BODY OF A LION, WINGS OF AN EAGLE, HEART OF A SPARTAN

BOARDMAN OH-  The Boardman Spartans have a date in The District Semi-Finals, thanks in large part to the man, the myth and legend himself, Griffin Widrig.  A Griffin in mythical terms, is a beast with the head of a lion and the wings of an eagle. In baseball terms, it is just a beast! One that can fly through a lineup with ease and demonstrates themselves as The King of The Mound!  Widrig is all that and more, as The Spartans senior right-hander has been a mainstay of The Boardman Varsity Baseball Team for the better part of 4 years.

With a composure that is rarely replicated to the degree that Griffin has, it is no wonder why Coach Gabriel has so much trust in one of his many seniors.  Pitching two consecutive shutouts against The Rival, Austintown Fitch Falcons in the season. The first one to help lock up The All-American Conference (AAC) for Boardman. The second one came in The Sectional Final, one that helped #16 seed Boardman defeat #4 Austintown to advance to Districts!

This is one interview, you do not want to miss! As The Running Point gang get their first chance to talk with Griffin.  Highlighting the season so far, what’s to come, some future goals and so much more! You can catch The Spartans and Griffin on the field next, as they take on #6 seeded Uniontown Lake on Tuesday, May 24th in Canton. Can’t wait till then? We have you covered! With this edition of Player Profile, with the man himself, Griffin WIdrig! Exclusively on YSN!
