WARREN OH- In the world of high school sports, it’s a rare sight to witness a freshman stepping onto the varsity field and immediately leaving an indelible mark on a high-level team. However, that’s precisely what Maylee Nadaud has accomplished for the Champion soccer team.

Maylee’s arrival has been nothing short of a revelation for Champion, and she has played a pivotal role in their unbeaten season. On the pitch, she is a relentless force to be reckoned with, and her remarkable statistics speak volumes about her contribution to the team’s success.

As we delve into the numbers for the 2023 season, it becomes evident just how influential Maylee Nadaud has been. She has impressively notched an incredible 26 goals, showcasing her striking ability with each precision shot. But her impact doesn’t stop there. Maylee has also proven her playmaking prowess by amassing an impressive 22 assists. When you do the math, it’s clear that Maylee Nadaud has had a hand in a total of 48 goals for Champion this season, a staggering feat. Her 22 assists also earn her the distinction of being the team leader in that category.

One cannot help but be astounded by the remarkable synergy between Maylee and her teammates on the field. Her ability to not only score goals but create opportunities for her fellow players has been instrumental in Champion’s impressive 131 total team goals this season.

It’s worth noting that the Nadaud family legacy is well-represented on the Champion soccer team, with Maylee having a guiding presence in the form of her senior sister, Mia Nadaud. The bond between the Nadaud sisters extends beyond family ties and into the realm of teamwork and mentorship. Mia has played an invaluable role in nurturing Maylee during her first season, imparting her wisdom and experience to ensure Maylee’s smooth transition to the varsity level.

As the Flashes gear up for a crucial Regional Semifinal matchup on Tuesday against Norwayne at Boardman High School, Maylee Nadaud’s remarkable journey is far from over. CHAMPION HANGS ON TO WIN A DISTRICT TROPHY

NILES OH- Champion’s girls’ soccer team continued their impressive undefeated streak this season by claiming the district championship in a tightly contested battle against Poland, ultimately triumphing with a 2-1 victory.

The match showcased the exceptional skills of Champion’s players, with Grayson Knoske and Taylor Kuhn providing the crucial goals that secured their district championship. Savanna Lefkowitz and Maylee Nadaud played vital roles in setting up these scoring opportunities, each earning an assist to their credit.

The closely-fought game kept fans on the edge of their seats as Champion showcased their resilience and determination. Poland put up a valiant fight, and their lone goal demonstrated their unwavering spirit.

With this hard-fought victory, Champion now advances to the Regional Semifinals, where they will face a new challenge in Norwayne.

FLASHES ONE WIN AWAY FROM DISTRICT TITLE

WARREN OH- In an electrifying girls’ soccer showdown, Champion left no room for doubt, advancing to the district championship with an emphatic 6-1 triumph over Lakeview.

Maylee Nadaud was the undeniable star of the match, leaving her mark with a brilliant hat trick, showcasing her remarkable goal-scoring ability. Adding to Champion’s offensive prowess, Grayson Knoske notched a pair of goals, while Taylor Kuhn and Jackie Fields each made valuable contributions with one goal and one assist. The team’s attack was in high gear, overwhelming Lakeview’s defense.

Defensively, Allison Henderlight held her ground in the goal for Champion, making three crucial saves to preserve her team’s lead and secure the win.

With this impressive victory, Champion now sets its sights on the district championship game. They will face the second-seeded Poland, promising a thrilling battle between two formidable teams. The district championship showdown is scheduled to take place at Niles on Thursday at 6:00, and fans can expect an intense and fiercely contested match as both teams vie for the title.

NEWTON FALLS SURVIVES CRAZY ENDING

WARREN OH- In an exhilarating conclusion to their season, Newton Falls found themselves on the brink of a wild finish against Champion. When the dust settled, they emerged with a hard-fought 19-14 victory. The opening quarter saw Newton Falls take the lead as Carter Rapczazk delivered a perfectly placed 35-yard touchdown pass to Nick Moss, establishing a 7-0 advantage. The second quarter added to their momentum, with Rapczazk taking charge once again with a 12-yard touchdown run, extending their lead to 13-0. Rapczak’s defensive contribution couldn’t be overlooked as he intercepted a pass, granting the Tigers possession. However, Champion responded with a fumble recovery by Zach Morris, giving them a chance to counter.

