RED DEVILS TAKE CARE OF CLASSIC RIVAL

Campbell High School rekindled an old-school rivalry on the volleyball court and emerged victorious over Struthers in a thrilling four-set match. The final scores were 19-25, 25-16, 25-18, and 26-24, showcasing the intensity of the competition.

Both teams displayed their skills and determination throughout the match, making it an exciting contest for the fans. Campbell’s Angeliz Diaz and Elysia Rudolphi each contributed two aces, while the team’s offensive prowess was highlighted by Kendall Brunn’s 11 kills, Cyra Cross’s 10 kills, and Angeliz Diaz’s 7 kills.

MiLeena Williams led the blocking efforts with 6 blocks, followed by Kendall Brunn with 4 blocks and Carla Ramirez Ortiz with 3 blocks. Defensively, the team showcased their digging skills with Angeliz Diaz leading the way with 22 digs, closely followed by Cyra Cross with 20, Carla Ramirez Ortiz with 18, and Abigail Broz with 10.

Carla Ramirez Ortiz orchestrated the team’s plays effectively, providing 28 assists to her teammates, which played a crucial role in securing the victory for Campbell.

WILDCATS LET OUT FRUSTRATION ON HUBBARD

STRUTHERS OH- Struthers came into their Friday night matchup against Hubbard with a burning desire to erase the memory of last week’s tough loss. Their determination and resolve were on full display as they secured an emphatic 41-14 victory over their opponents.

The first quarter opened with a bang for Struthers as Devin Braham sprinted down the field for an electrifying 72-yard run, crossing the goal line at the 11:17 mark. This explosive play set the tone for the Wildcats, who took an early 7-0 lead.

Struthers continued their offensive assault in the opening quarter when Najier Howard bulldozed his way into the end zone with a 4-yard run at 5:35, extending their lead to 14-0.

Hubbard, refusing to be left behind, responded with determination. Garland Warren punched in a 2-yard run with just 1:01 remaining in the quarter, putting Hubbard on the scoreboard at 14-7.

However, Struthers wasted no time in regaining their dominance. In the closing moments of the first quarter, Jason Dukes broke free for an explosive 68-yard run, widening the gap to 20-7, although they missed the subsequent PAT.

The second quarter saw no let-up from Struthers. Dukes continued to shine, connecting with Kendis McLeod on a 52-yard touchdown pass at 11:06, pushing the lead to 27-7.

AC Carter joined the scoring frenzy with a 4-yard touchdown run for Struthers, even though they missed the PAT, extending their lead to 33-7.

The third quarter continued to be a showcase for Struthers’ offensive prowess. AC Carter found the end zone once more, this time with a 6-yard touchdown run, and the Wildcats converted the 2-point attempt, amassing a commanding 41-7 lead.

Hubbard rallied in the fourth quarter, with Alex Hackwelder executing a 1-yard touchdown run through a quarterback keeper, making it 41-14.

The Struthers Wildcats, determined to bounce back from adversity, delivered a remarkable performance that included explosive runs, pinpoint passes, and tenacious defense. Their 41-14 victory over Hubbard was a statement win, demonstrating their resilience and strength as a team.

BULLDOGS STILL COMFORTABLE IN FIRST PLACE

CORTLAND OH- Lakeview’s volleyball team continued their impressive undefeated streak in Northeast 8 (NE8) play with a dominant sweep of Struthers, underlining their skill and determination on the court. The final scores of 25-13, 25-20, and 25-19 reflected Lakeview’s ability to control the match and secure a convincing win.

Key players for Lakeview delivered standout performances, contributing significantly to their team’s success. Mallory Mailach led the way with an exceptional display of service points, recording 18, and contributing 7 aces. Her consistent serves created challenges for Struthers and set the tone for Lakeview’s performance.

Reagan Price emerged as a dominant force at the net, notching 19 kills, showcasing her scoring prowess. Molly Stuart added 11 kills, further bolstering Lakeview’s offensive capabilities. Mallory Mailach’s role as a playmaker was evident with 38 assists, emphasizing her ability to set up her teammates effectively.

In the blocking department, Reagan Price recorded 3 blocks, while Ali Parise contributed 1, demonstrating Lakeview’s presence at the net. Addy Allen was a standout defensively with 17 digs, ensuring that Struthers had difficulty finding openings on the court.

