BADGER CANT BE STOPPED

KINSMAN,OHIO. The Lady Braves looked to continue their hot streak tonight as they took on the Windham Bombers. The Braves once again achieved highly on the defensive side with several steals. Katie Grexa once again led the Braves in scoring with 23 points. Hannah Betts and Bree Huscroft also had productive nights as Betts added 12 points and Huscroft added 9 more, which included three clutch three pointers.

Briah Daniel had a good night of play as she dropped 19 points for the Bombers but it was not enough as they fell to the Braves 61-28. The Braves win streak now extends to 13 in a row as they will be back in action tomorrow night at home when they take on the 12-4 Pymatuning Valley Lakers.

BRAVES GET A CLOSE FINISH THAT GOES THEIR WAY

KINSMAN, OHIO. The Badger Braves took on the fast paced, Windham Bombers tonight in what was a very back and forth game.

The Braves started off slow in the first quarter but finished the quarter strong with a 23-17 lead. The Braves kept pace with the Bombers and had a 37-34 lead at the half. The intensity continued in the second half as the Bombers had an answer for everything the Braves put up. Duncan Moy was the man of the night for the Braves as he dropped 34 points. Freshman, Preston Geracitano and Tyler McWilliams also had a productive night for the Braves as Geracitano scored 10 points and McWilliams hit a couple clutch three pointers in his first Varsity start for the Braves.

Jack and Chase Eye were the leading men for the Bombers as they combined for 32 points and Zach Turk dropped 16 points including four three pointers. It all came down to the final seconds of the game as Chase Eye missed the game winning shot at the buzzer and the Braves held on to win 66-64.

The Braves are now 13-3 and will go on the road this Friday night to take on the St. John Fighting Heralds.

MATISI HITS WIN NUMBER 500

MCDONALD OH- Thanksgiving weekend is special in the world, but it was even more special for the Matisi family on Wednesday as head basketball coach Tony Matisi, from starting out as coach at Ursuline (92-98), to being the all time winningest head coach in Lowellville history (98-2013) , to South Range (2013-2019) and now at McDonald gotten his 500th career victory, as the Lady Blue Devils had a come from behind victory against the Windham Bombers 57 to 37.  

 

The first half score was all Bombers as they ended the first quarter up 13 to 11 and then the second with a 25 to 20 lead.  Even though they were up by five, the Lady Blue Devils did find some momentum after being down by more than 10 at one point.  At the beginning of the third, the defense showed that it was missing in the first half.  They would only hold Windham to a total of 11 points in the last two quarters.  Four points by Freshman Sydnie Sweet, two points by Mariah Woods, three points by Briah Daniel in the fourth quarter and two by Brielle Jones.  McDonald meanwhile after not being able to find the basket much in the first half took off and the young team with four freshmen were finding their rhythm.  Alivia Morrison, the lone senior, led the pack with eight points in the second half after a struggling start early, only hitting one three in the first.  Sophomore Grace Bundy put up six points in the second half, and freshman Juliana Krumpak had 16 points total in the game, scoring six in the second half and played really well on defense.  With this victory, Matisi’s head coaching record is now 40-12 at McDonald, all time is 500-200 and had another milestone hit as it was his 700th all-time game.  

 

After the big victory, YSNs Ian O’Brien was able to catch up with coach Matisi, talking about this victory, but his coaching career from start to now and how special the journey was getting here.

RESERVE HAS NO RUST AFTER FIRST ROUND BYE

BERLIN CENTER OH- Western Reserve is the top seed in their district bracket. They elected to take a bye straight in to the sectional final. There was no rust from the time off as the Blue Devils swiftly swept Windham to punch a ticket to the district semifinal.  (25-10 25-13 25-7)

Alyvia Hughes had13 kills 14 digs and 7 service aces. Lisa Eichert had 11 kills 10 digs and 7 service aces. Raelyn Meyer had 17 assists and Angelina Cappabianca had 2 Blocks 8 kills  and 1 service ace.

The Devils record improves to 19-4 and they play Southern Local at 6:00 on Tuesday Oct 25 at Columbiana High school with a trip to the district championship on the line.

LISBON WITHSTANDS BOMBERS RAID

LISBON OH- Lisbon found ways to continue positive energy in 2022 with a season opening victory over Windham on Friday night. Ever aspect of the game was working for the Blue Devils as they ran away with a 40-25 win.

Lisbon’s offense was a machine on the day. They finished with 462 total yards of offense. 318 of those yards came on the ground, as Lisbon ran the ball 49 times. Haiden Colvin led that running attack by gaining 129 yards on 17 Carrie’s and a touchdown.  Trevor Siefke threw for 144 yards on a 9/13 day.  He threw one touchdown pass.  Austin Dailey scored three touchdowns.

A big highlight for Windham was a 82 yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Chase Eye.  Eye would also throw for a Bomber touchdown.

Lisbon moves on to Week 2 as they travel to Fairport Harbor. Windham will get ready for a Week 2 matchup with Rittman.

