LIONS NOT EASILY TAMED

UNITY OH- Heartland Christian put up eight runs in the second on its way to an 11-1 victory over Chaney on Monday. Heartland’s offense in the inning was led by Seth Walker, Jake Walker, Drew Gault, Jake Kling, Brett Walker, and Walker, all knocking in runs in the inning.

The Lions got on the board in the first inning when Walker singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

Heartland put up eight runs in the second inning. Their offense in the inning came from walks by Walker and Gault, singles by Walker and Walker, by Walker, and a double by Kling.

Luke Rafferty took the win for Heartland. The righty allowed one hit and one run over two innings, striking out one. Nate Garzanich and Walker entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Kling started the game for the Lions. The righthander allowed zero hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out three and walking zero

Heartland saw the ball well today, racking up nine hits in the game. Garzanich, Kling, and Walker all had multiple hits for Heartland Christian School Varsity. Walker, Kling, and Garzanich each collected two hits to lead.

MATHEWS SHINES AGAIN IN LIONS COMEBACK

COLUMBIANA OH- Junior guard Madi Mathews set a new scoring record for the Heartland Christian Lions in a 58-52 victory over the visiting Warren JFK Eagles.

Mathews broke her own scoring mark, nailing 35 points in the game. Heartland was down 41-37 heading into the final frame but outscored the Eagles 21 -11 to gain the win.

The Lions improved to 5-14 for the year. Mathews’ teammate Jordan Webb dropped in 12 points to help aid the victory.

JFK’s Julia Toth had a big night for the Eagles scoring 26 points.

HEARTLAND CHRISTIAN BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH JOSH SCOTT

COLUMBIANA, OH- It’s been a long road on the way to success for Josh Scott and the Heartland Christian Lions, but it’s not one they’ve taken for granted.  In a year like we’ve never seen before in 2020, no games are guaranteed, opponents are also changing to just fill in schedules, it’s the strong who will not only survive- but thrive.

Coach Scott has equipped himself with a great staff, and an outstanding roster that can strike anywhere on the floor, and have already made big buckets in big moments.

We had the chance to catch up with the Head Lion about his team, and their 9-3 start, and what it means to be part of the Heartland Christian Community.  So sit back, relax, and enjoy the first edition of the Coach’s Corner for the Heartland Christian Boy’s Basketball Team, on Your Sports Network.

PRIDEFUL VICTORY, HEARTLAND CHECKS LADY CLIPPERS

COLUMBIANA, OH- A crosstown rivalry is renewed with the emergence of the Heartland Christian volleyball program.  The Lady Lions were on display again on Wednesday with a hard-fought victory over Columbiana 21-25, 20-25, 27-25, 19-25.

For the Lady Clippers, Grace Witmer led the team with 14 kills, 9 digs, 9 points, 8 assists and a pair of aces.  Madison Moser also contributed with 11 points, 6 digs, and a four-spot in the aces and kills column.  Tori Long shoveled out 15 digs, while Maci Linhard had 24.  Big Dog of the Valley Nominee, Marissa Makosky, had 16 helpers, 9 points, 7 digs with 3 aces.

Columbiana now looks to host United on Thursday.
