VALLEY PUTS ON A SATURDAY NIGHT SHOW

CAMPBELL OH- An epic week five of high school football was capped off with style and power by the Valley Christian Eagles who continued their undefeated war path as they enforced a running clock for the entirety of the second half against Lisbon before taking home the win 45-18. Player of the game went to Ve’Shun Gurley as he pulled down to Randy Moss style catches and took them both to the endzone.

Lisbon had their struggles offensively for the majority of the game as the rush from the larger Valley Christian continued to blow through the line with relative ease and forced the Lisbon offense to minimal gains all night long. Lisbon did score two defensive touchdowns as Hunter Dailey intercepted a pass from Jon’Trell Mixon and returned it all the way early in the third quarter. Dailey would come up again in the fourth quarter as a fumble by the second unit of Valley Christian would open up a hole for Hunter Dailey to grab a scoop and score for their final points of the night.

Valley Christian through their first four plays from scrimmage on the night had three touchdowns, including two that came on 91-yard plays. Valley Christian had touchdowns from just about every single offensive player on the night. Their run blocking just proved too much for Lisbon all night long as they were able to do just about anything they wanted to.

Injuries have continued to hurt Lisbon along their three-game losing streak as they now move (2-3). They are going to look to get healthy over the next week as they prepare for their fourth home game of the season as they take on the Bulldogs of East Palestine (1-4). Valley Christian now (5-0) will continue to storm the beaches of the EOAC as they will play host to the (0-5) Leetonia Bears next Saturday.

SHE’S JUST BEING MILEY

MCDONALD OH- when you talk to most varsity level athletes, they’ll tell you about all the time they’ve put in since they were little to get the varsity level they are at now. For McDonald freshman Miley Titus, she picked up volleyball in the eighth grade. Yet she has quickly climbed the ranks and become an immediate impact on the varsity team.  Her quick ride is not to say she hasn’t put in the work to get what she got. She entered club volleyball as soon as she got a love for the sport, and the exposure to top competition has done wonders to grow her skills.  Her natural athletic abilities also help. Miley is quick, and instinctive. Those are tremendous traits for a varsity level libero. Does she have room to grow? Yes. But truest us when we say, once you watch her live her energy and passion for the game, you won’t be able to wait until you see her again.

Miley took the time to sit down with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig to talk about her development to the varsity level. She also discusses the feeling of her first varsity match, what skill has been the hardest for her to grasp, and so much more. McDonald is at the top of the MVAC, make sure to get to know them with the latest McDonald Volleyball player profile, only on YSN.

MCDONALD GETS WIN IN KEY MVAC MATCHUP

BERLIN CENTER OH-

On a wild Tuesday night of premier volleyball matchups across YSNs airwaves. There was a renewed rivalry, like there always seems to be when these two teams lock horns. Talking about The McDonald Blue Devils and The Western Reserve Blue Devils. Two programs so similar in the success they have had, that even the team name is not altered between them.

The one notable difference amongst the McDonald and Western Reserve volleyball programs is the age. Western Reserve has had a long tradition of being a successful team. Capturing a winning season in five consecutive years and eight total winning seasons in the last nine years. McDonald, on the other hand, is entering the fourth year of the program under head Coach Mike Klockner. Getting four wins better each season since the birth of the team in 2019, going 8-15 in that campaign.

Going into Tuesday evening, the highlight players came out to play! With girls like Angelina Cappabianca, Alyvia Hughes and Lisa Eichert leading the way for Reserve as a group of strong swingers. McDonald responds with a trio of Megan Klockner, Gianna Constantino and Maria Rasile!

Both teams went into the match fired up, as the first two sets were determined by a difference of just 2 points in each of them. The McDonald Blue Devils were able to capture Set 1, needing extra points to do so before following it up by grabbing a commanding lead in Set 2. However, Reserve was able to battle back and even take the lead at one point! McDonald stayed mentally tough, unwavered, they were able to grab another close set to go up 2-0 on Western Reserve. By Set 3, the confidence and momentum was heavily in the visitors court, as McDonald was able to keep the high energy and capture the match victory in straight sets. Miley Titus was a difference maker in the Tuesday matchup, neutralizing the heavy swingers of Western Reserve at various times throughout the game, making McDonald that much tougher to score against.

McDonald has made the adjustments to continue improving and continue competing in a very tough Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference (MVAC). Prior to Tuesday night’s battle, McDoanld had only captured a single match victory in their history, losing 15 consecutive sets to Western Reserve. That first win came last year on September 16th, where McDonald would defeat Reserve 3-2. The Tuesday night victory would mark the first time that McDonald has beaten Western Reserve in straight sets, continuing the development of the program.

McDonald (5-0) will stay in the conference as they hit the road for Atwater on Thursday, September 1st to face off against Coach Franks’ Waterloo Vikings (2-2). Needing to keep pace, Reserve (4-2) will also play a MVAC conference matchup against The Lowellville Rockets (1-3) on Thursday.

Set Scores

McDonald 27 – 25 W.R.

McDonald 25 – 23 W.R.

McDonald 25 – 15 W.R.

Stat Leaders (McDonald)
