ROCKETS BLAST OFF TO VICTORY

CAMPBELL OH- Even though the Campbell Memorial Red Devils had a loss last week to Western Reserve, the team got momentum especially with the early lead into the game.  They were looking to build upon that Tuesday in hopes of getting their first win of the season.  However, there was a team waiting for them in the Lowellville Rockets with a record of three and two as the Red Devils were looking for their first victory at home this season.  However, the Rockets would blast off early on with a 4-0 lead and never look back into the game.  The closest Campbell got to cutting the lead down was at ten points as they would be down at the end of one 20-10 and at the half 33-22.  Even though they were down, all they had to do was eliminate the early turnover mistakes and get back on track to winning this game.  Unfortunately, that did not happen as Lowellville pulled away winning by the final of 76-41.

Lowellville Stats

Sophomore Anthony Lucente led the Rockets with 18 points, eight of those being inside the paint.  Vinny Ballone another Sophomore finished with 17 points, getting six points on two’s and a three.  Senior Johnny Michaels finished with 15 points, while senior number 23 Cole Bunofsky showed off his Michael Jordan ability inside the paint with 12 points.  Kenton Peterson finished with seven points, hitting a free throw and getting three two-pointers.  Brady Bunofsky, Kyle Miller, Ryan Hvisdak, and Justin Beeson combined for seven.

Campbell Stats

With Gabe Brunn out due to injury, Junior Skevos Kouros stepped up with 12 points while fellow Junior Christian James had 11.  The next leading scorer was Collin Michaels shooting two for two on free throws and was good at the fast breaks scoring all his other six in the paint.  Michaels finished with eight points.  Zach Luciano finished with six points while both Joe Zanni and Harry Echevarria combined for four.

RESERVE TAKES BATTLE OF THE DEVILS

BERLIN CENTER OH-  After the upset loss to Jackson Milton last Friday, the Western Reserve Blue Devils were looking for a bounce back win on Senior night, hosting another devil team in the Campbell Memorial Red Devils who were hungry for their first win of the season as they have been close a couple times, but now it was time to finish.  The first quarter seemed to have been a little shocking again as Campell got out to a big 11-0 run before Western Reserve got their first buckets of the night thanks to a Ryan Gordon layup.  At the end of the first, it was 17-15 Red Devils.  However, that little upset possibility did not last long as Western Reserve was 39-28 at the half and never looked back as they pulled away quickly, beating Campbell 75-54, moving back to .500 with a three and three record.

Stats: Ryan Gordon finished with 26 points hitting two three from behind the arc, Noah Klasic had 10 points in the paint along with 25 total points, David Altiere had eight points, David Ashburn had five, Nick Martin finished with four points, Russell Adair with three.  Meanwhile, Jake Pappagallo and Gabe Platt played excellent defense blocking shots, finishing a combined four points.

For Campbell Memorial, it was Gabe Brunn finishing with 15 points with seven of those being inside the paint, Collin Michaels with 14 points, Skevos Kauros with 10 points, Zach Luciano with six, and Christian James with five points in the game.  Joey Zanni and Aziayh Flores off the bench combined for four points.

Next: Western Reserve (3-3) as of now will head to Ravenna to take on the South East Pirates (3-0) next Tuesday.  Campbell (0-6) will take on the Lowellville Rockets (3-2) next Tuesday.  Both games are set to tip off at 7pm.

RED KNIGHTS SLICE THROUGH CAMPBELL

CAMPBELL, Ohio – On the very first play from scrimmage, senior quarterback and homecoming king candidate, Christian Stores, connected with freshman Dylon Henderson for a 60-yard touchdown just 15 seconds into the game.

After driving over an hour north, Toronto was already trailing by a score. Red Knights head coach, Josh Franke, turned to his senior leaders to will them down the field. Four different players would carry the ball on Toronto’s first drive. With 4th and goal from the 5, coach Franke turned to senior, Garrett Dozier, for a big play but would be stuffed at the goal line by the Red Devil defense. Just one play later, Campbell running back, James Shaffer, would be taken down in his own endzone for a safety.

Trailing 7-2, Toronto took over at their own 40, but Campbell would force a three and out. The very first play of the Red Devil’s drive, Henderson would put the ball on the ground, allowing Toronto to take over in Campbell territory. Able to capitalize on their good field position, Toronto quarterback, Caleb Leasure, was able to connect with Bryson Anderson for an 18-yard score, giving Toronto their first lead of the night.

While the Red Knights never relinquished their lead after Leasure’s touchdown pass, Campbell would not go easily into the night. Following a 17-yard carry by Toronto’s Dozier to put the Red Knights ahead 14-7, Christian Stores and the Red Devils would take over with just 4 minutes remaining.

Battling through injury, Stores was able to lead his team down the field. Connecting with 4 different receivers on the drive, Stores was able to cap it with a 22-yard touchdown pass to James Shaffer, moving the score t0 13-14 at the half.

While the scoring would halt there for the Red Devils, Toronto would keep points on the board throughout the second half. Staring 4th and goal right in the face, Leasure was able to connect with wide receiver, Jojo Savage, in the front corner of the endzone for a 12-yard touchdown pass. Then in the 4th, senior fullback, Ryan Matyas, was able to punch one in from 4 yards out, putting the score where it would finish, 26-13.
