SEBRING OH- It’s a new era in Sebring for the boys basketball program. As the 2021-2022 season approaches, Lee Knepp takes the reigns as head coach. While it is true that the Trojans will have a lot of new faces this season, they’ll also have a group of extremely coachable athletes. It is a roster full of different skill sets, and after seeing what they have to offer in the summer, coach Knepp is confident they’ll be able to play multiple styles of basketball. Sebring begins their season on November 26th at Leetonia.

SEBRING OH- Another season has come and gone with the Springfield Tigers still dominating the MVAC. The Tigers completed a season sweep of their conference Friday night with a 49-0 rout of Sebring.
The Tigers had this one put away at the break. They jumped out to a 42-0 lead as they went to the locker room. Bo Snyder set the tone for the Tigers with a 20 yard scoop and score for a touchdown to put the Tigers on the board. Aaron Groner would also add a defensive score with an interception return.
Springfield finished the season at 7-0 in the conference and 9-1 overall. They will await their pairing in the OHSAA state playoffs. Stay tuned to YSN for the latest coverage of the postseason.

BERLIN CENTER OH- On senior night and homecoming night for Western Reserve, David Altiere set a record for most rushing yards in a game with 337 on 15 carries and 6 touchdowns!! The Blue Devils won 56-22.
Reserve started out fast first play of the game 63 yard touchdown by Altiere (6-0). Noah Fredrick responded with a 2 yard TD him self (6-6). After that Altiere scored on runs of 90, 39, and 25 (28-6).
Luke Henning threw a 55 yard pass to Jack Darney (36-6) before half. After halftime Noah Fredrick took the ball 65 yards to the house!! (36-14) Altiere responded with a TD of his own.
Henning threw his second to Burgy from 35 yards out. Altiere ran in his 6th from 21 out (56-14) Noah responded again with a 47 yard TD. (56-22)

BERLIN CENTER OH- Western Reserve clinched the MVAC Scarlett Teir championship on Tuesday night with a sweep of Sebring. (25-11 25-10 25-20)
Alyvia Hughes led the way with 13 kills, and 5 digs. Lisa Eichert was also a big contributor with 8 kills, and 7 digs. Angelina Cappabianca was right behind her with 7 kills, 7 digs, 7 aces.
Western Reserve will have a major test before tournament play begins. They finish their season on Thursday hosting undefeated Wellsville. Sebring will close the season on Thursday hosting Springfield.

MINERAL RIDGE, OH – Both Sebring and Mineral Ridge faced weeks where COVID cancelled their games, but Mineral Ridge came off the bye firing on all cylinders as they routed Sebring in a 40-6 victory on Veterans’ Night from E.Z. Whittaker Field.
The Rams got things going in the first quarter as Mark Bunch would pick up a pair of scores on two quarterback keepers from inside the 10 to give Mineral Ridge momentum and a 12-0 first quarter edge. A long 67-yard rushing touchdown from Bunch on 2nd & 43 late in the first half would make it three touchdowns on the night for the senior.
It was Nathan Rohrman, however, who would break out for the Rams as the 6’3’’ 230 pound running back/linebacker led the charge sandwiching Trojan players in the backfield and got two rushing touchdowns, one from 25 and 21. His power and prowess running the football kept the Sebring defense on their toes as he dodged tackles. His powerful play on both sides of the ball was able to get him our YSN Player of the Game.
Although senior Elijah Fredericks did not play on offense in the first half, there were times when the Trojans had some good bursts on the ground as Elijah’s twin brother Noah was able to help Sebring move the chains with his work ethic and athletic speed. Quarterback Cade Leasure also showed promise for Sebring as he threw some clean passes to his wide receivers, including a long 28-yard touchdown bomb to Melvin Cruz in the endzone to give the Trojans their only score of the night.
With the win, Mineral Ridge improves to 3-4 as they move up to 15th place in the 16-seed playoff standings of the Division 6, Region 21 state playoffs. They will be playing a game with major playoff implications next week as they will travel to Lowellville to take on a 6-2 Rockets team fighting for a top seed in Division 7, Region 25 and coming off a convincing 40-20 rout of McDonald. The Rams will be prepared to stop the likes of quarterback Vinny Ballone and wide receiver Brady Bunofsky. The Trojans will stay on the road next week as they travel to a tough Western Reserve team, despite the Devils coming up short in a 42-0 loss to perennial state powerhouse and MVAC Scarlet Tier leader in Springfield. Sebring will have three more games as they will play a make-up game with Leetonia on October 29th to make up for their COVID-cancellation.

MCDONALD OH- The Blue Devils had a couple of tough road games to start the week. They were able to return home on Thursday, and it felt good being home. The Blue Devils swept away Sebring to earn their 15th win. (25-16 25-8 25-18)
Maria Rasile, and Gianna Constantino both led the team in kills with 12 a piece. Megan Klockner secured another double double with 19 assists, and 10 digs. Sheryaliz Bonilla led the defense on the night with 27 digs.
Olivia Hawk led the Trojans with 6 kills on the night. Mallory Harshman finished the game with 6 assists, and 6 digs. Delaney Reggi had a match high 28 digs.
McDonald closes out the regular season Tuesday hosting Windham. Sebring will head to Jackson Milton on Monday.
BERLIN CENTER OH- Western Reserve continued their mission to a MVAC title on Thursday as they took care of business against Sebring. The Blue Devils swept Sebring to stay alone at the top of the league. (25-16 25-16 25-13)
Alyvia Hughes had thirteen kills, eleven digs and six aces, Angelina Cappabianca had seven kills, eight digs and ten service points and Grace Baird had twenty five assists and twelve service points for Reserve.
Delaney Reggi had six kills and twelve digs and Mallory Harshman had ten assists and eight service points for Sebring.
Western Reserve will continue their season on Monday traveling to Mooney. Sebring returns home on Tuesday to host Jackson Milton.
MCDONALD OH- McDonald was coming off an impressive win over Mineral Ridge this week, and kept their momentum going by conquering Sebring 41-26.
The Devils hot things going on their first possesion of the game as Logan Hawk found the endzone. However, Sebring would shock everyone as they heavy run style offense found success threw the air. Carter Holodnak caught a 16 yard pass to make it a 7-6 game. The Blue Devils scored on their next two possessions with touchdowns from the legs of Nathan Gilligan.
The Trojans would not surrender though, as Noah Frederick exploded for back to back 50 plus yard touchdown runs to turn the game to a 21-20 Blue Devil lead. McDonald would answer with a touchdown, force a turnover, and then find pay dirt again. With those two blows, the Blue Devils put the game away.
McDonald is now on a two game winning streak and will look to keep it alive in Week 6 as they travel to Western Reserve. Sebring will look to bounce back on Friday as they host Jackson Milton.

ATWATER OH- Rivalry games are supposed to come down to the wire, and the matchup between Sebring and Waterloo did not disappoint. Bobby Makin pushed across the goal line on 4th and goal to give Waterloo the winning score, making it 30-22.
Mason Duncan was a monster in the backfield for the Vikings, on 19 carries he gained 163 yards. Bobby Makin also put in a solid day running the ball 13 times gaining 82 yards and finding the endzone twice. Jayden Hakin also scored a pair of touchdowns.
Elijah Frederick put in a great effort despite the loss. He ran 217 yards on 12 touches and scored twice. Noah Frederick ran for 109 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown.
Waterloo is now 2-2 and will look to stay in the win column in Week 5 traveling to Western Reserve. Sebring hits the road as well as they will travel to McDonald on Friday.