In the third quarter, Rapczak showcased his versatility by executing a spectacular 43-yard touchdown run, pushing Newton Falls further ahead with a score of 19-0. The fourth quarter, however, saw Champion making a spirited comeback as Christian Williams found the end zone with a 20-yard touchdown run, closing the gap to 19-7. Williams continued his impressive performance with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Tony Smith, making it 19-14 and setting the stage for a thrilling finish.

Champion mounted a last-ditch effort, as Ethan Ray executed a blocked punt, giving them hope. The game’s dramatic conclusion came with Williams securing an interception, sealing the 19-14 victory for Newton Falls. REBELS SURGE PAST FLASHES

 COLUMBIANA, OH – The stage was set for an exciting matchup between the Crestview Rebels and the Champion Golden Flashes. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the two teams clashed under the Friday night lights, eager to prove their worth on the gridiron.

Early in the first quarter, Colin Cope, the Rebels’ reliable kicker, lined up for a 28-yard field goal attempt. With precision and poise, he sent the football soaring through the uprights, putting Crestview on the scoreboard at 3-0 with 4:47 remaining in the quarter. The Golden Flashes weren’t to be outdone, and they answered back with a field goal of their own, making it 3-3. The game was shaping up to be a tightly contested battle.

As the clock ticked down towards the end of the first quarter, the Rebels’ offense came alive. Max Hawkins, took a handoff and bulldozed his way into the end zone with a powerful 4-yard touchdown run. With just 25 seconds left, Crestview now led 8-3.

The second quarter brought even more excitement. Christian Williams powered through the Rebels’ defense with a 1-yard touchdown run, giving Champion the lead, 10-8 with 9:24 left in the half. The Rebels, however, weren’t about to let the game slip away. They responded with a touchdown of their own, taking the lead 14-10 with just 44 seconds left in the half.

Max Hawkins, who showcased his incredible speed and agility. He broke free on a 49-yard touchdown run, putting Crestview ahead 23-10 with 1:05 left in the third quarter. The fourth quarter continued to be dominated by the Rebels. Max Hawkins added to his impressive night with a 4-yard touchdown run, making the score 30-10 with 11:41 remaining. The Golden Flashes were desperate to mount a comeback, but their hopes were dashed when Shane Bacon, a tenacious defensive player, pounced on a fumbled ball in the end zone for a touchdown. With just 4:13 left in the game, the Rebels held a commanding 37-10 lead.

As the final seconds ticked away, the Crestview Rebels celebrated their hard-fought victory. It was a night to remember, with Max Hawkins leading the charge and the defense sealing the deal. The Rebels had shown their mettle and emerged victorious under the Friday night lights.

REBELS STILL REIGN ON TOP

COLUMBIANA OH- In a display of sheer dominance, the Crestview volleyball team secured their eighth consecutive conference championship with a resounding sweep of Champion, prevailing with scores of 25-11, 25-4, and 25-11. The Rebels showcased their prowess on the court, leaving no doubt about their place atop the conference hierarchy.

The match was highlighted by exceptional performances from Crestview’s key players. Grace Auer played a pivotal role with 15 kills and 16 assists, achieving a remarkable double-double. Auer’s versatility and ability to contribute both offensively and as a playmaker were on full display.

Abbey Emch was another standout for Crestview, tallying 12 kills, 2 blocks, and an impressive 5 aces. Her dynamic presence at the net and from the service line created significant challenges for the opposing team.

Katie Lissi added to the offensive firepower with 4 kills, while Emily Downey anchored the defense with 10 crucial digs. Lainy Auer showcased her exceptional skills as a setter, recording 18 assists and 11 digs to secure her own impressive double-double. Lydia Campbell contributed 2 kills and 1 block to the winning effort.

With this victory, Crestview not only clinched their eighth consecutive conference championship but also extended their unbeaten streak. The Rebels now set their sights on their next challenge, a conference matchup against Garfield, as they continue their quest for success this season.

CHAMPION STIFFLES CAMPBELL MEMORIAL

CAMPBELL, OH – It was a crisp, autumn evening, and the excitement in the air was palpable as the Champion Golden Flashes prepared to take on the Campbell Memorial Red Devils. The stadium was packed with eager fans, their cheers echoing through the chilly night. The first quarter had been a defensive battle, with neither team managing to penetrate the other’s end zone. But as the second quarter began, the game’s momentum was about to change in a dramatic fashion.

