TIGERS SPOIL CAMPBELL’S HOMESTAND

STRUTHERS, OH- Newton Falls Tigers steamrolled Campbell with a commanding 11-0 victory on Wednesday.

Right out of the gate, Newton Falls set the tone in the first inning. Cameron Huff and Ethan Powell each cracked doubles, and a passed ball brought in the runs to quickly make it 3-0.

The Tigers continued to widen the gap in the second inning. Leland Vargo walked, Powell singled, and Trevor Ruscoe also drew a walk—all contributing to the scoring action.

The third inning was where Newton Falls really broke the game wide open, banging out five runs on four hits. Vargo laced a double to drive in a run, Huff took a base-loaded walk, Owen Gazda singled home a run, and Ruscoe smacked a two-run double to cap off the big inning.

On the mound, Georgie Phillips was untouchable for Newton Falls, throwing three shutout innings while fanning six and allowing just three hits. The starter for Campbell struggled, surrendering six runs over just over an inning of work.

Ruscoe not only delivered from the mound but also with the bat, leading the team with three RBIs. Powell was a menace at the plate, going 3-for-4, while Vargo added two hits of his own.

The Tigers showed great discipline at the plate, working seven walks with John Kendall and Huff each walking twice. The base paths were busy for Newton Falls, who stole seven bases during the game, with Vargo and Ruscoe each swiping multiple bags.

Defensively, Newton Falls was solid, turning a critical double play to keep Campbell at bay.

For Campbell, Sway Rodriguez managed to hit safely in all three at bats, but the effort was not enough to spark a comeback.

Next up, Newton Falls will face Liberty on Thursday, while Campbell sets its sights on a matchup against Chaney on Monday.
