TARAJACK BLOWS OUT THE CANDLES ON POLAND

CANFIELD, OH- To say Tyson Tarajack celebrated a birthday would be an understatement.  In a pitcher’s duel on Thursday, South Range pulled off a tight 2-0 win over Poland. Tarajack was the star on the mound for South Range, going the distance with a complete game and giving Poland their first loss of the 2024 campaign.

The scoreboard lit up in the bottom of the sixth when South Range finally broke through. Gaven Nagy’s sacrifice fly got them on the board, and Lincoln Cleevely daringly stole home to add another run.

Tarajack was in command throughout, surrendering just three hits and no runs over seven innings, and striking out seven. Meanwhile, Zuccaro shouldered the loss for Poland, allowing two runs across six innings on four hits, with five strikeouts to his credit.

Tarajack wasn’t just a force with his pitching; he also led South Range at the plate, going 2-for-3. Despite the low-scoring game, both teams were flawless in the field, with each turning a double play and Poland maintaining a clean sheet with no errors.

For Poland, Ryan Dilullo, Matt Paparrodis, and Chris Denney each managed a hit, but they couldn’t string enough together to challenge South Range’s lead.

Next up, South Range will hit the road to face St. Clairsville on Saturday, and Poland will look to rebound against Boardman.

SOUTH RANGE SAILS THEIR WAY TO A WIN

By Matt Maher

NILES, OH – The Red Dragons welcomed the South range Raiders to town for the first game of the season series between these two conference rivals. The Raiders put on a show Monday night, scoring 16 runs and blanking the Red Dragons by a final score of 16-0.

The Raiders started Julian Tranovich who threw in 3 innings and not only kept Niles off the board, but also kept them from earning a hit! Tranovich finished his impressive night with 7 Ks and only 2 walks. Luke Gehring came in for relief in the 4th allowing just 1 hit and striking out 2. Konnor Brogan finished off the night on the bump for the Raiders with 2 Ks and a groundout to end the game.

Landon Turner got the nod for Niles and had trouble with his control. After giving up 2 hits and a fielder’s choice to second, it would be Brennan Klasovsky who would bring in the first RBI and the second run of the game for South Range. Turner showed steady improvement moving forward with only 1 run allowed in the second and earning his first strikeout! The 3rd is where South Range fully took control, with 6 runs scored they made it hard for Niles to counter.

Turner would earn the first 2 outs of the 4th before being swapped out for Tyler Williams who allowed the next 4 runs to score. Williams finished the game for Niles, giving up 3 more runs before retiring the side. Turner finished with 3.2 IP, 11 ER, 8 Hits and 3 Ks while Williams finished with 1.1 IP, 5 ER, 2 Hits and 1 K.

The Red Dragons found themselves down early in another game but the young team showed improvements from past games, especially on the mound with some very nice pitches mixed in, as time goes on and these kids mature and continue to work on their craft this team could be a real headache for the Northeast 8 very soon while South Range continues to be a headache for their opponents now. South Range (8-4, 3-3) and Niles (2-7, 1-5) will both face each other next on April 23rd at 5pm at South range.

GIRARD CONTINUES THE RAIDERS WOES

By Matt Maher

GIRARD, OH – The battle for 3rd place in the Northeast 8 conference was in full swing on Thursday night with the Indians hosting the South Range Raiders to town. Both pitchers showed excellence and poise on the mound but it would be the Indians bats and Jaden Royals arm that would propel them past the Raiders 8-2 and allow Girard to tie South Range for 3rd place.

The Indians started Jared Royal who kept South Range off of the board until the 4th inning where Tyson Tarajack led things off with a well placed double into center field and then three batters later Luke Gehring would bring him home with a RBI infield single! Royal sat the Raiders down in order in the 5th but in the 6th Julian Tranovich would bat in Brennan Klasovsky off of a long single to center field. Back in the 3rd inning Gaven Nagy ripped a shot down the third base line that was miraculously caught by Cam Herrick with no time to react!

Royal pitched a complete game with only 2 earned runs, 5 hits and 7 Ks.

The Raiders started Logan Baxter who also pitched 3 shutout innings but it would be the 4th inning where the Indians would take control and never look back. It all started with a bloop single from Cam Herrick into shallow left field, Kaiden Clare would bat him in during the next at bat with a RBI Single to right. A throwing error from Will Gehrig would later let another run score and then 3 runs came in during Dom Phillips at bat with the first scoring off of a wild pitch and then Phillips bringing in 2 more with a long 2-run single to left center.