INDIANS HANG ON TO SECURE SWEEP OF STRUTHERS

GIRARD OH- In an intense conference matchup, Girard demonstrated their dominance on the volleyball court as they secured a sweeping victory over Struthers, despite the Wildcats putting up a spirited fight in the final set. The final scores of 25-9, 25-16, and 25-23 showcased Girard’s commanding performance and their ability to maintain their composure in a closely contested third set.

Girard’s offensive powerhouse was led by Bree Latell, who delivered a standout performance with an impressive 18 kills, providing a consistent source of scoring for her team. Nico Cochran also contributed significantly with 10 kills, reinforcing Girard’s attacking prowess. Bailey Walters orchestrated the team’s offense with precision, tallying an impressive 32 assists, highlighting her role as a key playmaker for the team.

The serving game was a crucial element of Girard’s success, with Alexis Pieton leading the way with 16 service points, providing a solid foundation for her team’s performance. Nico Cochran and Bree Latell each added 13 and 2 service points, respectively, while also contributing aces along with Alexis Pieton. WESTERN RESERVE CAGES THE WILDCATS

BERLIN CENTER OH- Monday night on Your Sports Network was a night that showcased the volleyball and soccer talent from around the area. With four matchups occurring in both sports, including the volleyball match out in Berlin Center between, the home team, The Western-Reserve Blue Devils and The Struthers Wildcats. Coming from different conferences, The Blue Devils out of The Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference (MVAC) and The Wildcats out of The Northeast 8 (NE8), the matchup served as a non-conference test before both teams resumed conference action on Tuesday.

Both teams were hungry for an opening set victory and showed it with their play to start! As the exchanging of points happened at a rapid rate and in a blink of an eye it was tied up 11-11 between the two teams in set one. However, The Blue Devils focused up and got efficient with their swings. Managing a 14-1 run to end the set, Western-Reserve would capture the opening set win 25-12. Taking the momentum that ended the set previous and carrying it into the next one, The Blue Devils were not messing around. Coming out with a fury and capitalizing on Struthers mistakes while doing work behind the service line saw Reserve capture a convincing 25-9 set two win and take a commanding 2-0 set lead.

The third set was the most competitive, with The Wildcats at one point grabbing a 12-7 lead with Mickey Taaffe leading the way behind the service line for Struthers. But once again, despite the battle of The Wildcats, The Blue Devils just had a little more in the tank. Managing the deficit and working themselves back in front as the third set came down to the wire. It would be Western-Reserve that would get the better of Struthers 25-21 in and fun and competitive concluding set three.

Angelina Cappabianca had an impressive statline for The Blue Devils, recording 10 kills, 7 blocks and an ace on the evening. Lisa Eichert led the way in kills (15) while also getting the double-double with digs (11), Eichert also pitched in elsewhere with 2 aces and a block. The two setters were equally as good on Monday as Haylee Fellows and Quincy Miller each had 14 assists to lead the team. While Ally Jones was the defensive anchor once again with her team-leading 18 digs on the night.

The straight-set sweep for Western Reserve (10-1) puts them back into conference action as they hit the road Tuesday, September 19th to do battle with The Waterloo Vikings (5-5). Struthers (5-8) will also be in conference action, as they look to bounce back against a very tough Girard (9-2) also on Tuesday.

RAIDERS CHARGE PAST WILDCATS

STRUTHERS, OH – The stage was set for an epic showdown under the Friday night lights as the South Range Raiders faced off against the Struthers Wildcats. The air was filled with anticipation, and fans from both sides filled the stands, eager to witness a thrilling contest.

South Range came out swinging, determined to set the tone. Blake Ewart, the Raiders’ star running back, wasted no time, breaking free for a spectacular 17-yard touchdown run. The extra point was successful, giving South Range an early 7-0 lead.

The Raiders continued their offensive assault. Tristan Toy, their agile quarterback, showcased his speed with a dazzling 37-yard keeper for a touchdown. The extra point was on target once again, extending South Range’s lead to 14-0.

However, the Wildcats were not about to roll over. AC Carter, Struthers’ dynamic playmaker, showed his explosiveness with a 27-yard touchdown run. Unfortunately for Struthers, the PAT was missed, leaving the score at 14-6.

Struthers quickly turned the tide in their favor when Jason Dukes exploded with a 42-yard touchdown run. The Wildcats converted a crucial two-point conversion, knotting the score at 14-14.

