YSN December 30, as the host Indian Valley on the Network with an approximate tip-off time of 7:00.

BEAVER LOCAL DEFENDS HOME COURT; BLASTS BUCKEYE LOCAL

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH- The Beavers won in dominating fashion by defeating the Buckeye Local Panthers by a final score of 60-26. It was all Beavers for 32 minutes.

The Beavers jumped out to an early lead and didn’t look back. It was 19-3 by the end of the first and things didn’t change much after that. Feeding Jenna Ricardo and Eli Kolkowski was the gameplan for the Beavers and it worked to perfection. A couple of threes here and there also helped, as they took a 28 point lead into halftime. The score was 48-24 after 3 quarters and then we some bench players play significant minutes, such as Jensen Britt and Kitty Chen. The Beavers took a 34 point victory home to start the week off right.

Madison Cline took the reigns for Beaver Local with 16 points and 9 boards.  Riccardo filled the stat sheet with 14 points, 7 rebounds, 8 steals, and 4 assists, while Kolkowski had a double-double with a dozen points and 10 rebounds.

If you’re looking for more action from the Red and White, the Beavers boys basketball team will host the Edison Wildcats Tuesday on YSN Beaver Local with an approximate start time of 7:00-7:30.

BEAVERS FIGHT BACK TO BOUNCE BUCKEYE

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH- The Beavers erased a 10 point deficit to get back to .500 on the season. This game had it all, from the long runs to the exchanged baskets, and then the comebacks.

Buckeye Local jumped out to a 6-0 lead with a couple of threes, then the Beavers scored 10 unanswered. Both teams exchanged baskets for the rest of the half, and the Panthers took a 6 point lead into the locker room. They then controlled the third quarter. They went up by 10 for the majority of the quarter. It was a 7 point difference entering the fourth.

The Beavers then stormed back.

A collection of offense pulled them to within 2 a couple of times, and even tied the game at one point, but couldn’t take the lead. Down by three with about 2 minutes left, Luke Chetock banged 2 threes home to give the Beavers the lead, and they kept that for the rest of the game. The Panthers were forced to foul and the Beavers smartly gave the ball to Chetock to send him to the line. He finished with 16 points as the Beavers leading scorer and takes home the G. Burbik Farms player of the game honors, as the Beavers took home a 66-55 victory.

The next broadcast will be next week on YSN Beaver Local when Edison comes to town.
