ALWAYS BET THAT BUCCIARELLI WILL SHOW UP

CANFIELD OH- Canfield High School’s volleyball team faced a challenging transition this season, having graduated 11 seniors from the previous year. Amid this period of rebuilding and searching for new leadership, senior Isabella Bucciarelli emerged as a beacon of inspiration and teamwork on the court.

Isabella Bucciarelli exemplifies what it means to be a valuable teammate. If teamwork was a statistic, she would undoubtedly lead the area. Canfield, this season, faced more adversity than most teams due to a string of injuries. In the midst of this turmoil, Bucciarelli became the glue that held the team together until everyone returned to full health.

Throughout her career, Bucciarelli has demonstrated incredible versatility, playing multiple positions on the floor. Her adaptability has made her one of the most versatile and dependable players on the Cardinals’ roster, a testament to her commitment to the team’s success.

Let’s take a look at her impressive stats for the 2023 season, reflecting her all-around contribution to the team:

Isabella Bucciarelli has already notched up 58 kills, displaying her ability to score crucial points for Canfield.  With 106 digs (averaging 1.7 per set), she’s proven herself as a tenacious defender, always ready to dig out opponents’ powerful attacks.  Bucciarelli’s presence at the net is felt with 20 blocks, making her a formidable force in both offense and defense. Her 20 aces demonstrate her expertise in serving, which often disrupts the opponent’s rhythm. She has contributed significantly with 90 serve receives, showcasing her reliability in maintaining control during rallies.

As Canfield regains its full lineup and health, the team, led by Isabella Bucciarelli, is set to make a strong push in the postseason. Her dedication, versatility, and leadership have undoubtedly played a pivotal role in helping Canfield weather the storm of injuries and aim for success on the volleyball court in 2023.

RYAN RUNS INTO THE BIG STAGE

WARREN- OH, JFK has seemed to have found a diamond in the rough with freshman Andrea Ryan. Ryan in her first year has tallied an astonishing 53 goals with 3 assists! Scoring 53 goals in a season is an incredible mark, but doing it as a freshman is unheard of. Ryan has made an immediate impact as the eagles last year finished the season 4-9, in Ryan’s first season she has led her team to a league title and a first round bye in the playoffs as JFK finishes 12-3-1.

 The eagles will play their first playoff game Wednesday 10/18 against Cardinal Mooney. Ryan states “This game will be tough, a lot of girls on Mooney I’ve played with in club soccer my whole life”. It definitely will be a good matchup and one we’ll be keeping an eye on!

YOU GOTTA KNOW, DON’T SLEEP ON BEAU

BELOIT OH- For the West Branch Warriors, the departure of star quarterback Dru DeShields left a gaping hole in the roster, and the big question on everyone’s mind was: who would step up to fill those shoes? The answer came in the form of a determined young senior, Beau Alazaus. In his first year as a quarterback, Beau seized the opportunity to lead his team with an emphatic “yes.”

Throughout his football journey, Beau always held the belief that he had what it took to become QB1. It’s a dream that starts in the backyard, throwing the football to oneself, and for Beau, that dream became a reality when he saw the chance to take the reins of the West Branch offense. Like all first-year quarterbacks, nerves were part of the equation, but Alazaus didn’t let them dictate his performance.

As the leader of the Warriors, Beau Alazaus has shown immense growth and composure on the field. Week after week, his stats tell the tale of a talented and hardworking quarterback: 172 completions on 252 attempts, 2,206 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and just 4 interceptions. He maintains an impressive average of 276 passing yards per game and boasts a stellar completion rate of 68%. His quarterback rating stands at 121.9, reflecting his efficiency and ability to make smart decisions under pressure. And let’s not forget, he’s not just a passer; he’s a dual-threat quarterback with four rushing touchdowns to his name.

While her statistics speak volumes, it’s her emotional and energetic presence on the court that sets her apart.
