WILDCATS LET OUT FRUSTRATION ON HUBBARD

STRUTHERS OH- Struthers came into their Friday night matchup against Hubbard with a burning desire to erase the memory of last week’s tough loss. Their determination and resolve were on full display as they secured an emphatic 41-14 victory over their opponents.

The first quarter opened with a bang for Struthers as Devin Braham sprinted down the field for an electrifying 72-yard run, crossing the goal line at the 11:17 mark. This explosive play set the tone for the Wildcats, who took an early 7-0 lead.

Struthers continued their offensive assault in the opening quarter when Najier Howard bulldozed his way into the end zone with a 4-yard run at 5:35, extending their lead to 14-0.

Hubbard, refusing to be left behind, responded with determination. Garland Warren punched in a 2-yard run with just 1:01 remaining in the quarter, putting Hubbard on the scoreboard at 14-7.

However, Struthers wasted no time in regaining their dominance. In the closing moments of the first quarter, Jason Dukes broke free for an explosive 68-yard run, widening the gap to 20-7, although they missed the subsequent PAT.

The second quarter saw no let-up from Struthers. Dukes continued to shine, connecting with Kendis McLeod on a 52-yard touchdown pass at 11:06, pushing the lead to 27-7.

AC Carter joined the scoring frenzy with a 4-yard touchdown run for Struthers, even though they missed the PAT, extending their lead to 33-7.

The third quarter continued to be a showcase for Struthers’ offensive prowess. AC Carter found the end zone once more, this time with a 6-yard touchdown run, and the Wildcats converted the 2-point attempt, amassing a commanding 41-7 lead.

Hubbard rallied in the fourth quarter, with Alex Hackwelder executing a 1-yard touchdown run through a quarterback keeper, making it 41-14.

SOUTH RANGE AVOIDS EAGLES COMEBACK

CANFIELD OH- In a thrilling and highly contested volleyball match, South Range managed to stave off a monstrous comeback by Hubbard, ultimately securing victory in a hard-fought fifth set. The final scores of 25-23, 25-15, 19-25, 24-26, and 15-2 showcased the relentless determination and competitive spirit displayed by both teams on the court.

Anna Toy emerged as a standout player for South Range, delivering an outstanding performance with 15 kills and an impressive 16 digs, earning her a well-deserved double-double. She also contributed with 2 aces, adding to her impact on the match. Madison Dado provided crucial firepower with 10 kills and 8 digs, reinforcing South Range’s offensive and defensive efforts. Olivia Meli showcased her attacking prowess with 11 kills and 2 aces, demonstrating her ability to make a significant impact on both ends of the court.

POLAND SHOWCASES THEIR DOMINANCE

HUBBARD OH- In a commanding display of football prowess, Poland High School delivered a resounding 53-0 victory over Hubbard in conference play.

Poland’s performance was nothing short of dominant, racking up 16 first downs and showcasing a formidable ground game with 33 rushes for 144 yards. The offensive standout of the game was Dom Pagano, who displayed both his passing and rushing abilities. Pagano completed 11 of 16 passes for 170 yards, throwing two touchdowns with zero interceptions. He also made his mark on the ground, carrying the ball 11 times for 42 yards and adding two rushing touchdowns. In total, Poland’s offense amassed an impressive 276 yards.

The defensive side of the ball was equally impressive for Poland, forcing three turnovers and holding Hubbard to a mere 16 rushes for just 7 yards. Hubbard’s offense struggled to find its footing, managing only 16 total yards throughout the game.

LAKEVIEW CONTINUES DOMINANT CAMPAIGN

CORTLAND OH- Lakeview’s volleyball team continued its impressive season with a convincing three-set victory over Hubbard. With this win, Lakeview improved its record to an impressive 10-1, showcasing their dominance in the region.

The match unfolded with Lakeview in complete control, winning each set with commanding scores: 25-17, 25-15, and 25-13. Lakeview’s performance was marked by exceptional teamwork and individual contributions that sealed their victory.

Addy Allen and Mara Schmader were instrumental in the service department, racking up crucial points for their team. Allen contributed 11 service points, while Schmader added 10. Reagan Price and Mara Schmader also displayed their serving prowess with 3 aces and 2 aces, respectively.