South Range answered back with another impressive drive. Blake Ewart displayed his determination with a gritty 9-yard touchdown run. Unfortunately, the Raiders couldn’t convert the extra point, but they held a 20-14 lead.

The Wildcats were relentless. Devin Braham powered his way into the end zone with a 1-yard touchdown run, narrowing the gap to 20-27 in favor of South Range.

As the game moved into the second half, South Range added to their lead with a well-executed field goal, putting them ahead 30-20.

Struthers refused to back down. AC Carter, the heart of the Wildcats’ offense, exploded for a 19-yard touchdown run. The successful PAT brought Struthers within three points, with the score at 30-27.

In a nail-biting turn of events, AC Carter struck again with a 9-yard touchdown run, giving Struthers a 33-30 lead. However, they couldn’t convert the PAT, leaving the door open for South Range.

With the game on the line and time running out, South Range engineered a heroic drive. Aidan Dominguez, displaying his determination and strength, pounded his way into the end zone with a 3-yard touchdown run. The extra point was good, and the Raiders regained the lead, now up 37-33.

As the final minutes of the game ticked away, Struthers fought valiantly to regain control, but the South Range Raiders’ defense held strong. The final whistle blew, and South Range emerged victorious in a hard-fought battle, winning 37-33.

The game had been a rollercoaster of emotions, filled with incredible plays and remarkable determination on both sides. The South Range Raiders and Struthers Wildcats had given their all, providing fans with a football spectacle they would remember for years to come.

RAIDERS RIDE THE WAVES

In a commanding display of skill and teamwork, the South Range Raiders emerged victorious against the Struthers Wildcats in a three-set sweep, winning with a dominant scoreline of 3-0. The Raiders showcased their prowess on the volleyball court, leaving their opponents struggling to keep up.

The Raiders set the tone for the match with a convincing victory in the first set, winning 25-18. Maddie Mook, a standout performer of the night, displayed her all-around abilities, contributing 7 kills and 4 aces.

 

South Range continued to assert their dominance in the second set, winning 25-19. Maddie Mook’s serves and kills continued to trouble the Wildcats, making her a pivotal player for the Raiders.

The Raiders sealed the match with another strong performance in the third set, winning comfortably with a score of 25-17. Olivia Meli’s impressive 9 kills and 3 blocks demonstrated her prowess at the net.

Maddie Mook was the standout athlete of the night, not only contributing offensively with 7 kills but also making her presence felt with 4 aces, showcasing her all-around skills.

Sarah Kuhns orchestrated the Raiders’ offense with precision, delivering 13 assists. Her 5 digs added to her invaluable contributions on both ends of the court.

Olivia Meli’s prowess at the net was evident with her 9 kills and 3 blocks, making her a key player in the Raiders’ victory.

Maddie Mook’s outstanding performance earned her the title of Athlete of the Game. Her contributions in multiple facets of the game played a pivotal role in the Raiders’ resounding victory.

The South Range Raiders’ emphatic 3-0 win over the Struthers Wildcats showcased their dominance on the volleyball court. With a well-rounded team effort and standout performances from players like Maddie Mook, they left no doubt about their superiority in this match.

STRUTHERS CONQUERS INDIANS IN ARROWHEAD

GIRARD OH- In a thrilling opening game of NE8 play, Struthers delivered an impressive road victory over Girard, securing a hard-fought 35-28 win. The game opened with a bang in the first quarter as Girard’s Domenico Simone caught a 17-yard passing touchdown from Tuff McConahy, followed by a successful extra point, putting Girard ahead 7-0. In the second quarter, Simone and McConahy struck again with a 19-yard passing TD, extending their lead to 14-0. Struthers fought back, with Anthony Carter scoring a 1-yard rushing touchdown, and their extra point was good, narrowing the gap to 14-7. Girard responded with a 49-yard passing TD from McConahy to Anthony Bengala, leading 21-7 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Struthers showed their resilience as Anthony Carter broke free for a 30-yard rushing TD, although the extra point was missed, making it 21-13. In the fourth quarter, Girard extended their lead with another TD pass from McConahy to Bengala, making it 28-14. Struthers, refusing to back down, clawed their way back into the game. Jason Dukes ran for a 10-yard TD, and a successful two-point conversion closed the gap to 28-21. The game’s climax came when Devin Braham scored a 2-yard rushing TD with just 23 seconds left, sealing the deal with a successful extra point, resulting in an impressive 35-28 victory for Struthers. This hard-fought battle on the road marked an exceptional start to NE8 play for Struthers.