HANSHAW HITS TANKS

WINDHAM OH-  When you hear the name Wyatt Hanshaw, what do you think? Leader? Athletic? Swagger? Well us here at YSN think all that and more! One of the all around leaders in multiple sports at Windham High School, whether it is leading his team to the endzone on the football field or  hitting “tanks” over the wall on the baseball field, Hanshaw is explosive on a team of Bombers!  Leading his team in batting average, a mark that tips well over the .600 point this season. With a season high total of .641 through 11 games.

Hanshaw also brings a personality unlike any other to the table. Being a guy that can lighten the mood at a moment’s notice, all while staying one of the coolest guys in the room.  Being one of the guys that helped lead the turnaround of the pitching slumps to start the season, Wyatt did it with a bat in his hands and an unrelenting fire in his heart.  Helping lead The Bombers to a current 10-5 record, Hanshaw has helped Windham secure a top 10 seed in The Division 4 Tournament!

EYE ON THE PRIZE

WINDHAM OH-  Being a freshman can be a pretty intimidating time, especially when joining a varsity squad. But for Windham Bombers freshman Jack Eye, the adjustment has seemed seamless.  One of the top batters in The Bombers order, Eye at one point held a .562 batting average through 10 games played on the season. Having the knowledge and experience of his father, coach, and former minor leaguer Jake Eye in the home, should prove to be beneficial for Jack.

Replace that “e” with a “c” and see just how far this young man can go! Continuing to learn day by day, Jack has appreciated the grind to this point and will continue throughout his progression. Putting the work in the offseason and during the season, Eye is hoping to keep up this pace in the tournament. It will be both his and his brother Chase’s first experience in the baseball tournament together and it looks to be quite the challenge!  The Bombers took the #10 seed in the tournament, which lines them up with a road matchup against #7 Bristol on Thursday, May 19th.

CHASE IS ON THE BASE

WINDHAM OH-  The Windham Bombers baseball team are aptly named, because of the incredible offensive numbers they have put up this season.  With a team batting average well over .300, The Bombers have some guys that know how to do damage with a bat.  One of those guys is multiple sport athlete, Chase Eye. Much like the rest of his teammates, Chase is simply known as one of the athletes at Windham.
With having virtually the same teammates for all three sports seasons this year at Windham, not to mention countless years prior, it has formed quite to bond between The Bombers.

Constantly putting up big numbers in the box score and the actual score, Chase Eye currently holds the 3rd highest batting average on the ball club.  It is safe to say that Chase gets on base. A lot! Pair that with having a wealth of knowledge in Head Coach and father Jake Eye, and the ceiling is limitless for the junior superstar.
With a chance for a league title still up for grabs, Windham (10-5) looks to grab some regular season hardware ahead of the tournament.  The Bombers took the #10 seed in the tournament, which lines them up with a road matchup against #7 Bristol on Thursday, May 19th.

STANLEY LEADS THE WAY; WINDHAM BOUNCES BRISTOL

WINDHAM, OH- Landon Stanley drove in five on two hits to lead Windham past Bristol 12-5 on Friday. Stanley drove in runs on a double in the second and a single in the fifth.

Bristol scored three runs in the second inning, but the Bombers still managed to pull out the victory. The offensive onslaught by Bristol was led by Roach, Kohler, and Williams, all driving in runs in the inning.

Windham got things started in the first inning when Miki Jones singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.  Windham scored four runs in the fifth inning. Stanley and Jodan Smithberger each had RBIs in the big inning.

Jack Eye took the win for the Bombers. The righty lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out one. Chase Eye threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Kohler took the loss for Bristol. The pitcher went two innings, allowing five runs on six hits and striking out three.

Smithberger started the game for Windham. The pitcher allowed zero hits and three runs over one and one-third innings, striking out two

The Bombers tallied 11 hits on the day. Jones, Eye, and Stanley all had multiple hits. Stanley, Eye, and Jones each collected two hits to lead the way.

WINDHAM BATS BOMB CHALKER

WINDHAM, OH- The Windham Bombers ran off with the lead late in the game in a 20-5 victory over Chalker on Wednesday. The game was tied at five with the Bombers batting in the bottom of the fourth when Chase Eye singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs, and the flood gates opened.

Eye led Windham to victory by driving in five runs. Eye went 3-for-4 at the plate. Eye drove in runs on a double in the first, a single in the fourth, and a single in the fourth.

The Bombers got on the board in the first inning when Eye doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

Miki Jones was the winning pitcher for Windham. The hurler lasted four innings, allowing three hits and five runs while striking out six.

Kirkland took the loss for Chalker. The hurler surrendered 12 runs on seven hits over three and a third innings, striking out three.

Eye started the game for Windham. Eye went one inning, allowing zero runs on one hit.  The Windham offense collected 12 hits. Eye, Lucas Churchill, Jones, and Landon Stanley all collected multiple hits.. Eye led the onslaught with three hits in four at-bats.