Lakeview’s attacking game was led by Reagan Price and Molly Stuart, who combined for an impressive total of 27 kills. Price led the team with 17 kills, while Stuart added 10, showcasing their ability to find the gaps in Hubbard’s defense.

Mallory Mailach played a crucial role as the team’s setter, tallying 33 assists, ensuring that her teammates had the opportunities they needed to score. CLIPPERS TAKE BATTLE WITH HUBBARD

COLUMBIANA OH- Columbiana welcomed Hubbard on Tuesday preparing for a battle between two of the area’s best golf teams. The Clippers came out on fire as they defeated the Eagles 154-160 at Valley Golf Club on Tuesday. Rocco Crawford and Anthony Hall each took the low score honors as the Clipper duo each posted a round of 37. Teammates Trenton Hall and Blake Unger also carded very solid rounds in the victory as each posted 40.

Hubbard’s Colten Smith led the way for the Eagles, carding a 38. Gate Rusnek and Matt Johnston recorded 39 respectively while Garret Brojkovich added a 44.

NILES OVERPOWERS THE EAGLES

NILES, OH – The Niles Red Dragons (3-1) have a NE8 Player of the Year candidate in senior running back Antuan Gardner and a stout defense to match.

Gardner totaled 263 yards of offense and two touchdowns and Niles’ defense held the Hubbard Eagles (3-1) to just 95 total yards in the game, the lowest total Niles has held the Eagles to since 1986.

After starting the game slow, Niles would move the ball at will in the second quarter while totaling 24 points in the period. Gardner punched the first touchdown of the night in from 1 yard out just four seconds in and it wasn’t until over 8 minutes later that Antony Budak would score his only touchdown of the night from a yard out. Gardner would score less than a minute and a half later and Niles would add an additional field goal as time expired.

Coming out of the break, Hubbard would start with terrific field positioning thanks to a great return by Baron Reynolds-Penny. Alex Hackwelder would find the endzone just three and a half minutes later to bring the Eagles to within three scores. Unfortunately for Hubbard, that’s where their scoring would end.

The Niles defense would force three interceptions on the night, one of which came in their own endzone to keep Hubbard’s comeback bid at bay. Defensively, the Red Dragons would go the entire game without a penalty, a stark contrast from the defensive unit on the opposite sideline, who granted multiple first downs in key moments on offsides penalties. The strong defensive effort paired with a monster effort from Gardner gave Niles their first win over Hubbard since 1995, snapping a 16-game losing streak, 27-6.

Niles: Starting off conference play 1-0, the Red Dragons will look to remain unbeaten in the NE8 next week when they travel to Cortland for a matchup with the Lakeview Bulldogs (3-1).Lakeview will come into the matchup off of a 28-21 loss to the defending Division 5 state champion South Range Raiders.

Hubbard: After dropping their first game to the Red Dragons since 1995, the Eagles will return home for a matchup with the undefeated Poland Bulldogs (4-0). Poland has taken three of the last four matchups against Hubbard.

GIRARD GETS A FIGHT, BUT PREVAILS AGAINST HUBBARD

HUBBARD OH- In a captivating volleyball clash, Girard continued their perfect run in the Northeast 8 (NE8) with a hard-fought four-set victory over Hubbard. The scores of 25-16, 25-17, 17-25, and 25-20 attest to the intensity and competitiveness of the match, with Girard emerging as the triumphant force on the court.

Girard’s offensive powerhouse, Bree Latell, delivered a remarkable performance with a staggering 27 kills. Her dominance at the net was undeniable, consistently finding ways to put the ball away and secure crucial points for her team. Her contributions were instrumental in Girard’s success.

Nico Cochran displayed her versatility with 13 important kills, showcasing her ability to make an impact both offensively and defensively. She also contributed as a setter, with 43 assists, ensuring her teammates had the opportunities they needed to shine.

Alexis Pieton made her presence felt from the service line, accumulating an impressive 23 service points. Her consistent serving played a crucial role in Girard’s control of the match. HUBBARD FIGHTS THROUGH THE TIGERS

HUBBARD, Ohio – Prior to tonight’s game, Hubbard and Howland had met 44 times since their inaugural matchup in 1930. Over the past 90 years, both teams had exactly 22 wins a piece, drawing the all-time series to a draw.

