Not bad for a rookie.

A RACE TO THE FINISH

YOUNGSTOWN, OH – It takes a lot of mental toughness when it comes to excelling at the sport of Cross Country, not only do you have to be in pristine physical shape, but you also have to be able to have the courage inside you to be able to push yourself when your body doesn’t want to go any further. Jarett Gordulic and Rachel Klucinec each embody what it takes to be successful at such a difficult sport. Jarett and Rachel are both coming off great performances at the Canfield Fairgrounds where they were able to place Top 50 in their events!

In this week’s dual-Player Profile, the two Cross Country standouts had the opportunity to discuss what it takes to be good in the sport, some of the things that they do to prepare themselves for events, what it’s like to be a student-athlete at Ursuline, and more!

Chagrin Falls, OH-  Boardman Sophomore David D’Altorio raced to a 1st place finish in a time of 16:19 against 288 varsity and junior varsity runners at this year’s Gibas Invitational held at Kenston High School. The Spartans placed 5th overall in the 13-team field.

“We really did not perform to the best of our ability as a varsity group today,” said Boardman Head Coach John Phillips, “cross country is a grind and it’s important to learn from races that do not go well and build from it. RUN FOR FUN; EP’S CROSS-COUNTRY TEAM KEEPS ROLLING

EAST PALESTINE, OH- It’s not Friday Night Lights, it’s not high-octane violent spikes of a volleyball, in cross-country, it’s about grace, finesse, endurance, and breaking down walls that keep you from a finish line.

As in life, this sport is about You versus You.  While all student-athletes deserve coverage, many times it’s the (quite literally) off the beaten path sports that don’t have a light shined upon them.  As you know with YSN, we try our best to provide coverage for as many of our school’s sports as we can.  Today we shine a light onto the seniors of East Palestin’s “XC” squad.

The YSN Voice of East Palestine, Tim Figley caught up with the East Palestine Cross-Country Team about their season, challenges, and obstacles they’ve faced in 2019.