With just over three minutes remaining in the second quarter, the Golden Flashes’ defense stepped up in a big way. The Red Devils, trying to mount a drive and break the deadlock, were moving the ball steadily downfield. But the Champion defense had other plans. As Campbell Memorial took a run off the edge, defensive lineman Michael Sanders exploded off the line of scrimmage with a burst of speed that left the offensive line stunned. With a perfectly timed swipe of his massive hand, Sanders knocked the ball out. The stadium gasped in unison as the football tumbled towards the ground. Without missing a beat, Connor McDermott pounced on the loose ball, scooping it up with a single fluid motion. The crowd erupted in cheers as he turned and sprinted downfield with the pigskin cradled in his arms. His teammates raced alongside him, providing crucial blocks and clearing a path to the end zone.

With every step, it seemed as though McDermott was fueled by the energy of the roaring crowd. He streaked downfield, running 40 yards with the football. The end zone beckoned, and as he crossed the goal line, he spiked the ball in celebration.

With the crowd still buzzing, the Golden Flashes lined up for the extra point attempt. The snap was clean, the hold was perfect, and the kicker’s boot was good. The extra point sailed through the uprights, and Champion now led 7-0 with just three minutes remaining in the second quarter.

Despite a valiant effort, the Campbell Memorial Red Devils found themselves struggling to gain any momentum. The Golden Flashes’ defense continued to stifle their offense, forcing turnovers left and right. By the end of the game, the Red Devils had committed a total of five turnovers, a testament to Champion’s tenacious defense.

ITS A RECORD BREAKING NIGHT FOR CAMPBELL

WARREN OH- In a historic night for Campbell volleyball, the team etched their names in the annals of the program’s history with a remarkable victory over Champion. The four-set battle culminated in a program-record seventh conference win, solidifying their dominance with set scores of 25-20, 25-19, 21-25, and 25-17.

Carla Ramirez Ortiz was the standout star of the night, delivering a record-breaking performance that will be remembered for years to come. She not only set the school record for most assists in a game but also surpassed the career record with a staggering 1982 assists to her name. Her ability to orchestrate the team’s offense was pivotal in securing the victory.

Kendall Brunn shone brightly on the offensive front, recording an incredible 22 kills with a remarkable hitting percentage of .396. Her ability to find the right angles and deliver powerful attacks was a constant source of trouble for the Champion defense.

MiLeena Williams added to the offensive firepower with 15 kills, while Cyra Cross contributed 12 kills, showcasing the team’s depth in attacking talent. Williams and Brunn each recorded 2 blocks, highlighting their presence at the net.

Carla Ramirez Ortiz’s all-around contribution extended beyond assists, as she notched 4 aces to her name. MiLeena Williams added 3 aces to the mix, keeping the pressure on Champion.

In the backcourt, Cyra Cross demonstrated her defensive prowess with an impressive 21 digs, followed by Angeliz Diaz with 17 and Carla Ramirez Ortiz with 15.

KUHN ADDS ANOTHER RECORD AS CHAMPION CONTINUES TO DOMINATE

GARRETTSVILLE OH- In a display of pure dominance, the Champion girls’ soccer team continued their remarkable season by trouncing Garfield with an emphatic 9-0 victory on a memorable Tuesday night. The Champions showed once again why they are a force to be reckoned with, leaving their opponents in awe.

The scoring machine that is the Champion team was firing on all cylinders, with multiple players making significant contributions. Grayson Knoske led the charge with two goals and two assists, displaying her finesse on both ends of the field.

Taylor Kuhn, however, was the undeniable star of the night. With an astounding five goals and two assists, Kuhn’s performance was nothing short of spectacular. In addition to her incredible feat, Kuhn also etched her name in the Champion program’s history books by breaking the career goals record. Her 101 career goals, alongside program records for career assists and career points, cement her status as a true legend of Champion soccer.

Mia Nadaud and Maylee Nadaud each added a goal and an assist, contributing to the team’s resounding victory.

Her remarkable field vision and soccer IQ have consistently allowed her to make the right decisions on the field, making her a driving force for her team. Recently, she achieved a monumental milestone by becoming the program’s all-time leader in career assists, a testament to her playmaking abilities and the impact she has had on Champion’s soccer legacy.

In the 2022 season, Kuhn’s performance was nothing short of spectacular. She showcased her versatility as a player, netting an impressive 30 goals and contributing 17 assists. Her excellence on the field did not go unnoticed, earning her the distinction of being named to the 1st Team All-State and 1st Team All-District. These accolades highlight her exceptional skills and leadership within the sport.

As the 2023 season unfolds, Taylor Kuhn continues to shine brightly on the soccer pitch.
