BOARDMAN FALLS TO LAKE

BOARDMAN, OH- In a hard-fought matchup, the Boardman girls’ basketball team faced a challenging encounter against the undefeated Lake Blue Streaks, ultimately succumbing to a final score of 68-50. The game unfolded with intense action, and despite the Lady Spartans’ efforts, the Blue Streaks proved to be a formidable opponent.

Lake seized control early, establishing a 16-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Undeterred, the Lady Spartans rallied in the second quarter, outscoring the Blue Streaks and narrowing the gap to 30-22 at halftime. However, the third quarter became a pivotal point in the game as Lake extended their lead by 15 points, creating a challenging scenario for the Spartans to overcome.

Despite a valiant effort down the stretch, the Lady Spartans were unable to bridge the gap, and Lake’s lead proved insurmountable. Sarah Bero emerged as a bright spot for Boardman, achieving her second double-double of the season with an impressive performance of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Mackenzie Riccitelli contributed to the scoring with 10 points, while Sam Duble showcased her shooting skill with three 3-pointers, totaling 9 points.

M.C. Werth and Mikayla Rivera each added 6 points to the scoreboard, contributing to the Spartans’ offensive efforts. Jocelynn Torres recorded 4 points, and Ava Freeborough rounded out the scoring with 2 points. Notably, Tori Strines, Janessa Prisby, Emma Terlesky, and Lilly Ison provided valuable minutes for the Spartans.

Despite the setback, the Lady Spartans now stand at 2-1 on the season and are poised to rebound in the upcoming United Way Classic at Poland on Saturday.

CARDINALS DELIVER BIG BLOW TO UNIONTOWN

Uniontown, OH, Ohio – The Canfield Cardinals Girls Lacrosse team brings home another road victory against a highly competitive Uniontown Lake team, 12-6.

Ally Wilson led the Lady Cardinals with 4 goals. Sarah Grohovsky and Emily Wilson scored 3 goals apiece. Ashleigh has and Elena Martin rounded of the Lady Cards with 1 goal apiece.

Canfield’s goalie Karley D’Apolito had 4 saves.

The Canfield Lady Cardinals will face the Youngstown Mooney Cardinals at Bob Dove Stadium on Wednesday April 27th. The Canfield Boys Lacrosse team will face the Youngstown Mooney Boys Lacrosse team immediately following the girls’ game.

LEOPARDS DRY UP LAKE

UNIONTOWN OH- Louisville hit the road on Wednesday to take on Uniontown Lake as the regular season begins to dwindle down. Now the Leopards know their tournament path, every game is a chance to sharpen their tools to prepare for a tournament run. They did just that on Wednesday as they dominated Lake 48-26.

The Leopards were led by freshman Courtney Barwick who hit a pair of threes on her way to 14 points. Brooke Haren was also in double figures with 10 points on the night. Aubrey Thorne added a strong 7 to the Leopards scoring.

Louisville is scheduled to host Northwest on Friday night at 5:30.

LAKE SHOCKS WILDCATS IN CANTON

CANTON OH- Struthers came into the Eric Snow Classic in Canton with an 11-1 record and high hopes. However, they were cut down by a 4-13 Lake team 71-56.

Struthers led 19-18 after the first frame, but Lake used a huge second quarter to storm ahead of the Cats, and never looked back from there.

The upset moves Struthers down to 11-2. They were led by Trey Metzka with 14 points.

Struthers looks to bounce back as they return to league play Tuesday hosting Lakeview.