The Indians also went in order in the 5th but tacked on 3 more runs in the 6th thanks to a RBI groundout from Royal, RBI double from Phillips and a RBI single from Santino Barone.

Baxter, in 4 IP, gave up 5 runs off of 5 hits and issued 4 Ks along the way, Jake Shumate took over in the 5th giving up 3 runs off of 4 hits and sitting down the side in order in the 5th.

The Indians had everything moving in their huge win against South Range and the spoils of victory ended up being a share of 3rd place in the conference with these Raiders. South Range (7-4, 2-3) will continue their road trip when they visit Niles on April 22nd at 5PM while Girard (5-6, 2-3) hit the road to take on Poland on April 19th at 5PM.

HUBBARD HAS THE RAIDERS NUMBER

Tyler Wright struck out 10 batters as the righty led Hubbard past South Range 7-1 on Tuesday to complete the season sweep. Wright surrendered zero hits and zero runs over five innings while walking four.

Hubbard opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two walks. They first got on the board when Geno Leshnack drew a walk, scoring one run. The Eagles added one run in the second after Wright doubled. A single by Jonny Adamson extended the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning.

Konnor Brogan stepped on the hill first for South Range. The right-handed pitcher allowed five hits and four runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking five.

Wright led Hubbard with two hits in three at bats. Andrew Kali and Mathew Bobovnik each drove in two runs. Gabe Rusnak led with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying nine walks for the game.

Brennan Klasovski went 1-for-3 at the plate as they led the team with one run batted in. South Range had patience at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. The Raiders turned one double play in the game. They were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Jake Shumate made the most plays with six.

WILT’S 100TH STRIKEOUT HELPS RAIDERS SWEEP HUBBARD

HUBBARD OH-  They always say it’s hard to beat a team two days in a row. On Tuesday South Range was reminded of this all too well.  Although they dispatched Hubbard without a whimper on Monday, the Eagles pushed the Raiders to the brink in Tuesday’s rematch.  The Raiders had to use a three run 5th to give themselves enough room for a 4-0 win.

Hubbard gave the ball to Ashley Masluk who was making her first career varsity start.  The sophomore kept the Raiders off balanced for all 4 innings she pitched. She was able to even put the high powered South Range down in three pitches in the 2nd.  However, the Raiders are no stranger to close games.  In the 4th the Raiders finally broke through as Anna Aey led off with a double, and Gretchen Bartels knocked her home with a RBI single.  Even though Masluk was able get out of the rest of the inning with no damage, the Eagles made the decision to switch pitchers giving Masluk 4 innings of superb pitching in her first start.

The Raiders eyes got wide open with a new pitcher in the game.  Kaylee Schultz came in in relief and the Raiders jumped on her for three runs in the 5th.  Giada Pauline got herself a RBI single, and then Aey backed her up with her second double of the game to score another.  Jayli Wilt was able to help her own cause with a single to score Aey to give the Raiders a solid 4-0 lead.

Wilt was phenomenal yet again in the circle for South Range. She went 7 innings gave up just 1 hit, struck out 13 and walked 2.  Wilt’s performance let her eclipse 100 strikeouts on the season.

The Eagles struggled all day at the plate against Wilt, although they did have several hard hit balls that just weren’t in the right spot for a hit. Phoebe Rusnak was the only hitter in the lineup to earn a hit on the day.

South Range improves to 10-1 on the season and will have some time off before they travel to Niles on Monday.  Hubbard is now 3-4 as they’ll host Girard on Wednesday.

EAGLES SINK RANGE ON THE ROAD

CANFIELD, OH- Braydon Songer completely owned the mound, striking out 10 batters in Hubbard’s 3-0 shutout against South Rangeon Monday night.

Pitching was top-notch on both sides. Hubbard’s crew racked up a total of 11 strikeouts, and South Range’s pitchers managed to fan six.

The scoring action heated up in the eighth inning when the Eagles strung together three singles. Johnny Reyes sparked the rally with a key hit that brought a runner home.

On the mound for the Raiders, Tyson Tarajack had a solid start, holding Hubbard to just two hits and no runs across seven innings, and he struck out six.

At the plate, Gabe Rusnak, Reyes, and Geno Leshnack each knocked in a run to fuel Hubbard’s win.

For the Raiders, Will Gehring, Tyler Wardle, Andrew Brian, and Julian Tranovich each managed a hit. The team also turned a slick double play during the game.

Next up, Hubbard hosts South Range again on Tuesday to finish the season series.
