LADY REBS REBOUND TO BOUNCE GIRARD

GIRARD, OH- The Lady Rebels started the 4th quarter with 5 consecutive points to tie the ballgame, and ultimately continued their momentum to complete the comeback. The Rebels defeated the Indians 39 to 37.

Leading the way for Crestview was Krista Perry, who had 15 points, and was 3 for 5 at the free-throw line. Right behind her was Tanner Hoffer with 11 points. The Rebels will next face Lisbon on Thursday, while the Indians play Jefferson Area on Thursday at 7 p.m.

LADY FALCONS REMAIN PERFECT AGAINST MAYFIELD

NORTH CANTON, OH- The Austintown Fitch Girls Basketball Team defeated Mayfield 56-39 Sunday in the Holiday Hoopla Tournament played at Walsh University.

Fitch was led by Daria Williams with 16 points. Ashley Mickey and Emma Bartlett had 10 points each, Chelsie Wheeler had 9, Mya McNevin had 7 and Caitlyn Corbett added 4, respectively.

The Lady Falcons move to a perfect 3-0 and will face Massillon Jackson Saturday, December 7th at home in the Falcon’s Nest.

URSULINE FALLS SHORT TO OPEN SEASON

DOYLESTOWN, OH- The Ursuline Lady Irish opened up their season on the road at the Chippewa Classic where they were able to put up points, but it just wasn’t enough to take down the host team as Chippewa prevailed 53-44.

For the Lady Irish, Anisah Moorman led the way with 13 points and 6 assists.  Cara McNally dialed up a 3-ball on her way to 8 points, and Paris Gilmore had 10.  Rachel Fabry and Alayna Smith added a pair of assists apiece as well.

Ursuline(0-1) will host Columbiana this week on Thursday, the game will be streamed on YSN.

ROCKETS BLAST PAST COWGIRLS

YOUNGSTOWN, OHThe Lady Rockets of Maplewood led from start to finish to beat the Chaney Cowgirls tonight 45-29. The Cowgirls were plagued by turnovers and poor free-throw shooting early to dig a hole they could not dig out of. 

 In the first quarter, the Lady Rockets dominated and cruised to an early 14-2 lead. The Lady Rockets were led by Baylie Starcher, Emily Kholmorgan and Marissa Ventura all with 4 points in the first quarter with Maddie Murray adding another two. Cazhia Jackson had the only two for the Cowgirls in the 1st quarter on a pair of free throws. 

The Lady Rockets outscored the Cowgirls 12 to 8 to finish the half. The Cowgirls got a little more momentum as Jackson hit a 3 so did Terris May and 2 free throws by 6ft 5in Freshman Makayla Beckett to bring the total for the half for the Cowgirls to 10 first-half points. Ventura really heated up for the Lady Rockets in the 2nd quarter with two quick 3 pointers to open the quarter and a layup for 2 later in the quarter to half 12 points by herself by half. Abbey Nay had a two-point bucket and 2 free throws for the other 2 points in the second quarter to bring the halftime score up to 26-14 in favor of the Lady Rockets.

The 3rd quarter was back in forth as the Lady Rockets only outscored the Cowgirls 11-9 in the quarter. Murray had two 3 pointers and Ventura had another 3 as Hannah Gaylog added another 2 to cap the scoring in the 3rd quarter for the Lady Rockets. Jackson had a 3 point field goal and a free throw for 4 points in the quarter Jaylyn Day got her only 2 points of the night in the quarter Antanasia Crockett, had a two-point bucket and free throw to have a 3 point quarter.  The Score after three was the Lady Rockets 37 the Cowgirls 19.

The 4th quarter was the best one for the Cowgirls as they outscored the Lady Rockets 10-8 in the quarter led by Beckett’s 4 points on two turnaround shots in the lane. May added a 2 point bucket so did Ja’Tavia Jackson who got her first and only two points of the night. Crockett added another 2 free throws to cap the scoring for the Cowgirls for the night. Kholmorgan who had not scored since the 1st added a 3 in the 4th Murray had a 2 point layup.  Ventura added a free throw and Gaylog had another 2 point bucket to cap the scoring for the Lady Rockets. To make the final score 45 to 29 in favor of the Lady Rockets. 

Ventura led the lady Rockets with 15 points on the night while Cazhia Jackson led the Cowgirls with 9 points. The Cowgirls (0-2) take on Struthers next Monday at home. Join John Bolino for all the action on YSN.

SALEM OPENS SEASON WITH WIN OVER LADY DRAGONS

SALEM, OH- For the past two seasons, Kyla Jamison has been making a name for herself in the Salem lineup, and now this year she is looking to etch it in the books.  The Quaker junior led her team in the season opener with 17 points and 8 rebounds in a convincing 81-26 victory over Niles on Monday.

Adding to the stat line for the Lady Quakers was Krista Barley with 11 points and 4 rebounds, Abby Perry had 10 points and 4 steals, Jaden Hamilton with 7 and Casey Johnson had 9 points, respectively.

Salem returns to action on Friday at 2:30 at Chippewa High School in Doylestown, OH.

CARDINALS TOO MUCH FOR WILDCATS TO OVERCOME

CANFIELD, OH- The Struthers girls basketball program tipped off their season Friday night with a big road test traveling to Canfield. The Wildcats fell 61-39.

Canfield had a monster first quarter leading 26-7. Struthers could not recover from the early deficit.

Emma Elia led the Lady Cats with a strong 15 point performance. Chloe Neider added 8.

The Wildcats return to action Monday as they open their home schedule hosting Champion.

LADY BEAVERS STORM BACK TO CLAIM OPENING NIGHT WIN

CARROLLTON, OH- The Beaver Local Lady Beavers we’re down almost the whole game to open the season Friday night in Carrollton. However, the Beavers came back to shock Carrollton 50-45.

The Beavers trailed 39-32 entering the fourth, but outscored the Warriors 18-6 to close out the game.

Senior, Jenna Riccardo, led the way for the Beavers with a double double. She finished with 24 points, and 12 boards. Elizabeth Kolkowski also had a double double with 17 points 10 rebounds.

The Beavers return to action Wednesday traveling to Crestview.

 

URSULINE TRIUMPHANT ON THE ROAD AGAINST SALEM

SALEM, OH- The Lady Quakers dropped their home opener 2-1 to Youngstown Ursuline. The Lady Quakers opened the scoring with a goal by Abby Perry.

After Ursuline put two on the board in the second half the Lady Quakers played an intense 20 minutes in an attempt to equalize.

While the Lady Quakers were able to generate multiple opportunities, they came up short in finding the back of the net. Sam Moore recorded 7 saves in goal. The team returns to action Monday 8/26 at home against Howland. Kickoff is at 7 pm.

SALEM GIRLS CHIP PAST LEETONIA

VALLEY GOLF COURSE- Salem’s Girl’s Golf Team (3-1) chipped their way past the Lady Bears on Monday- 208 to 261.  Finding the green early and often was Salem’s Kelly Hutton who shot a 48 on the round.  The Lady Quakers also had a pair of 53’s shot by Sloan Rudibaugh and Lexi Miller, Emma Brown shot a 54.

For Leetonia, Haleigh Brook led the way with a 57.
