WAYNEDALE HALTS THE RAIDERS RUN

By Ty Bartell

MASSILLON OH- The South Range Raiders baseball team competed in the Division III Regional Semi-Final on Thursday against the back-to-back defending State Champions, The Apple Creek Waynedale Golden Bears. The game was played at “Ducky” Schroeder Field, home of The Massillon-Washington Tigers and a familiar field in recent years for both The Raiders and The Golden Bears.

South Range struck first in the top of the first inning after Gaven Nagy walked and stole a base, setting up Tyson Tarajack for the RBI single. With The Raiders up 1-0, Tarajack came right back in the bottom of the first, stranding a runner at first and keeping the advantage for South Range.

Waynedale would knot the game back up in the bottom of the third after Collin McGlothin reached on an error, moved to third on a Tate Venables single and later scored off a Cameron Miller sacrifice fly. After three innings of play, the game was even 1-1.
The bottom of the fourth inning saw The Golden Bears take the lead. A walk and a hit batsman in the inning would set the table for Waynedale freshman Logan Troyer to deliver with an RBI single, making it 2-1 Golden Bears. However, a couple costly Raider errors would allow Waynedale to score two more, extending their lead to three runs at 4-1 after four innings.

On the mound, both The Raiders Tyson Tarajack and The Golden Bears Shane Coblentz were dealing! But after spotting Coblentz the three run advantage, it was fairly smooth sailing from there. As the Waynedale junior hurled the complete seven innings while striking out ten Raiders bats in the 4-1 Regional Semi-Final win. The win marks the third consecutive season that The Golden Bears (22-8) will be competing for a Regional Championship, a mark of incredible consistency for the program.
