HORN’S UP!

SEBRING, OH- To say the ride for this year’s senior class at Sebring has been wild is quite the understatement.  Some may say it’s comparable to riding a bull, you grab on tight and hold on as long as you can while seemingly every outlier tries to buck you from your saddle.

Much like the season of 6’3 Trojan two-way starter, Cody Horning.  The young man has very little to say, but when he does- projects success.

Horning has been such a bright spot in his career for the Purple and Gold that Coach Seidel and the staff have provided him significant runway to establish his leadership.   However, Cody isn’t the type of guy that will tell you what to do, and move on.  His work ethic is what helps him stand out on tape to many opposing coaches, and has his own coaches pointing to him as an example.

We caught up with the Senior Trojan wideout for a Sebring Player Profile: Horn’s Up.

RIDGE RAMS THEIR WAY PAST TROJANS

SEBRING, OH- One name, three words you’re going to want to remember: Jalen Royal-Eiland.  That’s because Friday night against Sebring the King of Ridge lit up the scoreboard like a Christmas Tree on the way to a 53-14 victory.

JRE took not one, but two kickoffs back to the house in the first quarter to give Mineral Ridge the early advantage- and one they wouldn’t return.  Mineral Ridge in addition to a pair of kickoff returns, was a pair of safety’s on defense that provided the confidence for the Rams against Sebring.

Shakir Perkins rushed for 71 yards on the night that included a 50-yard TD.  Mark Bunch passed for 171 yards on 9 completions and had a pair of scores.

For Sebring, Noah Fredrick had 99 yards on the ground, while senior Cody Horning scored from 5 yards out to cut into the score late.

RESERVE CONQUERS TROJANS

SEBRING OH- Western Reserve Volleyball made quick work of Sebring on Tuesday night with a three set sweep. (25-10 25-6-25-5).

The Devils had multiple attackers with solid night’s. Dani Vuletich led with 9 kills and 5 blocks. Alyvia Hughes added 8 kills, 8 digs, and 2 aces. Lisa Eichert had 7 kills, 8 digs, and 1 block. Callie Steed also played good defense getting 8 digs. Gianna Paris set the offense well and gathered 16 assists.

Western Reserve returns to action on Thursday as they travel to Mineral Ridge.

MCDONALD PASSES EARLY TEST WITH FLYING COLORS

SEBRING, OH- McDonald looked to score the second their cleats hit the grass on Thursday night, as they took care of Sebring to the tune of 40-6 to open the season.

Blue Devil standout, Dom Schadl stole the show with a three-touchdown performance and 120 yards on the ground, while throwing a touchdown as well.

Sebring had trouble getting the bus started on their offense, the Trojans only racked up 145 yards and turned over the ball on five occasions.

The Trojans now gear up for Southington, while McDonald turns their attention to Lowellville.

SEBRING FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH MATT SEIDEL (EP 2)

SEBRING, OH- It’s been over a month since the last time Coach Seidel sat down with YSN, and oh how things have changed.

New restrictions, new schedules, new implications, and yet the focus remains the same in Trojan Country: #ForTheHonor.

The Trojans have their minds locked in on changing the image of the program, and Coach Seidel is leading the charge.  Equipped with some new weapons that will add to the overall speed for the Purple and Gold, Sebring is guaranteed something that they’ve longed for as far as the program has existed: a trip to the playoffs.

What are some of the thoughts that will run through Coach Seidel’s mind prior to kickoff?  How do you shift focus from one team to another in less than two weeks?

Check in with YSN’s DJ Yokley, and Coach Matt Seidel as they discuss opening week in Sebring!

FRANK THE TANK

SEBRING, OH- On every team, there’s one player that gives it all for the greater good.  A player that will put his time in the spotlight on hold in order to help the team get stronger in other areas.  For the Sebring Trojans in 2020, that’s senior, Frankie Lozoya.

Lozoya is a converted offensive and defensive lineman who is versatile enough to be a slash player if the situation calls for it.  Originally a fullback and tight end, Coach Seidel asked Lozoya to move to the trenches to help bolster a line that needed size.  Quickly, Lozoya fell into the favor of his teammates who unanimously voted him as one of the team captains for the season.

We visited Frankie virtually and discussed his teammates, the Trojan Legacy, and his future plans.

RUN FOR FUN, BEARS PLOW PAST SEBRING 28-6

LEETONIA, OH- Leetononia Football Coach Paul Hulea wanted to set the tone on the 2019 football season from the first snap, and on Thursday night, his Bears did just that defeating Sebring 28-6.  The offensive and defensive front for Leetonia was outstanding all night.  The defense was in the Sebring backfield early and often, and despite his best efforts, Sebring Senior QB Zane Peterson was held in check most of the night.  Peterson ended the night with the only points of the night for the Trojans on a QB scramble that found paydirt.

Offensively for Leetonia, Junior- Marco Ferry had 236 yards rushing and 3 Touchdowns for Leetonia to lead the way to victory.  The highlight of the night was the 87-yard romp from Ferry to start the fourth quarter and seal the deal for the Bears.

Defensively,  Mike Miller gave the Trojans fits with 3 tackles for loss, while Jaedon Finley pulled in an interception.

Leetonia will travel to Mathews to take on the Mustangs in Week 2.  We will have you covered on the road with YSN.
