LEETONIA COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH ROB ARMENI

Tradition-rich Leetonia High School looks this season to first-year Head Coach, Rob Armeni.  In a small school like Leetonia, it’s the details that count, and Armeni knows and admits that the motivation and tools are there for success.

Culture is key, and for this young team, can mean the difference between a win, and loss.

Sit down, and let’s get to know Coach Armeni, as our Tyler Hoffman sits down for Episode 1 of Leetonia Coach’s Corner presented by G. Burbick Farms.

HULEA TO LEAD LEETONIA

Leetonia, OH- Paul Hulea has agreed to take over the Head Football Coach duties for the Leetonia Bears.  The Leetonia School Board will make things official on January 11th at the Board Meeting.  Hulea is best known for his State Championship year with Poland (15-0), and the time he spent locally with Crestview, and most recently as an assistant with the Struthers Wildcats.

We were able to get a quick quote from Leetonia Athletic Director, Ed Ridgeway on his new football coach.  “We are excited to get a person of this caliber, and his record speaks for itself,” Ridgeway said.

The Bears are coming off a tough year, where they were unable to win a game (0-10), but with the experience of Hulea, the future looks very bright in Leetonia.

No matter the gift Santa brings, it certainly appears Christmas has come early in Bear Country!

Rockets Offense Explode Bears Hopes of Week 1 Win

The three-headed monster of Rotz, Mince and Ballone helped the Lowellville Rockets soar past the Leetonia Bears 41-0 in week 1.  Behind the Rockets 3 running-back deep I-Stack formation, the Rockets ran all over the Bears defense for 4 scores.  Minch also returned a punt for a TD and Rotz threw for a 24 yard fade route to Hvisdak for his lone TD pass of the evening.

Leetonia just couldn’t get footing on offense and were held to under 100 yards of total offense.  Injuries to Roman Ferry, and teammates Brock Simpson and Derrick Grossen held 3 of the Bears primary offensive weapons out during separate points of the game to hinder the chances of scoring their first points of the 2017 campaign.

With majority of starters returning, it will be up to signal caller Brock Simpson, and the return of Roman Ferry to set the tone on offense in 2017. Simpson passed for nearly 600 yards, and 5 Touchdowns last year, and is looking to add on in 2017.
