GARFIELD GETS IT DONE AGAINST LOCAL RIVAL

WINDHAM  OH-

A premiere basketball matchup occurred Friday night. As two of the most heated rivals squared off, with The Garrettsville Garfield G-Men and The Windham Bombers renewing their rivalry in front of a capacity crowd.

Student sections were loud and the teams were energized from the opening tip. Miki Jones was putting on a show for The Bombers in the first half. With 11 points and a trifecta of 3-point shots in the first half, he helped keep Windham in the game.

Bert Jones and Zack Turk battled hard with Anthony Demma and Brody Swigonski battled hard for rebounds all night, as every board had the crowd clinging to the edge of their seats

As the lead exchanged hands multiple times in the fourth quarter, with Windham bringing the defensive pressure, implementing the full-court press in the second half.

The key to breaking that press? For Garrettsville, the answer was Anthony Demma. The G-Men football star can get it done on the hardwood as well.

Putting up multiple shots from the blocks to the shoulder, Demma also hit an ice cold 3-pointer to put Garrettsville up late in the third.

Windham battled hard the whole way through; however, there was a lid on the bucket the last three minutes for The Bombers. Leading Garfield to the 68-63 victory over their rivals.

The loss will send Windham to a 1-1 start on the season, with their next game schedule for Thursday, December 9th at Fairport Harding.

The G-Men have won their first three games of the season in the last four days to go 3-0. They will take their much needed rest, as they hit the road to battle Bristol on Tuesday, December 7th.

Garrettsville and Windham introduced many to their rivalry, with the first game between these two on Your Sports Network bringing all the fireworks as promised.

As YSN continues to expand with the arrivals of new schools all the time. One thing is for sure, Portage County basketball is explosive and is full of G’s.

WINDHAM HEARTS BROKEN IN FINAL MINUTE

WINDHAM, OH- Old-school football was on display on Friday night, as Pymatuning Valley invaded the Windham Bombers on Senior Night.  The Lakers would showcase a wildcat-style offense to which not even the announcers knew where the ball was going, and who would receive the snap, en route to a 36-28 victory over Windham.

PVHS would control the scoreboard in every stanza except the second, but it was what happened in the final moments of the Fourth Quarter that would make the difference on the scoreboard.  The Lakers would set up a big pass downfield by keeping the ball between the tackles for the majority of the game.  Then, when it looked like they were waiting for a shot in overtime, threw the ball downfield complete and set up the game-winning plunge into the endzone with 11.1 seconds to put the Bombers behind the 8-ball, and eventually would suffer their second loss of the year.

Windham won the penalty contest with only 3 penalties called against the Lakers’ 8, but The Bombers also controlled the sticks- measuring out 20 first downs on the evening.

Wyatt Hanshaw was 4 out of 10 through the air for 93 yards and a score, while the trio of James Hood, Chase Eye, and Miki Jones controlled the ground game with 228 yards combined.  Hood led the way with 89 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown, while Jones had 67 yards and a pair of scores.

Lucas Churchill hauled in a score through the air on his only reception of 25 yards.

The Bombers (4-2) will look to get back on track on the road next Friday against Fairport Harbor.

BOMBERS LAY DOWN FIRE ON JACKSON MILTON

NORTH JACKSON OH- Windham had to postpone their week 2 game due to COVID, and the 1-0 Bombers were itching to get back on the field. Windham ended up coming away with a thriller 20-14 over Jackson Milton.

The first half was a defensive show with only six points scored in the half. Windham’s Chase Eye would score a touchdown off of a jet sweep to give Windham a 6-0 lead to end the first quarter. The second quarter would be scoreless as both defenses hold strong going into halftime 6-0.

To start the second half the third quarter would be scoreless as the Bombers would take the lead into the fourth quarter 6-0.
The fourth quarter would be action filled as Eythan Evans for the Blue Jays would score a rushing touchdown to tie the game 6-6. Sam Conn would get the PAT to take the lead 7-6. Bombers would answer back quickly as James Hood would score a touchdown to take the lead back 12-7. The two point conversion would be good as Bert Jones would get a reception to make the lead 14-7. The Blue Jays would drive down the field with a Gavin White touch pass that would score and make the score 14-14. With two minutes left in the fourth quarter, Windham would drive down the field with big plays and a rushing touchdown by Chase Eye to make the score 20-14 and the win for the Windham Bombers.
