LIBERTY HAS PRODUCTIVE HOMECOMING

LIBERTY OH- The Liberty Leopards and the Campbell Memorial Red Devils met Friday night for a battle in the MVAC Grey Tier. The Leopards came in winless, and Campbell had just one win on the season. Both teams have had their struggles in the first half of the season, but they were both trying to turn things around for the back half of the year.

Liberty came into week six with a whole lot of questions. Friday night they found a few answers, as they came out and had their best game of the season by far. Led by the momentum from Homecoming and the introduction of the 2022 Hall of Fame class the Leopards came out with fire in their eyes and never looked back. They would get huge boosts from the special teams and defense as both sides would collect a touchdown during the game.

The Red Devils offense would continue to struggle this week, but with the help of their special teams they would tie their season high for points on the season with 21. Turnovers severely stunted their progress in the game and led to them getting behind in this game.

Campbell would start the game with the ball, but they would go three and out and punt the football to Quez Patterson who would take it from his own ten-yard line and flip the field as he took it into the redzone on a seventy-five-yard return. On the first play from scrimmage for the Leopards John Lard would punch in a fifteen-yard touchdown. On the ensuing kickoff the Red Devils would respond as Mihali Koullias who take it ninety yards for a Campbell touchdown. They weren’t done with special teams yet as after one kickoff touchdown there would be another. Quez Patterson would match the previous touchdown with ninety yards of his own for a Leopards touchdown.

Everything after that would go the Leopards way as Campbell QB would fumble and throw two interceptions that put his squad behind. Liberty’s Quez Patterson would be named player of the game thanks to his efforts on special teams and defense, as to go along with the great returns he would also grab a pick-six and another interception that came on the final play of the game.Liberty found their first win of the season as they move to (1-4) and are now also fourth in the MVAC Grey Tier. Liberty will head on the road in week seven as they will play Champion. Campbell falls to (1-5) as they continue to struggle this season. They will head on the road and take on the one loss Garfield G-Men next week.

LIBERTY LEAVES CAMPBELL AS THE VICTORS

CAMPBELL OH- The Liberty Leopards and the Campbell Memorial Red Devils came into the night about as even as could be. They were placed next to one another in every single ranking. The back-and-forthbattle between the two proved that this was no fluke. Thursday’sgame saw the Leopards take a game in four sets for the first time this season. They were led throughout the night by their Libero in Gabby Ranalli who continued to make the effort plays all night long.

In set one of the night the Leopards were the first to jump out to a lead. They were led by Gabby Ranalli and Demi Watson who helped hold on to the small lead for the entire set before those effort plays came back in and Liberty closed out the set on a late run to win 25-16.

Set two was the best of the night as the two teams traded the lead more than five times and Liberty was looking like they were going to close out the set once again after Chloe Fleps earned a handful of aces to set them up 20-16. But then Abigail Diaz of Campbell would absolutely let loose, playing every ball perfectly and pulling her team on a 9-2 run to steal the set away from the leading Leopards 25-22.

Campbell hasn’t experienced many close games like this on the season and after the second set they seemed a little out of energy after the big comeback. Liberty once again led by Ranalli, and this time joined by some excellent play by Mia Parker would dominate the third set. They allowed just eight points and ran away with it 25-8.

Set four and Campbell got a second wind and once again made things competitive. The lead continued to switch hands with the score being tied for the majority of the set. Liberty took a late lead as they lead 23-20, but the Red Devils put together an epic final run and pushed the game back to tied. But then Lexi Muck, who had put together a stellar night at the net collecting block after block but had been relatively quiet compared to her previous outings closed out the game. From 23-23 Lexi Muck would fly above the net to spike the ball down hard to give the Leopards the lead and then earn the game winning block to win 25-23 over Campbell in the fourth set.

Kelly Barley and her Leopards improved to (4-4) on the season and picked up their second win in conference play. The Leopards will be in action three times next week as they play host Warren G. Harding on Tuesday, Champion on Wednesday, and Crestview on Thursday. Campbell drops back to (4-5) on the season after picking up their fifth loss in conference play. They will travel on the road for two of their three matchups next week as they play on the road against Newton Falls on Tuesday, Youngstown East at home on Wednesday, and once again on the road in Brookfield.

RED DEVILS FINISH STRONG

CAMPBELL OH- Wednesday night volleyball action had the Campbell Memorial Red Devils (2-3) defending home court against the (3-2) Sebring Trojans who are in the midst of a three-game road stand. This was a non-conference exhibition between members of the MVAC Scarlet and Gray Tiers.

Set one was led entirely by the Red Devils who jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead before Sebring got on the board. Sebring was led most of the night by their kills leader No. 1 Blake Thomas who had some absolutely lethal spikes on the night. Thomas helped lead her squad back into a competitive set one that stayed around a three-point score difference after the initial Red Devils lead. Campbell would find the momentum around the midway point and cruise home to victory in set one 25-13.

Set two was much closer as Sebring jumped on the board quickly scoring the first point, but they were answered immediately by Campbell who quickly returned the favor. This was a seesaw battle in set two in which neither squad was able to seize momentum. The two teams kept within one or two points and forced it to a tied game at 23 each before Campbell made some great plays to close out the second set of the night.

Set three was what would be called a volleyball clinic as Campbell could do no wrong being led by their kills leader No. 12 Kendall Brunn who not only added on to her kills total in this third set but was dominating with blocks at the net as well. Campbell would go up by a dozen before Sebring had their first point of the set and from their it was lights out. Campbell would allow just one more point in the set and would take home their third and final set of the night 25-2 over Sebring.

Both teams moved to (3-3) on the season after this game. All of Campbell’s wins this season have come on 3-0 wins at home. They will play host to Champion Thursday night at 6:30PM. Sebring will finish off their three-game road stand against Mineral Ridge Thursday night at 6:30PM.
