GARFIELD BASEBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH MICHAEL PAES 3-19-25

GARRETTSVILLE OH- In a recent interview with YSN, Garfield G-Men baseball team head coach Michael Paes discussed the expectations for the upcoming season. The G-Men, who have been close to winning both league and district championships in past years, are aiming to build on their success.

Coach Paes emphasized the importance of character development, stating that the primary focus is on becoming “better people,” both on and off the field. Despite the departure of some key players, he remains optimistic about the team’s prospects. Paes highlighted the necessity for new players to step up and deliver consistent performances in pitching, batting, and fielding roles. The team faces a demanding schedule in the competitive MVAC gray tier, complemented by a challenging non-conference lineup against strong local teams. Leadership is crucial within the team, as Paes believes it fosters a family-like atmosphere where shared goals drive everyone.

As the G-Men strive to take the next step towards securing a championship title, Coach Paes expressed gratitude for his dedicated coaching staff and the Garfield administration for their continued support. Stay tuned for more updates on the Garfield G-Men as they pursue their goals this season.

TEAM BEFORE MIKOS

CANFIELD, OH- To be a senior in high school, and to already understand how to be a teammate, and understand servant leadership will put you ahead of the pack upon graduation.  That’s exactly what coaches have come to expect with South Range senior, Brandon Mikos.

Mikos landed at SRHS his sophomore year, and in his words “was welcomed in with open arms” to the Raider family.  Brandon is a multi-sport athlete with a focus on baseball and basketball- but has emerged as a young man who will always put his family, team, and school before himself.

The senior has managed to help the resurging Raider basketball team make a nice run in a very difficult conference that features teams like Poland and Struthers.  While helping his team to a mid-season winning streak, Mikos also maintains his outstanding performance in the classroom with a 3.9 GPA, and has his goals to play baseball at the next level.

We sat down with Brandon Mikos to discuss his senior year, the Raider program, his teammates, as well as his future on this week’s South Range Player Profile.