Only one team could emerge with the series lead, and the Howland Tigers (0-3) had early aspirations of upsetting the Eagles on the road. Forcing a three and out on the opening drive of the game, Howland would take over with favorable field positioning. After a pass-interference call on third down would extend the Tigers drive, Howland would convert a few plays later from just nine yards out when John Perry connected with Gabriel Gamichia.

Hubbard would respond on the ensuing drive with a five-minute drive traversing ninety yards before Alex Hackwelder would score his first touchdown of the night from six yards out, knotting the game at seven. The teams would trade scoreless possessions before swapping touchdowns prior to the half. Both Perry and Hackwelder would find paydirt on the ground for their teams.

Exiting the break, Howland would put together an eight minute and fifty-five second drive that would result in no points. Key sacks would swing momentum in the corner of the Blue and White with 3:05 left in the third quarter, and just 4 minutes later, Alex Hackwelder would punch in his third rushing touchdown of the night. The junior quarterback would score once more in his career night, a thirteen-yard scamper to put the Eagles ahead by two scores and the game on ice. Hubbard secured the series edge with a 28-14 victory.

Hubbard: For the fourth straight season, Hubbard has gotten out to a 3-0 start. The Eagles will look to continue their perfect beginning of the year next Friday night as they travel to Bo Rein Stadium for a matchup with the Niles Red Dragons (2-1). Hubbard has won 16 straight matchups against the Red Dragons, dating back to 1996.

Howland: While the Tigers drop to 0-3 with the loss, the three defeats have all come to quality teams. Unfortunately for Howland, the road doesn’t get much easier in the coming weeks. While the Tigers will faceoff with a winless Boardman Spartans (0-3) team next week, the Spartans have played tough competition in their own right and are not to be underestimated.

EAGLES OFFENSE BREAKS LOOSE

HUBBARD, Ohio – Coming off a lackluster offensive performance a week ago, the Hubbard Eagles (2-0) came out guns blazing in their week 2 matchup against the Greenville Titans (0-1).

On the opening drive of the game, Hubbard would march 77 yards down the field on 12 plays in 5 minutes and 25 seconds. Alex Hackwelder would cap the drive with a 5-yard keeper to take an early lead.

After forcing Greenville to go three and out on their opening drive of their season, Hubbard would put together another impressive drive. Starting on their own 10, the Eagles would get as far as the Greenville 17 before Alex Hackwelder’sthrow to the endzone was picked off by opposing quarterback Nick Solderich.

Hubbard would need just one play to get the ball back as a last second shovel pass from Solderichwas intercepted. Hubbard would capitalize on the Titan’s mistake just three plays later when Garland Warren would find paydirt from 1 yard out.

The Eagle’s dominance on both sides of the ball would persist throughout the night. Hubbard would score twice more in the opening half, all while the defense wouldn’t allow a single first down. In fact, Hubbard wouldn’t allow the Titans to move the chains until their final drive of the night.

Greenville’s offense would only accrue 65 yards of total offense on the night, while Hubbard would eclipse 200 yards via the air and ground for a total of 443 yards. With over 32 minutes in possession of the ball, Hubbard was able to walk away with an easy 35-7 victory.

Greenville: For the second year in a row, Greenville will start with a loss at the hands of the Eagles. It’ll be back to western Pennsylvania for the Titans next week as they’ll play host to the Wilmington Greyhounds (0-1).

Lakeview’s standout players showcased their skills in various aspects of the game. Mallory Mailach was a force to be reckoned with, contributing 15 service points and 6 aces. Reagan Price displayed her offensive prowess with a staggering 24 kills, while Mailach also orchestrating the team’s plays with 37 assists. Ali Parise made her presence felt at the net with 2 blocks, and Molly Stuart’s 13 digs helped anchor the team’s defense.

With this impressive win, Lakeview continues to exhibit their prowess and cohesion on the court. Their next challenge takes them to Austintown Fitch on Thursday. On the other side, Hubbard aims to bounce back as they prepare to host South Range in their upcoming match.
