ANGRY BEAVERS ARE TOUGH TO HANDLE

In one of the final two contests on day two of The South Range Holiday Hoops Classic, The Alliance Aviators entertained The Painesville-Riverside Beavers. Alliance, with a day and some change between contests, was coming off a win against The Nordonia Knights the day prior. While across the way, The Beavers lost a heartbreaker, surrendering a fourth quarter lead to a surging Louisville Leopards squad on Wednesday.

With The Aviators looking to be the fourth team to go 2-0 at South Range, they would have to go battle an angry Painesville-Riverside team. Savana Laurenty looked like she never stepped off the court against The Louisville Leopards, picking up right where she left off in her success from the field. The Beavers jumped ahead quickly, led by Laurenty who had 17 first half points and complemented by Sam Volpe who pitched in an additional 13 through the first 16 minutes of play.

By the end of the first half, Riverside had sprinted ahead to a commanding 35 point advantage, holding a 47-12 lead over Alliance. Never taking their foot off the gas, the second half was the same story for The Beavers. Starting with a running clock and burning it down to triple zeros and getting redemption for the loss on Wednesday.

Emerging with the 70-37 victory, The Beavers improved their record to 7-3 through their first ten games of the campaign. While The Aviators dropped to 4-6 this season. Alliance will try to right the ship against a red hot conference opponent in The Salem Quakers, with that matchup slated for Wednesday, January 4th at The Cab! (Home of The Quakers). For The Beavers, they will also be in action on the first Wednesday of The New Year, where they will host conference foe, The Chardon Hilltoppers.

The Player of The Game honors went to Savan Laurenty, who scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in a double-double performance for Painesville-Riverside!

LEOPARDS SPOT ON IN COMEBACK WIN

CANFIELD OH- In continuing a very tough, independent schedule, The Louisville Leopards traveled to South Range High School to take part in The South Range Holiday Tournament. Slated to participate in both days of the event on Wednesday and Thursday, Louisville met another quality team in The Beavers from Painesville Riverside. Both teams came in with a winning record on Wednesday, but Riverside was winners of six straight after dropping their first two contests of the season. Louisville, after a loss to Canton McKinley, looked to get back on track after having their four game winning streak snapped.

The first quarter saw the two teams exchange leads off of scoring runs; however, a battle ensued for both teams trying to control the tempo of the game. The fight and effort knotted the ball game up 25-25 going into the half! With the two teams even after the first 16 minutes, they would look to make the adjustments necessary to emerge victorious.

Out of the third quarter, The Beavers Savana Laurenty came out with a fury! Scoring in bunches, she helped Painesville Riverside capture a seven point lead at the end of the third off the back of 29 total points on the night for Laurenty. Bella Bozic was also a sniper for The Beavers, with 19 points total and five shots finding the mark from distance, she helped spread the floor for Riverside.

However, the resilient Leopards never showed any quit despite trailing several times throughout the ballgame.  Taylor McCully started dropping in shots from the arc with more regularity in the fourth quarter and Taryn Miglich also found some distance shots. Courtney Barwick was the facilitator for Louisville, dishing out multiple buckets to a variety of players

The Player of The Game was Taylor McCully, not only for her scoring presence, but for rebounding ability as well as sealing the game with the final shot that put The Leopards up by five! Both teams will be in action again on Thursday, December 29th for the second day of The South Range Holiday Tournament!
