QUAKERS TAKE TO THE SKY AGAINST WARRIORS; MARCH TO PLAYOFFS

SALEM, OH- In their final game of the 2019 regular season, and the seniors final game at Sebo Stadium, this year’s version of Salem Quaker Football went out in style with a 46-27 victory over rival West Branch.

The Quakers seized control early on, recovering a fumble on the Warrior’s 3rd play from scrimmage and finishing the drive with points on a 10-yard scamper by freshman quarterback Jackson Johnson. The Quaker offense would strike again when Johnson, alluding the rush, stepped up in the pocket and had the presence of mind to stay behind the line of scrimmage and find Blaize Exline for a 34-yard touchdown to make it 12-0.
From that point on Salem didn’t look back. Every time it seemed like the Warriors were going to find a way to get back in the game, someone in the red and black would step up to make a play. Two such Quakers were Niko Walter and Exline, who both had huge days receiving in the win. Walter has 12 catches for 205 yards with touchdowns of 70 and 62 yards, while Exline brought in 9 passes for 129 yards and a TD.
And those were just two of the guys who contributed to Johnson’s staggering passing numbers. Anthony DiMuzio and Bradlee Kitts also had touchdowns for the Quakers. On the night Johnson was 27-36 for 381 yards and 5 touchdown passes (one touchdown run). In just three starts, Johnson has thrown for 13 touchdowns.
Not to be outdone by the aerial assault, senior Cade Campolito turned in another impressive performance with 14 carries for 95 yards and an electrifying 28-yard touchdown in the third quarter, dragging 4 Warriors across the last five yards into the end zone.
The Quakers wrap up their regular season 8-2 (4-2 in the EBC) and 5th in Division IV Region 13. This will be the third time in 5 years the Quakers have qualified for postseason play. They will travel to Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy next Saturday night to take on the 7-3 Royals. Kick-off is 7 p.m. so listen live at YSNLive.com/Salem.

QUAKERS PICKUP DUB, EYE THE PLAYOFFS

SALEM, OH- In a game that, for a little over 3 quarters, was a little closer than The Salem faithful would have liked, the Quakers were able to pull away late and get a win over Akron Kenmore-Garfield Friday night 32-18. As the Quakers continue to look towards a potential week 11 and beyond, this victory goes a long way in the computer rankings.

Salem was once again led by freshman quarterback Jackson Johnson, making his 2nd career start. On the night he would go 20-28 for 195 yards and 4 touchdowns against 2 interceptions. Against a tough front for the Golden Rams which made running the ball difficult, the Quakers relied on Johnson who threw 2 touchdown passes to both Niko Walter and Anthony DiMuzio. Salem was also helped by the D who forced 3 turnovers on the game, including an interception late by Dillon Monroy which ended a Golden Ram drive.

Salem moves to 7-2 on the year and sets up a big week 10 matchup against rival West Branch at home at Sebo Stadium next Saturday 11/2 at 7:00.

SALEM, OH- The Salem Quakers bounced back after 2 straight losses in weeks 6 and 7 in a big way with a 42-13 win over Minerva. The Quakers exploded out of the gate with 22 first-quarter points and never looked back on their way to their 6th win of the season.

Freshman quarterback Jackson Johnson made his 1st start of his career for the injured Niko Walter, and the offense didn’t miss a beat. Scoring on the 3rd play from scrimmage when Johnson took the snap and ran 13 around the left and into the end zone. The Quakers would tack on 2 more first-quarter scores on passes of 19 yards to Jax Booth and 2 yards to Anthony DiMuzio to make it 22-0 after one.

The 2nd quarter was more of the same as the Quakers would put up 2 more scores both TD passes. The first being a 19-yard toss from the freshman quarterback to the guy he was stepping in for Niko Walter, then to his backfield mate Cade Campolito, who took a swing pass 23 yards for a score to make it 36-0 at the half.

In 2 quarters that were dominated by offense, the Quaker D also had a strong 1st half, pitching a shut-out and surrendering only 18 yards by the Lions. Joey Watson and Tyson Swiger had 1st half fumble recoveries for the Quakers. The starters on both sides would make way for the 2nd stringers for the entirety of the 2nd half.

On the night, Johnson was 14-16 for 169 yards and 4 scores, completing passes to 7 different receivers on the night. Cade Campolito turned in another solid performance with 132 yards on only 7 carries, breaking off 3 runs of over 30 yards.