GIRARD KEEPS ON ROLLING

STRUTHERS OH- Girard displayed dominance on the road, sweeping Struthers in a commanding victory with sets of 25-13, 25-14, and 25-17. The match was a showcase of Girard’s well-rounded skills and teamwork.

Bree Latell led the charge with an impressive 16 kills, while Bailey Walters added 10 kills to the team’s strong offensive performance. Walters showcased her versatility with a double-double, amassing 25 assists alongside her kills.

Defensively, Bailey Walters and Kyra Bell each contributed 5 digs, ensuring solid coverage on the court. Alexis Pieton’s service points totaled 11, while Bailey Walters added 9 service points to keep the pressure on Struthers. Bree Latell and Bailey Walters shone in the serving department with 4 and 6 aces respectively, adding to Girard’s point advantage.

At the net, Alexis Pieton recorded 3 blocks, while Bree Latell and Bailey Walters each contributed 2 blocks, further stifling Struthers’ offensive efforts.

WILDCATS PUT UP THEIR DUKES AGAINST BEAVER LOCAL

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH- In a football clash brimming with excitement and dramatic turns, the Struthers Wildcats squared off against the Beaver Local team in a game that would leave an indelible mark on both players and fans. The final score, 37-20 in favor of Struthers, reflected the relentless battles fought on the field, and some stellar play for the pair of signal callers.

The first quarter set the tone as Beaver Local’s Austin Cline displayed precision, connecting with Taylor Johnston for an 11-yard passing touchdown, giving his team an early 7-0 lead with 5 minutes and 30 seconds left. Struthers responded swiftly as Jason Dukes tore through the defense, scoring a 37-yard rushing touchdown and bringing the score to 7-6 with just 2 minutes left in the quarter. The game’s tempo escalated when Struthers’ Robert Carcelli intercepted a pass from Cline, preventing Beaver Local from extending their lead, and maintaining the score at 7-6 with 21 seconds remaining in the quarter.

The second quarter unfolded with a relentless back-and-forth battle. Struthers’ Na’Jier Howard exhibited finesse, connecting with Jason Dukes for a 25-yard screen pass touchdown, shifting the lead to Struthers at 14-7 with 9 minutes and 48 seconds left. A subsequent fumble by Beaver Local’s Brock Severs on the kickoff further challenged their momentum. Dukes continued to dazzle as he notched an 11-yard rushing touchdown, bolstering Struthers’ lead to 22-7 with 8 minutes and 53 seconds left. Despite a valiant effort, Beaver Local’s Austin Cline’s fourth-and-goal quarterback sneak failed, allowing Struthers to maintain their advantage at 22-7 with 4 minutes and 30 seconds left. However, Cline’s determination shone through as he connected with Taylor Johnston for a 6-yard touchdown pass, narrowing the gap to 22-14 with just 51 seconds left in the half.

As the third quarter commenced, Struthers continued to assert their dominance. Dukes demonstrated his versatility, executing a 1-yard quarterback sneak touchdown after a meticulous 7-minute drive, expanding Struthers’ lead to 30-14 with 4 minutes and 51 seconds remaining. Beaver Local, on the other hand, faced difficulties, as Cline’s incomplete pass on fourth down and 9 from Struthers’ 20-yard line led to a stalled drive, leaving the score at 30-14 with 42 seconds left.

The fourth quarter brought a whirlwind of action, with both teams striving to make their mark. Struthers’ Devin Braham carved a path on the field, accumulating 70 rushing yards during a 3-and-a-half-minute drive. However, a failed fourth-down attempt at the Beaver Local 5-yard line kept the score steady at 30-14 with 9 minutes and 16 seconds left. Beaver Local continued to fight as Cline orchestrated a 7-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Prideau, though the two-point conversion attempt fell short, leaving the score at 30-20 with 5 minutes and 47 seconds left. Struthers’ Braham solidified his team’s victory with a 5-yard rushing touchdown, sealing the final score at 37-20 with just 1 minute and 21 seconds remaining.

Struthers notch their first win of the season, in what promises to be an exciting season for the Wildcats, while Beaver Local will look to next week to try and pick up their first victory of the 2023 campaign.
